I hear you BB. I'm still battling with my little purple girl too. She did rally today and made a concerted effort to latch on by herself for the first time in a couple of days and she's not making a horrific noise that could be heard right through the house any more so I'm hopeful that she is turning one corner or another. She has put on a couple of grams since yesterday too and Vanni is still looking after her between tube feeds so I can only hope that at worst, she continues as she is. I'm just so tired it isn't funny. Am feeling punch drunk most of the time now. Went to make a cuppa before and discovered the milk in the microwave and my cup in the fridge. Wouldn't be so bad except that I'd filled the kettle with milk as well! *sigh*

Thank you for that, Ellz. I've never seen it at the supermarkets but I admit I didn't think to specifically look in those two sections. I've only been able to source UMF 5+ at Safeway, but I'll make a point of checking out the other sections. I don't bother much with any UMF factors below 20+. Cheers! :D Erny There's one brand that do a 20+ that's sold in Coles. I can't remember the name of it, but I can visualise the jar. It's got a red and blue label.

Just to add something here. It IS possible to get High UMF factor AMH honey from the supermarket. Mostly you will find it either in the section with the medications or alternatively in the part where the Organic products are kept. It will clearly state on the labelling that it is "medicine" quality honey and will state the UMF factor on the front label in much the same way that sunscreens state their SPF factor.

Thanks lovey. I'm sooooooooooooooooooo tired!

Thanks for asking jerojath. Still touch and go I'm afraid. Her weight is fluctuating so much it is scary at the moment she's hovering around 222gr. Have stepped up the tubing. Vanni is still interested in her. So I'm doing a lot of praying. Her lumpkin of a sister on the other hand has gained 100gr since birth.

At the moment, I'd be VERY happy to have an extra few weeks up my sleeve. I really don't know if Koda will go to term if she's carrying a large litter...typical of Miss Grumpy Gutz to throw a spanner in the works!

3 in one week vs 3 in 23 years.....hmmmm......I'm happy with my statistics thanks.
-
I'd like to see your statistics on this. I've been breeding and exhibiting for 23 years and I can actually count on one hand the number of times I have encountered (or my dogs have contracted) canine cough from a dog show.

The "bunches" still need to be attended to every day or they will turn into felted matts and will be next to impossible to remove.

What a night! Last night little purple girl took a RAPID turn for the worse and I thought she was a goner. I spent most of the night with her either snuggled down my bra or tube feeding her. I'm SOOOOOOOOOO pleased I decided to order those tubes "just in case". She was gasping for breath and making the most horrid noises...it was heartbreaking. In the early hours, I gave her back to her mother and she was happy enough to move around to her mother and snuggle and Vanni isn't pushing her away so whilst they are still showing some kind of interest in each other, I'll keep persevering. But I honestly think her days are numbered. I was going to be doing dew claws this weekend. I think I'll do pink girl's (she's a HUGE big fat heifer) and leave little purple's where they are. It won't hurt her.

Koda has 8.5 teats!
-
And so far, they're all still alive. I'd be a nervous wreck if Koda DARED produce that many!
-
Thanks. I think I'll need all the good luck I can get. Was told earlier that a bitch from the same lines whelped ELEVEN puppies just last week!!!

Wrap it in either strips cut from a plastic shopping bag or a chux wipe and make it into little bundles and hold them in place with the hair bands.

I used to lightly spray my Afghan bitches coat with oil and then plait it and roll the plaits up and attach them with a cloth hair elastic. You just need to be sure that they don't get chewed and remove them, gently brush out and then replait daily. I do the same with my American Cocker boys around their tummy and piddle feathers when they're in full coat as well.

Actually Kiesha09, this is another reason you need to get your dog's bum scooting under control. I had a dog with a grass seed that entered just next to her vulva and channelled its evil little way up into her stomach. She opened up a hole the size of a 50 cent piece in the crease next to her vulva with her chewing. It was an awful mess cause simply because she was a low belly "squatter"....a bum scooter would also be fair game for a grass seed in an unmentionable area!

Aww maybe not ;)

Lucky your not close enough to pop on round like Bilbo_Baggins did last night ;) Awwww....wouldn't you like me to pop in for a visit one day?

I must confess that I am kind of worried!! There's only so far those stripes will stretch before SOMETHING gives!!! ;) Thank goodness SwaY is just an email away...I have a feeling I'll be needing more goodies!!!

Managed to get a better photo of Koda today @ 36 days....

No worries pers. The other thing too is when food IS offered, it should be a bland diet. Boiled chicken, white rice, even boiled potatoes. No dairy and no fats.
-
Actually, I'm with Erny on this one. One of the first questions a vet will ask is if the puppy is keeping down water or not. If water is withheld, you can't answer that important question. Dehydration is one of the biggest killers of puppies so hydration is essential. Withhold food for 24 hours by all means, but NEVER withhold water. (Aside from anything else, that is against the law.) Often too, if there is a bug present, even keeping down a small amount of water can help flush it from the system. And of course, it gives the poor animal SOMETHING to vomit, if it is still going to vomit. Better to vomit up a gutful of water than the lining of the stomach and even when vomiting water, some will still have been absorbed by the tissues.

Aww..so sorry Whipitgood. RIP little whippy baby. You fought hard and so did Whipitgood. My little girl is still hanging in there. She has put on weight and although she is still wheezy and rattley, it isn't all the time like it was before. So we have turned a corner with her.

What's The Best Way To Clean Floppy Dog Ears?
ellz replied to macka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I don't specifically know about Triocil, but I know Malaseb is great in ears. But definitely get down and dirty at the base of the ear. That's where the problems start. Loosening it allows it to come to the surface so that it can be wiped away and stops it from becoming a sodden, clumped mass in the base of the ear.
