  1. It happens is my first response. What you should do depends upon a) the severity and b) the purpose for which your brother purchased the puppy. If it was purely as a pet/companion then provided the issue doesn't affect her health, ie eating, then I probably wouldn't do anything. As to whether a vet would pick this up. Some would, some wouldn't. For example, some vets do a cursory check of teeth, testicles, ears, eyes, heart and temperature with possibly a quick check of the mouth. If something is obviously wrong there might be a comment or a question as to whether this is a show or companion puppy with follow-up suggestions if necessary. For my part, to counteract this, I book an extra-long consult with the litter and have the vet complete a homemade health check questionnaire which I photocopy (keep myself) and put the original into the puppy folder so that the new owner can take it with them to the recommended visit with their own vet shortly after purchase (or for next needles whichever is first). And yes, I agree with the others, a mouth anomaly in a youngster doesn't mean it will stay that way. Development can do funny things to bites. I have had puppies with beautiful scissor bites which have gone undershot or overshot at 18 months of age and I've had puppies with inverted canines or overshot bites come back to beautiful scissor bites after teething has finished.
  2. Congrats to all Palmers and their canines!!
  3. It doesn't really matter whether they are "just chooks" or prize winning sheep, horses or cattle, the law is the law. I'm sorry that the farmer dealt with the situation so badly even though he was within his rights to dispose of the dogs. When I lived in a rural area I had an agreement with my neighbour....his animals on my land, fair game and likewise, my dogs on HIS land...he does what he has to do provided he lets me know that he has done it. And yes, whilst in an ideal world a "stockproof" fence COULD/SHOULD be a "dogproof" fence, most often, it isn't.
  4. Conversation overheard just now.... Him: "You're going to LOVE sleeping in your crate tonight!"" Dog: .....silence Him: "Don't look at me like that, I didn't shit on my bedroom floor last night....twice!"
  5. Exactly, because YOU believe it would be difficult. That's completely different to somebody else saying, "you should only have one breed because that is all you can do justice to"...... I get very tired of people who insist that they know best what another individual can cope with.
  6. Personally I think it is a very individual thing. Some people struggle to do the right thing by one breed, others are able to successfully manage multiple breeds. Each to their own.
  7. We saw a dog on one of the television shows getting a beer from the fridge for his master. Mr Ellz was rather scathing of Woger's abilities as a companion so I thought it might be cool to see what he actually did if I got a beer from the fridge and gave it to him and told him to "take it to Dad". All was well until he sunk his tooth into the can, the can hissed beer at him, he dropped it in a panic and then stood barking at it until we hoomans recovered from our laughing attack and picked it up. Now, he views ALL cans of beer with great suspicion and starts barking if you dare to put one near him..... FAIL!!!!
  8. WHAT? You mean it isn't absolutely normal to have full blown conversations with your dog? . . . . . . OOPS!!
  9. Try it in water and NOT with Dog Rocks...I had less success with it on food than I did in water, probably because during the day they do tend to drink a fair bit so they're actually getting more than on one or two meals per day overall.
  10. No, bathing in ACV wouldn't do a great deal at all. ACV works from the inside out by changing PH levels of the saliva and tears which is where bacteria accumulate to cause the staining. In an old dog, I'd be looking more at physical causes, as mentioned teeth but also eyes and ears before relying upon ACV. The best ACV to use is a pure ACV, I use the bulk ones from farm produce stores generally but if I cannot get that then my second choice is any that is ONLY apples. Many people don't read labels and aren't aware that many vinegars contain caramel flavouring, other additives and preservatives which effectively undo any good effects. My "scientific" amount is a good slosh per bucket but in most cases you will need to work up gradually because many animals won't drink water if anything has been added to it...best to start small and work up to as strong as you can get it before they turn their noses up and start queueing up at the toilet door so that they can drink out of the "pure" ceramic water bowl!
  11. Apple Cider Vinegar really does work. It is also good for other things....cleaning, arthritis, UTI's etc. Also, my Lowchen arrived with very stained facial furnishings around his mouth and eyes (this is caused by bacteria). After a couple of months on drinking water with ACV added, his face is barely stained and his tearstaining is minimal.
  12. Now for you Ms Cullen! I left you until last..... ;) Thank you again for handling my boy to his BOB and then onto his Best In Group! And as always, thank you for your faith in Woger and your friendship. If it weren't for you nagging me, I'd never bother entering shows, let alone actually go! :D
  13. Thanks Kajtek! I think he's pretty awesome too! :D
  14. Was lovely to catch up with you too Tassie! We will be back out again.....sooner or later ;)
  15. Thanks Jbea! I have no doubt we'll get them eventually...it's just that showing isn't a priority in my life these days. In fact I think I counted up a total of 15 shows in Roger's 2 and a bit years on earth and about 6 of those were in baby puppy!
  16. Thanks blitz3, I'm very proud of my boy! :D
  17. Thanks Allerzeit! :) The cheers and hugs from you and Max were much appreciated!! And congrats on Norty Nova's fringie too!
  18. Won't happen in Tasmania unless it is picked up by the RSPCA, or by one of the few councils with a microchip scanner. It SHOULD be routine but sadly isn't and probably won't become so for some time to come.
  19. Was the featherduster this afternoon, but still couldn't wipe the smile off my face after an absolute ROOSTER of a morning!! Our friend Jess Cullen piloted Woger (Ellz Forever Now) to a nice 14 point Best of Breed, which led into an even nicer 25 point Best Exhibit In Group and we finished off the day when I took over the lead and my boy took us to a lovely State Bred In Show! We're over halfway to his title now from 3 challenges and only a handful of shows!
  20. Or you just can't be bothered writing the whole name out... I'm not going to type out American staffordshire terrier every time I talk about my dogs. AmStaffy is much easier ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk You don't have to, that is the "Amstaff" :)
