Thanks Bilbo! I'm a bit of a retard - I was feeling the abdomen and couldn't feel anything. We had oxytocin - is that the same as syntocinon? We were using the oxy in the end with the guidance of our vet. Yep, that's right Anne - 8 all up. Three black boys, two black girls, one blue girl, one blue fawn girl and one fawn girl :-)

Thanks Anne :-). Well, I was a bit premature in my earlier post. Two further pups have come this afternoon - a fawn girl, and a blue fawn girl. The last one was a real effort and I was sure the pup would be dead, but she's hanging in there. I'm just exahusted. I hope to god it's over now and there are no more to come out.

Fingers crossed I think we're all done here. Maddie started huffing and puffing about 11pm last night, and delivered the first pup around 4am from memory (don't have the sheet in front of me). Last pup (we think!) came at 9.45am. We've got three girls and three boys, all black except for one blue girl. Maddie, OH and I are all exhausted. Our first whelping, and Maddie a maiden bitch. The screaming!! And not just from the dog LOL!! No, just kidding, no screaming from us but several anxious phone calls to my vet at 3am. A question for the experienced breeders - how do you know when they are finished? We had an ultrasound done and vet thought there were six to eight pups. Haven't seen any contractions since last pup was born, so am assuming that's it? Keeping a close eye on them all in any case.

What a nightmare Kaffy!! Thank god it all ended well for you and the pups. No wonder you feel sick... you must be exhausted!

Congratulations Kaffy! I'm nervous now - we're next on the list!!! Hopefully she'll go over the weekend. All still normal with her at the moment.

Oh, that's sad news Darkrai :-(. I've updated the number. Are the rest OK? RIP little pups.

I have usually done two weeks prior too, and went yesterday to my vet to get wormers for my preggie girl. The tablets she gave me (can't remember the name) said that in pregnant bitches, they are to be given seven days prior to whelping date. Perhaps it depends on the wormers?

Kanati, how is your whippet girl going? Just checked the list and she was due yesterday? Hope all is well.

Wow Kanati she looks HUGE! I think there might be a few pups in there. We should all have a guess - mine is TEN!!

Greyhound babies on their way to us. Vet thinks between 6 and 8 (her guess is 7) but she has been very wrong before (last time told me there were 5 and ended up being 10!!). I'm hoping for six - that would be just perfect :-). Kanati, I love whippet babies! Please make sure you post lots of photos.

Darkrai, are you game to let us know the breed yet so that I can update the list on the first page? :D

How are all the pregnant girls going? I've booked an ultrasound for Maddie for Friday 16th - she will be about 4 and a half weeks then.

Congratulations Bailey's Mum! Are you nervous? I'm really nervous - we've had four litters, but three were c-sections and one was whelped elsewhere, so the May litter will be the first that (hopefully!!) we've actually whelped. I've only sat in on a birth once before. Luckily my boss is also a vet and she will hopefully be able to come and sit with us when Maddie goes into labour. I'm not worried about the rearing part, just the actual labour. Oh - some useful things to have on hand that we've discovered from the other litters (one was ten, so that was a bit of a challenge!!) - bottle and teat, milk formula, whelping kit, scourban. Much easier to have them at home and not need them than need them, and have to rush out to track down :-). Anyone else have items to add to the list?
