  1. The greyhound gang here here have their paws crossed and all the humans have their fingers crossed for Ollie's swift recovery from this setback!
  2. I agree it can be hard to tell what's causing it. I did have a friend who had a greyhound bitch - every time she was pregnant she would only eat BBQ chicken - turned her nose up at absolutely everything else. They lived in a small town and this poor woman was buying so much BBQ chook that she worried the girl at the shop would think she was a terrible wife, only feeding her husband chook all the time - she didn't have the heart to mention it was all for the dog!
  3. If it is morning sickness you could try Rasberry Leaf tablets (from the health food store) - they often work well in these cases.
  4. If he will drink milk, maybe some of that pet milk would be OK for him. My dogsd always love it,and it doesn't have lactose so doesn't upset their tummies. Good luck with Ollie - he is certainly a tough fellow. Our thoughts are with you as always! Judi & Silver
  5. I'm not a big fan of canned food, but on the odd occasion when I do use it (convenience) I only buy Natures Gift - it even smells nice, unlike other canned products that smell awful. My dogs always like it, and it doesn't seem to affect their poos the way other canned ones do. Edited to correct my bad spelling!
  6. You might want to think about some blood tests at the vet. Some hormone imbalances can cause this sort of odor problem, as can certain vitamin and mineral imbalances. :D
  7. Really sorry to hear this Greytmate. I lost one this week too, so I truly do share your pain.
  8. The other things you can do to prevent bloat (maybe you already do these, not sure) is don't put the food bowl on the ground, but try to feed at a higher level, as this gives the food a straigher line to travel and reduces airt intake when eating. The other thing is breaking up the meals into more and smaller portions. I feed my greys half their total food in the morning and half at night so there is not so much food in the gut at any one time. Just some thoughts. Good luck and hope your dog makes a full recovery!
  9. Hi all! Unfortunately it was bad news; in fact the worst. The cause of Ernie's limp was bone cancer, and faced with the various options, I decided I couldn't watch him get sick and die, so I made the hardest decision and had him PTS this afternoon. Thanx to all of you for your help and support -at least I have the wonderful memories of the fun times we had together,as well as his three gorgeous babies that were born just over two weeks ago.
  10. Thanx Kelly and Malleerr! We had a consult with the surgeon this afternoon, and I felt well prepared because of the research I had done on the internet and the info I gained from this forum. The result is Ernie will have Xrays and hopefully will undergo TPLO in the morning. I say hopefully because the xrays need to rule out the dreaded "C" word - apparently sometimes a bone tumour can cause the rupture of the ligament. So, all being well he will get his op tomorrow, and home the day after that. I'm sure I will be back here heaps over the next few weeks with loads of questions!! Cross your paws for us! Cheers! PS Here's a pic of my boy!
  11. Hi All! I am new around here (in this forum anyway). I have a greyhound who has been diagnosed with CCL, and I must say reading this topic here has been extremely informative, not to mention entertaining. We are off to see the surgeon on Monday, but I feel confident from having read your posts that I will have the right questions to ask and I will understand what he tells me. I just wanted to say thanx to you all, and good luck with your gorgeous babies!
