Beautiful work Ellz. Have you got anything for a 36kg Bull Terrier? Not at hand, but I could do it I would imagine, depending upon what you need. I've been showing my own Stafford on my leads, as well as walking in public, and he's no lightweight, nor is he particularly well trained at times.....much to my utter disgust and mortification!

I can't seem to work this link I really need to download some entry forms asap. Can anyone help me? Any reason you couldn't sign up for Show Manager and fill your entry forms in there? I use it and love it. Makes entering shows SOOOOOOO much quicker and easier. To be honest, if it weren't for that website, I probably wouldn't enter any shows because I can't be arsed filling in entry forms by hand!

Comon Things People Dont Realise About Your Breed
ellz replied to MonElite's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my friends is looking at getting a stafford pup soon so curious me jumpedon the website to of the breeder she is in contact wiwth to check out their dogs. I was surprised and a little horrified to see them advertising themselves as breeders of English Staffordshire Bull Terriers! I sent them an email correcting their mistake which I'm sure they won't appreciate! You are probably right there. I contacted somebody advertising a dog at stud on DOL and suggested that they remove the sentence they had on the dog's profile stating that he was clear of ALL inherited diseases by parentage. She sent me back a VERY lengthy email advising me that she had had the breed for FIVE years and her dog WAS clear of ALL hereditary diseases and that I had no real idea what I am talking about. Didn't take kindly to me pointing out that at the moment there are only HC and L2HgA which can be DNA tested for and which can clear a dog by inheritance but that there were still many other issues such as PHPV, PRA, Distichiasis and other isses which can only be cleared physically and therefore there is no guarantee that any offspring will be clear. As of the other night, she hasn't changed the listing either so apparently I DON'T know anything! -
How much vinegar to water ellz? We have just moved and this yard is alot smaller and with 5 dogs weeing (often multiple times in one spot - boys marking girls) there is tons of little patches of burnt grass. I have purchased some Dog Rocks but it said it may take 5 weeks to work and would love something else to try that is more cost effective and allows me to completely empty and refill water bowls daily. Very scientific amount....a good old fashioned "slosh"! No seriously, you'll need to add it and increase gradually or they won't drink it. I start out with a couple of capfuls to a normal household sized bucket. My lot get a couple of cups per bucket now, dogs and cats alike. I drink it too, but in warm/hot water with some honey. Haven't had a UTI in years and I suffered badly from them for years. There are other benefits too but you can google them....there are heaps, including anecdotal evidence that it improves fertility and conception rates. Can't say much about that for sure because I don't breed often, but my last Stafford litter was 9 puppies and all survived!

Apple Cider Vinegar in the drinking water....it definitely works. I had NO success with Dog Rocks whatsoever.

What's to say that her membership hasn't just lapsed and she is a bit slow in renewing it? Maybe she was going to send her membership renewal off with the puppy registrations? Maybe she hadn't paid the stud fee and was waiting for the paperwork to be signed? It doesn't HAVE to be sinister. Yes, it could well be that there is a problem, but there are also some logical explanations so just sit back, take a deep breath and start working through some of the advice given here. Being unfinancial isn't a crime. Heck, if somebody had rung the TCA about me up until a few weeks ago, they would have been told that *I* was unfinancial. All it took was a phone call and hey presto! financial again.

Agreed. Ultrasounds are a wonderful diagnostic tool and used at the right time are valuable. From about Day 28 onwards it is essentially useless to use ultrasound to count. You'd be far better off waiting until around day 52 when calcification should be starting and get a counting xray done. And no, it isn't harmful to bitch or puppies done at this stage and is very much a routine procedure.

Very hard to give a definitive answer without knowing the prefix. By that I mean, when I say it with one of my prefixes, it sounds ok, but when I say it with the other, it sounds terrible. Don't forget to pay attention to how it actually SOUNDS rolling off your tongue, not just how it looks on paper.
-
Just to confuse things more, you are aware that genetically, there is no such thing as solid black in Staffords aren't you?

I'm another who had dogs before I had kids. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you HAVE to. My children are now 18, almost 13 and almost 12. Would I do it again or recommend anybody else do it....probably not. Just because I, or somebody else can cope, isn't necessarily a good recommendation for yet another person. I would aim to plan it for when you are going to be most ready physically because it is tiring having young skinkids and even ONE baby furkid at the same time.

Sorry Parkeyre, each to their own and all that stuff...but honestly, that's a tad wanky IMO. After 24 years experience with registering show names, the LAST thing anybody wants to register their first ever show dog with is a name that could easily be proven wrong, and in some cases could be said to be somewhat of a jinx! :D Far safer to stick with a theme or even take something from the parents' names, especially for a newbie.
-
They asked us to choose a name. Hence my asking. We are keeping the kennel name. We just need to choose the next bit. :D You HAVE to keep the kennel name....otherwise known as the Kennel Prefix. I'd be asking what the parents' names are or if the breeder has a particular theme in mind. Remember that whatever you choose, it will become a permanent part of your dogs' registration and once registered, cannot be changed without some difficulty IF at all. You can choose a name up to 30 characters long, including spaces and breeders' kennel prefix. You aren't allowed to have common names, numerals or punctuation as part of the name.
-
You will probably find that an AKC certificate of registration, showing the New Zealand person and address as the registered owner, together with an AKC stamped 3 generation pedigree will be sufficient. That is all I have ever needed to re-register AKC registered dogs here in Australia (and I've done it 3 times now).

As it says in the title, Jack Russell Terrier breeders....so therefore, a Jack Russell Terrier.

The overriding reason why nobody in Staffords bothers breeding dilutes is because as a rule, the quality is ZILCH!! Why would anybody want to sacrifice many generations of good breeding to attempt to breed a half-passable specimen of the breed? Most responsible breeders wouldn't take the risk. The day that the standard is changed to allow a slate nose in blue dogs, or a brown nose in chocolate dogs, I'd consider acquiring a VERY good specimen to incorporate into my breeding program but ONLY if it were as good as any other dog that I might incorporate into my breeding program.....and therein lies the problem...I haven't yet seen a blue that would make me bother.

The enquirer is an old high school friend (only fairly recently found on Facebook so can't vouch for her background a lot). But...she currently has a desexed rough JRT bitch which she purchased from a Tasmanian breeder who is no longer breeding. By all accounts, the dog has an excellent life in a very rural setting but they would like company for her by way of a male puppy which would also be desexed. They too don't mind if the puppy came from interstate and they would more than likely be in a position to travel to meet the breeders, view the litter etc. PMs again please.
-
I was talking to Firestone at the Royal and her puppies are all spoken for.
-
Adding....it doesn't have to be a Tasmanian breeder either. As long as they have sound and sane dogs and are willing to work with a GSD-experienced Tassie pet home.
-
I have a very good friend down here in Tasmania who is looking for a German Shepherd puppy to replace her old dog who has passed on. He had a simply AMAZING life and I wish she wanted a Stafford because I'd place one with her in a heartbeat. If you know of any good breeders with healthy and sound dogs (mentally and physically) who would be interested in working with my friend, could you please PM me? This would be a great home with adult parents and an active teenage daughter.

:D Nah... I'm going to get them drunk instead :D *hic* rat...wha' rat? *hic*

Strangers Photographing Both You And Your Dog Whilst Out In Public
ellz replied to Tatelina's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not a photographer and I AM a very private person. But I also understand a little of how photography and copyright work and I think that is what makes the difference to my perspective. For example, if you ask Mr Ellz the same questions, he will answer them very differently because he is a VERY private AND very suspicious person by nature and sees the whole privacy issue very differently to me. -

I bet you one hundred dollars you wouldnt have taken the photo if you saw kids being in the moment with kites in Aus because someone might get creeped out. After this thread, I wouldnt either. Pretty sad, isnt it. So sad really. No such thing as innocence any more. Oh well....I'll have to go back to taking photos of crazy dogs doing weird things....and even crazier horses! They don't care if I share their images with the world. Or if they do....they haven't said so yet! :D -

OK here's a question (so many questions, so little time :D ) I've got a group shot where the entire focus is on one person. Why? Because I like her scarf. Nothing creepy about that, right, but is it OK that it's a crowd shot even though she's the only one in focus? Great thread, by the way. :D That would look good with a bit of selective colouring on the scarf.... Reminds me of the concept used in the movie Schindler's List with the little girl in the red coat. Awesome effect! :D -
They are certainly characters! :D
