What's to say that her membership hasn't just lapsed and she is a bit slow in renewing it? Maybe she was going to send her membership renewal off with the puppy registrations? Maybe she hadn't paid the stud fee and was waiting for the paperwork to be signed? It doesn't HAVE to be sinister. Yes, it could well be that there is a problem, but there are also some logical explanations so just sit back, take a deep breath and start working through some of the advice given here. Being unfinancial isn't a crime. Heck, if somebody had rung the TCA about me up until a few weeks ago, they would have been told that *I* was unfinancial. All it took was a phone call and hey presto! financial again.

Agreed. Ultrasounds are a wonderful diagnostic tool and used at the right time are valuable. From about Day 28 onwards it is essentially useless to use ultrasound to count. You'd be far better off waiting until around day 52 when calcification should be starting and get a counting xray done. And no, it isn't harmful to bitch or puppies done at this stage and is very much a routine procedure.

Very hard to give a definitive answer without knowing the prefix. By that I mean, when I say it with one of my prefixes, it sounds ok, but when I say it with the other, it sounds terrible. Don't forget to pay attention to how it actually SOUNDS rolling off your tongue, not just how it looks on paper.

Just to confuse things more, you are aware that genetically, there is no such thing as solid black in Staffords aren't you?

I'm another who had dogs before I had kids. It's amazing what you can accomplish when you HAVE to. My children are now 18, almost 13 and almost 12. Would I do it again or recommend anybody else do it....probably not. Just because I, or somebody else can cope, isn't necessarily a good recommendation for yet another person. I would aim to plan it for when you are going to be most ready physically because it is tiring having young skinkids and even ONE baby furkid at the same time.

Sorry Parkeyre, each to their own and all that stuff...but honestly, that's a tad wanky IMO. After 24 years experience with registering show names, the LAST thing anybody wants to register their first ever show dog with is a name that could easily be proven wrong, and in some cases could be said to be somewhat of a jinx! :D Far safer to stick with a theme or even take something from the parents' names, especially for a newbie.
-
They asked us to choose a name. Hence my asking. We are keeping the kennel name. We just need to choose the next bit. :D You HAVE to keep the kennel name....otherwise known as the Kennel Prefix. I'd be asking what the parents' names are or if the breeder has a particular theme in mind. Remember that whatever you choose, it will become a permanent part of your dogs' registration and once registered, cannot be changed without some difficulty IF at all. You can choose a name up to 30 characters long, including spaces and breeders' kennel prefix. You aren't allowed to have common names, numerals or punctuation as part of the name.

You will probably find that an AKC certificate of registration, showing the New Zealand person and address as the registered owner, together with an AKC stamped 3 generation pedigree will be sufficient. That is all I have ever needed to re-register AKC registered dogs here in Australia (and I've done it 3 times now).

As it says in the title, Jack Russell Terrier breeders....so therefore, a Jack Russell Terrier.

The overriding reason why nobody in Staffords bothers breeding dilutes is because as a rule, the quality is ZILCH!! Why would anybody want to sacrifice many generations of good breeding to attempt to breed a half-passable specimen of the breed? Most responsible breeders wouldn't take the risk. The day that the standard is changed to allow a slate nose in blue dogs, or a brown nose in chocolate dogs, I'd consider acquiring a VERY good specimen to incorporate into my breeding program but ONLY if it were as good as any other dog that I might incorporate into my breeding program.....and therein lies the problem...I haven't yet seen a blue that would make me bother.

The enquirer is an old high school friend (only fairly recently found on Facebook so can't vouch for her background a lot). But...she currently has a desexed rough JRT bitch which she purchased from a Tasmanian breeder who is no longer breeding. By all accounts, the dog has an excellent life in a very rural setting but they would like company for her by way of a male puppy which would also be desexed. They too don't mind if the puppy came from interstate and they would more than likely be in a position to travel to meet the breeders, view the litter etc. PMs again please.

I was talking to Firestone at the Royal and her puppies are all spoken for.
-
Adding....it doesn't have to be a Tasmanian breeder either. As long as they have sound and sane dogs and are willing to work with a GSD-experienced Tassie pet home.

I have a very good friend down here in Tasmania who is looking for a German Shepherd puppy to replace her old dog who has passed on. He had a simply AMAZING life and I wish she wanted a Stafford because I'd place one with her in a heartbeat. If you know of any good breeders with healthy and sound dogs (mentally and physically) who would be interested in working with my friend, could you please PM me? This would be a great home with adult parents and an active teenage daughter.

Strangers Photographing Both You And Your Dog Whilst Out In Public
ellz replied to Tatelina's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm not a photographer and I AM a very private person. But I also understand a little of how photography and copyright work and I think that is what makes the difference to my perspective. For example, if you ask Mr Ellz the same questions, he will answer them very differently because he is a VERY private AND very suspicious person by nature and sees the whole privacy issue very differently to me. -

I bet you one hundred dollars you wouldnt have taken the photo if you saw kids being in the moment with kites in Aus because someone might get creeped out. After this thread, I wouldnt either. Pretty sad, isnt it. So sad really. No such thing as innocence any more. Oh well....I'll have to go back to taking photos of crazy dogs doing weird things....and even crazier horses! They don't care if I share their images with the world. Or if they do....they haven't said so yet! :D -

OK here's a question (so many questions, so little time :D ) I've got a group shot where the entire focus is on one person. Why? Because I like her scarf. Nothing creepy about that, right, but is it OK that it's a crowd shot even though she's the only one in focus? Great thread, by the way. :D That would look good with a bit of selective colouring on the scarf.... Reminds me of the concept used in the movie Schindler's List with the little girl in the red coat. Awesome effect! :D -
They are certainly characters! :D

Ummmm.....NO

Ask them what colour their rat is. Or if they have a photo. If it WAS their rat, then be honest. You obviously feel badly and there was nothing you could have done to prevent it. I'm not a big believer in telling fibs about things like this. Honesty is the best policy. And yes, I know what you're going through. Some years ago now, two of my Staffords killed a neighbour's cat in our backyard. The cat used to always sit on the fence, teasing the dogs and this one afternoon, it forgot to leave the long, fluffy dangly bit (it's beautiful plumed tail) on the OUTSIDE of the fence. One of my pair took advantage of the window of opportunity, grabbed the tail and pulled and the poor cat didn't have a hope. I was just coming around the side of the house with a basket of washing in time to witness it (thank doG the kids weren't there) but wasn't quick enough to save it. I went and knocked on the neighbour's door and told them what had happened. Naturally they weren't very happy but they did admit that the cat hadn't helped itself much. Incident passed, neighbourly relations remained intact and I didn't have to remember a lie.

The ANKC for one......(although they don't specifically use the word "unethical" but given that the following appears in the Breeders' Code of Ethics then a reasonable assumption could be made IMO). 11. A member shall breed primarily for the purpose of improving the quality and / or working ability of the breed in accordance with the breed standard, and not specifically for the pet or commercial market.

Yes I found it. :D :D :D And just like the disqualified colours thread, you can google and find whatever you want, whether in context or not. You just need to copy and paste the right bits! -

It may be your image, but it is the skill of the photographer which is being sold....not you or your dog. snap ellz i just said the same thing :D So they get paid for pushing a button on a camera and I don't get paid for them using my image? By your logic I guess models don't get paid as it is what the photographer does that is important? Oranges and apples I'm afraid. A model is EMPLOYED to have photographs taken of them. The PHOTOGRAPHER is still paid to take the photographs. If the same photographer contacted you and specifically CONTRACTED you and your dog to MODEL, then yes, you'd be paid too but wouldn't necessarily get royalties. A professional photographer is contracted by a client to take photographs and is paid. The photographer doesn't then pay the client for the photos does he? If the client wants copies from the proofsheet, then THEY pay for copies, but they never get the negatives unless they are purchased and usually only then by special arrangement with the photographer. It can be very confusing but is actually relatively straight forward once you have had things explained to you properly and have a little bit of an undestanding about copyright law. -
Since when has breeding to the recognised breed standard been identical to "breeding for show"? :D Since when has it been considered "not the done thing" for ethical breeders and exhibitors to love their dogs? Many show dogs ARE pets most of the time. Most ethically bred registered pups will spend their entire lives as pets. That doesn't mean that their breeders wanted to take short cuts to make some money on the side. I really don't understand your logic asal. :D Why should "pet" buyers have to settle for shoddily bred dogs anyway? There are more show quality Ellz American Cocker or Stafford pets running around than there are pet quality Ellz American Cocker or Stafford show dogs I can assure you!! This is a show dog....hmmm.....he certainly THINKS he's a pet! There are probably way too many "real" pets who don't live as good a life as this show dog does!
