Congratulations Bel! We've had a little set back with our blue brindle girl - Zafira stepped on her and broke her back leg :-(. Poor little thing. She's OK, vet decided not to splint it as it's in a good position, so fingers crossed it heals straight.

Congratulations Wilbur! I love Salukis :-). We've all had a pretty even split so far of boys v girls!
-
So cute Mollipop! Good luck today Bel - hope it all goes well.

I can only speak for my own puppies, but they have never been fussy and just eat what is put in front of them. I'm really sorry, I can't advise on weights as when they are that young, I just mix it in a bowl by sight - if they gobble it down in two seconds then there wasn't enough, and if they leave a lot then there was too much :-). Sorry, I should be a bit more scientific LOL! Try around 100gms and see how you go. Just tell the new owners they need to be fed some mince, or give them a copy of your diet, then they'll be fine :-). We do feed calcium too.

Oh, so sorry for the bad news SnoFyre :-(. Is there anything that you can do to stop a bitch absorbing her litter??

Good on you for taking on the pups! If they were intended for racing, it is unlikely they would have been fed straight dry food before going to you. I agree with Rebanne, add some beef - mush it up with some hot water and mix the kibble in too. You could also try soaking the kibble in some puppy milk to make it nicer for them :-).

yes, his palate was fine.

Hypoglycemia - Low Blood Sugar Levels In Newborn Puppies
gapvic replied to SwaY's topic in Breeders Community
My breed affected was a greyhound. It is very frightening - the puppy arched his neck back, opened his mouth, stuck his legs out and went absolutely rock hard all over. There appeared to be no heart beat. Sadly, mine didn't make it :-(. Thanks for pinning this topic SwaY, I'd never heard of it before. I really hope I never see it again. -
Photos of the babies, one day old

Thanks all. I think he just wasn't supposed to be. I probably spent longer than I should getting him going when he was born pretty much dead. Poor little dog. I counted up this morning - we don't breed a lot, we've had 36 puppies (six litters) in the last ten years, and this is the first pup I've lost. It had to happen one day, but it's pretty gut wrenching. Blue brindle girl all fine now and is one of the biggest :-). Thankfully, everyone else seems OK. I'll post some photos.... maybe that will cheer me up.

We've lost our little brindle boy . Am off to bury him in the rose garden with his fawn sister.
-
Thanks Jed. Did everything you suggested but he's gone :-(. I feel gutted... a horrible thing to watch a pup go through.
-
Well, he's moving around, not crying a lot like a hungry pup does, and latching on well now. I'm pretty sure SwaY that he's getting stuff down :-). His tummy isn't round and fat, but it also isn't sunken. I wonder if it was a bit of a sugar crash that caused the seizures? It was quite a few hours between when he was born and when he finally started to eat. Haven't seen another seizure yet. Because he's bright, and moving on the teats by himself, I haven't given him any more glucose but will closely monitor over night. Just then he even managed to hang on while one of his brothers tried to push him off. Think we'll have to supplement feed as there are just not enough teats to go around.

Zoe had ten babies, but one was born dead and we couldn't get her going (RIP fawn girl). We have: 1 blue brindle bitch 3 black dogs 2 brindle bitches 1 brindle dog 1 fawn bitch 1 fawn dog The brindle dog is struggling (see other thread on "puppy won't suck") but hanging in there.
-
It's quite odd, like he has died. He goes completely rock hard all over, can't feel a heart beat etc, then he comes good. Found another thread here that describes it exactly http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...65&hl=stiff pups We'll keep trying Rebanne... he's a dear little thing. Just watched him have a really good feed. What does the brandy do?
-
What causes it Sway? Same thing just happened to him again...
-
Sorry, forgot to add that mum doing well - eating and drinking :-)
-
Blue brindle girl doing OK but things not looking good for the little boy. He just had what appeared to be a seizure - threw his head back, limbs stretched out, and went completely rock hard all over. Thought he was dead, but he is still hanging in there. Should I pts?
-
Thanks Lolapalooza - way too scared to try that!
-
SoL, I made mine stronger than that - is it possible to OD on glucose?
-
What a champ, he's hanging in there!! Thanks so much for the glucose hint. I've given him a few drops, and he actually managed to have a little suck! In the mean time we've had another pup, so that's ten for nine living. Hope to god there are no more! Last one was pretty slow to get going and isn't sucking very well either, so fingers crossed she hangs in there too. She's the only blue brindle.
-
Just found I have some glucose - do I water it down and just syringe a small amount into him?
-
Surgical AI so not from a later mating. I've never tubed, and vet is 40mins away. Checked for cleft palate. Bitch currently treating them all the same but she has been in labour since 1am so she's not 100% with it. We've had nine so far - last one appeared dead and we couldn't get her going, so count is 8 including the one that won't suck. Hope there are no more to come.
-
thanks! He's still with us but I don't think for much longer. I can put him onto a teat and he'll close his mouth over it, but he does not curl his tongue or suck like the others :-(. I think he's like a dummy foal, missed too much oxygen and now has lost the suck reflex :-(
