  1. How long does Ruby have to stay in the boarding kennels? Maybe she could stay at the vets instead (some vets do boarding as well)...at least you know that they could be keeping a professional eye on her limp. Have they suggested an xray of the affected leg??? Hope everything goes well for the move and your stress eases off soon! Poor thing...I hate moving!!!
  2. Actually I think is was mainly canned food that was the subject of the recall, and only one type of dry catfood.
  3. For what it's worth I've always fed kibble and raw food together and never had a problem.
  4. Brock is looking amazing!!! He has grown so much and his coat...I need my sunnies to look at it!!! I don't have pups, but my adult girls get a tin of sardines or a tin of pink salmon split between the two of them twice per week. Between that and the Eagle Pack their coats are looking good too.
  5. As the others said, she will take a little while to "warm up" or relax. Everything is very new to her, the smells, the sights, the sounds, the routines. The trembling may be anxiety, but it may not be...I have had dogs that "chatter" their teeth, but when they are excited or smell something of interest. It will help her adjust if you get her into a routine...feed at the same time each day etc, because in the kennels they are used to set routines. She'll relax in no time. The teeth might need a clean at the vet...racing dogs are usually fed a fairly soft diet and not a lot of bones (upsets the digestions and they can't race with an upset belly). I give my girls turkey necks and that helps with keeping the teeth good. Where's the pictures?????
  6. Not all of them do! Silver only has six teeth (she's a "gummy mummy"! ;) ), & they are all front teeth...she has no molars to chew with...hence the question.
  7. ;) Apologies for the slight hijack, but, Molasseslass, what would you recommend for a dog that cannot eat any of the above types of bones? Just curious? Should I be giving supplemental calcium?
  8. No problem! Hope you get some - I have found it very effective for Silver when she hurt her back recently. I would also recommend accupuncture treatment - it has been very successful for Silver's arthritis combined with a similar supplement routine as you are using. Good luck. :D
  9. If there is a natural therapies vet near you try them - I got some from Silver's accupuncturist. :D
  10. My 11 year old greyhound girl has arthritis. You sound like you are on the right track with the jointguard & fish oil tablets but it will take about three to four weeks for the improvement to start to show...Silver has had good results from these. When you say herbal anti-inflammatories, do you mean Traumeel? Silver just started this on the weekend, and it is definitely helping her...I have also found accupuncture very good for relieving her pain & improving her appetite (she went off her food from the pain), and I give her a daily accupressure massage (as shown to me by the accupuncturist). I would definately recommend you look into accupuncture until the jointguard starts to take effect - I don't believe it is too late. Good luck! :p
  11. Really? My dogs get mainly raw meat, but Silver in particlular loves cooked (BBQ) chicken as well - it is her fave and she gets it for a treat on special occasions. So if I asked her, she would go for the BBQ chook every time! Different strokes for different folks dogs.
  12. Yeah, the turkey necks are not that easy to get - I'm just lucky because the only place I have found them is the place I get my dog food from anyway. Worth asking around some of the pet food places where you are though - never know your luck.
  13. I found chicken necks too small for my greyhounds (they usually just swallow them whole! ) so I switched to turkey necks. They love 'em; I wish I had discovered them a long time ago.
  14. Homebrand sardines - 45c a tin!!! My girls love 'em!
  15. Thanx! I will be in on Saturday to pick up a bag!
  16. I do soak them, but if they are too big she still has trouble with them...if they are small enough they slide down easy! As it turns out, I just received a sample from the lovely Eagle Pack people, and they are quite small pieces and Silver loves it!
  17. I have a weird request...could somebody please take a picture of a piece of the EP Holistic (don't care what flavour) with a 5c piece so I can figure out how bit the pieces are. I would like to try Silver on it, but she only has six teeth so even soaked in hot water she struggles if the pieces are too big. Does anyone know if the Senior Care is available in Australia?
  18. Yeah, that's the same stuff I've been using. It has definitely improved their coats, although my primary reason for giving it is for the joint health benefits.
  19. I just bought straight flaxseed oil from the health shop, but the Sprint Oil looks like a similar thing.
  20. Omega 3 & 6 - basically the same as the fish oil tabs - for joint and skin/coat benefits...I just like to be different. Seriously, given the speedy metabolism of the greyhounds, I was a little worried that the capsules might move through the system too quickly for them to get maximum benefit. No basis for that theory, I was just thinking about it one day and decided to switch to the oil.
  21. I feed sardines twice per week, plus flaxseed oil daily.
  22. This is interesting. I was never wormed as a child, and I have never taken any anti-worm medications as an adult. Never saw the need really. Don't think I have worms.
