Opinions / Advice In Regards To Heart Murmurs
New Age Outlaw replied to Stormy's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I think the foster in question is quite a lot shorter than a greyhound! http://forums.dogzonline.com.au/index.php?showtopic=103980 -
My girls get it for a treat occasionally and they just love it!! ;)

Depends on the problem. I find that having a vet who has experience with sight hounds is helpful. For any surgical stuff I tend to go for greyhound vets (due to the issues they can have with certain types of anaesthetics). For routine stuff (vacs etc) any good vet should be OK. Do your research, ask lots of questions, and if you are not confident of the answers try another vet (this is true for all breeds, not just greys!)

Joint Guard Or Sasha's Blend
New Age Outlaw replied to morphjk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yep, that pretty much sums it up. In my opinion anyway! -
Some trainers give their greys a spoonful of suet (beef fat) in the evening meal to dogs that have trouble keeping weight on, and especially those that start to loose weight when the cool weather comes. This is particlularly helpful when feeding a lot of roo, as roo is comparatively low in fat. You need to be careful not to overdo the fat though.

Joint Guard Or Sasha's Blend
New Age Outlaw replied to morphjk's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
From memory Sacha's Blend has glucosamine, as does Joint Guard, but JG also has chondroiten and MSM (according to the publicity it is the only dog product with MSM, an additive that is routinely used for horses with joint issues). Additionally, Sacha's has a strong smell (and I guess flavour) that some fussy dogs don't like & won't eat whereas JG is completely oderless. -
Yeah, I agree with what has been said here. My girl Cleo (second from the left in my sig) gets: Breaky: 1 cup Eagle Pack 200g mince (sometimes roo, beef, chicken lamb or a mixture of these) A splash of pet milk 1 scoop joint guard powder Dinner: 1 cup Eagle Pack turkey neck (around 250g) 1 teaspoon yoghurt 1 fish oil capsule (replaced twice per week with tinned fish...sardines, salmon, mackerel etc) She does really well on this...she was pretty fat when I got her (around 34 kgs!!!) but is down to a comfy 29-30kgs (she's not a tall dog). Every dog is different in their needs depending on their metabolism. You'll soon get a feel for what's right for yours. :D Now,where's the pictures???

Best Bones For Teeth Cleaning

I second the turkey necks - my girl Cleo's teeth have improved so much since she started on them. Can't help you with where to get them down there though. -
Australian Made Super Premium

No idea - never heard that, but honestly, it wouldn't stop me buying the product even so. I just like that it's ingredients are sourced within USA rather than from China, that the quality of the product overall is good, and that my dogs love it and have never looked better since starting on it. ;) -

Thanx everyone. The dog was overweight before the injury occurred. The owner has decided to cut out the kibble and just feed roo mince, chicken necks and vegetables and cut out treats. She is also going to look into swimming the dog. She asked me to thank you all for your suggestions. -

Yeah, I wondered about that too. Their vet has opted to treat the injury "conservatively" (his words)...if it was my dog I wouldn't be very satisfied with that and would be getting a second opinion about surgery Thanx!. -

I hadn't thought of swimming! Good idea - I will suggest it. The dog has a ligament rupture at the moment, but I will advise the owner to check with the vet about swimming as exercise. Thanx!! -
Diet Help Required
New Age Outlaw replied to New Age Outlaw's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanx. Problem with the vet advice that she got was pushing a certain brand of dry food (eg just feed this dry food and nothing else). She's not keen on that approach, and if anything wants to reduce the amount of dry food. I like the idea of the vegetables, and have suggested that to her. I also suggested that she replace the mince she has been feeding with a combination of roo meat and some chicken necks, but I wasn't sure how much in total per day she should feed of meat. -

Anyone who has corgis or similar sized dogs that can help?? Please?? -
A friend of mine has an adult corgi who needs to loose some weight, preferably quickly. I have made a number of recommendations about types of food she should be feeding, but wanted to know how much (as in weight) meat she should be getting per day. Currently her exercise is restricted due to a leg injury, so reduction of food and change in type of food is the only option for weight loss. Any suggestions would be welcomed. Thanx!

Barfers - What Mince Do You Feed?
New Age Outlaw replied to Sayreovi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I guess that would vary for different dogs depending on their metabolism. I just worked that out and if I fed my girls that little they would disappear!!! -
sounds a good idea Acupuncture may help in sit's like this ! Ditto the acupuncture - I have had terrific results with my old girl from acupuncture. Good luck.

There's a difference between selling a product retail and being a sales rep (as in, working for the company and selling the product to retailers). Maybe that's what Hesapandabear is referring to. -

I am told that Eagle Pack is completely unaffected by these problems due to all their ingredients being sourced within the USA (no ingredients imported from China etc). Someone told me that they ingredients are supplied by the Amish community farms, meaning the way they farm is more natural so the products are much higher in quality. -

Un freakin'believable! That Addicition stuff looks great, it is made here and in NZ, from products sourced (in part) here and in NZ, but you can't buy it here? Something very very wrong with that senario!!! -

Actually, I think that was the slogan for Mortein insect spray. -

That's why Eagle Pack is good. It is USA made from USA sourced ingredients...I was told recently all the ingredients are supplied by Amish farms, so the quality control is high.
