I've a Nikon D80. I downloaded a trial version of Lightroom the other day (LOVE it :D ) but haven't edited these at all as I wanted you all to see them in their bad, natural state

You are far too kind Kirislin!! In my head, they are just crappy, boring dog photos ... your photos are all so much more creative. Any ideas why they are so much darker on the computer screen than on my camera? Took the tree one early this morning, in the fog, and had lighter shots on the camera but they seemed over-exposed. Will take me a while to work out how to use my camera I think. On that tree photo, can you see the stone wall and bench in the pic? I can't see them on my computer screen at all, but they are quite clear on the camera. Re the greyhound, those are his scared eyes - don't point that thing at me is what he's saying . His name is Zephyr and you're sure to see him in lots more photos.

Last one. This was dark on my camera, but no where near as dark as it is now

OK, here goes. For some reason the images are lighter on my camera screen than here on my computer?? . So sorry these are SO BAD . I haven't edited them at all, other than to make them a little smaller. [/img]

I'm sorry to ask this (I'm sure it has already been asked a billion times before ) but can someone tell me how to post the photos into the thread, rather than just uploading thumbnails? Ta!

Thank you all for your words of encouragement! I'll pop some of the "better" pics up here when I get to work. I'm finding it a bit tricky as I'm trying to not resort to the auto settings (trying to actually learn how to use my camera!) so that, combined with new lens, equals pretty terrible photos .
-
Well, I have my new lens and I've had a practice and it's safe to say that it might be a while before you see any photos here . I'm TERRIBLE at using it
-
Sadly, no, still no lens . It is here waiting for me, but I couldn't get it on Tuesday and then yesterday I had to go have a root canal . Will go collect it today... hopefully it will cheer me up a little as my mouth feels like sh**.
-
My new lens has arrived and is currently sitting at the post office waiting for me to collect it... I'm here at work without a car so can't go and it's driving me mental

Sadly we don't get to chose who does the DNA - these are racing greyhounds, and the DNA is done through Greyhounds Australasia. I asked for a litter discount but no go either - just the flat fee if $115 per pup. I'm not sure what laboratory they use, but they will only accept results from them.
-
May I join this challenge? I've decided it's time I learn't how to use my camera on settings other than the auto ones . Took these photos of a friends niece at the local football on Saturday...
-
I'll certainly be doing it again in the future. Just wish the DNA prices were cheaper - we had to pay $115 per puppy (and there were eight of them!)

Your photos are fabulous Kirislin! Everyone posting in this thread seems very talented
-
Now I just need to get some nice photo editing software....
-
Ah, OK . So I'll just stick with the AF-S and see how I go. CAN'T WAIT for it to arrive :DLOL
-
thanks Huga! Would I have been better with one over the other??
-
Bugger, now I'm confused. My camera is a Nikon D80 and I bought the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 50mm f1.4 - should I have got the Nikon AF, not the AF-S???
-
Wow, after just reading through all 72 pages of this thread I just had to go buy a new lens for my camera... the photos here are just brilliant! Have just ordered the f1.4 for my Nikkon D80 and now can't wait for it to arrive :D

Hi all, Thought I'd better update this thread! Of our eight puppies, we ended up with seven by Sire A and one by Sire B. We are quite pleased with this as there were four other whelpings due for Sire B for March and all missed, as it seems there were some issues with the semen (that have now been rectified). So although it would have been nice to have more pups by Sire B, we're happy to have the one :-). Larissa

Cryogenes are fantastic but have had difficulty dealing with Spain. They very kindly brought in some equine semen from Spain for me but there were no issues with me getting the import permit myself. I just did it all online :-). Both the canine and equine semen that they have brought in from Spain caused no end of troubles :-(.

Hi all, Chris Brown and the 7pm Project producers were up at GAP filming the story last week for airing tonight on the show. Our adoptions are pretty slow at present so we're keeping fingers and toes crossed that this will help move them along a bit :-)! Larissa

I worked in the Canine Blood Bank for 5 years. The greyhounds used donate once a month, and retire through GAP if they are suitable. Most private practices bleed greys that come in for euthanasia, so they have blood on hand when a dog needs it. The clinic I work in now does. Each greyhound is sedated before the procedure, one unit of whole blood is collected, then the dog is euthanased. In the whole time I've been a vet nurse, I've never seen a dog bled to the point of collapse (as mentioned in a previous post). Just one unit (450mls) is collected, then the dog is either euthanased or goes home with his owner. Hope that explains it a bit more. Feel free to ask more questions if you like. Sir WJ, you'll be very pleased to know that things have changed a bit out at W'bee :-). All the greyhounds now only stay in the colony for a limited time. Six weeks before their time is up, students are allocated a dog each and are required to put the dog through a sort of fostering program. The dog will be taught basic obedience, good social skills, how to walk up and down stairs etc. He will then come to GAP. Every single greyhound that is in the colony at W'bee now ends up at GAP :-).

If let off lead, greyhounds will generally come back, eventually :-). The problem is more that they may get themselves killed first (no road sense, run into trees, strong chase instinct etc). It is safest to just keep your greyhound on leash :-). Sorry to read you've lost two of your dogs this week - what a horrible time for you :-(
