  1. I used Protexin for Cleo after her surgery (the antibiotics really upset her belly) and it really worked well, but it did take some time.
  2. Poor pup! RIP beautiful Ripley!!! So sorry about your loss Indigirl - I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel. My thoughts are with you at this difficult time.
  3. I give this occasionally and my dogs have always loved it. I gave some recently (trying to get Cleo to eat something...anything), and it made Ziggy fart uncontrollably (in the car...for an hour!!!!v ). None of my other dogs have ever done that, but any processed type food seems to have that effect on him...lesson learned!!!
  4. Not to mention the cost of writing off medications that have passed their use by date without being used - 100% loss to the vet. Especially in a small practice this would be a considerable cost each year.
  5. Salmon is an oily fish too (I think)...I sometimes give mine salmon for something different.
  6. Don't blame yourself...it's not fair that bunnies are so very fragile. He was a beautiful baby boy! RIP Thomas!!
  7. Sounds like damage to the ligaments that hold the toe in place...may not be completely disloctaed but getting there. Silver used to have a toe that "popped out" occasionally...very painful and she used to scream when I put it back in place. It's a pretty common racing injury...I have found that taping the affected foot if the dog is going to be running (eg at the park etc) provides support for the ligaments. They can take a really long time to heal completely.
  8. Thanx! I know of a couple of avian ones on the northside, but that's further away than the one she usually goes to.
  9. My sister has just moved to the Jimboomba area, and she is interested in recommendations for a good general vet practice somewhere around there. She has a dog and a couple of birds (cockatiels) so an avian specialist would be good too (although I told her that might be unlikely...there aren't that many of them around...she is happy to drive the birds back to their usual avian vet if necessary).
  10. My greyhounds eat the cherry tomatoes off the bush! They rarely leave any for me!
  11. Possibly a muscle tear - I've seen a few of them with racing greyhounds. One of mine was chasing a ball at thepark one day and managed to tear muscles in both back legs - he was so badly bruised that he looked he had sat in a purple ink pad! I iced it and got him on to bioflavenoid tablets (from the health food shop) as they are wonderful for healing bruising. But, if you are in any doubt at all, seek reassurance from a vet.
  12. So sorry to hear this. Run free Cheyanne.
  13. Ziggy's first op (the undescended one) only cost $150.
  14. Poor Ziggy had to have two desexing ops. He had one retained one with was removed at the beginning of his racing career, and then later when the racing gig didn't work out for him he had the "normal" one removed. Poor baby!
  15. It's from Canine Country in Queensland (Woodridge, just south of Brisbane). I think he supplies other produces and pet stores, but don't know which ones. Great product - get's the thumbs (or paws) up from my guys too - they have been on it for over a year now and they absolutely love it.
  16. Uh, good call! $200?? I paid less than that today for 2 x titres tests plus 1 C3 vacc. It's an easy drive anyway.
  17. When I was taking Silver to Esther for accupuncture she was working out of Indooroopilly Vets. I'm not going to test again 14 days after the vet because either way I wouldn't do a second vacc so soon after this one. The vet didn't suggest it. Both dogs will be titre tested again in 12 months.
  18. I didn't realise Esther Horton did titre testing. I just drove 50km to Animal Options to have my guys done - Acupet would have been closer! Oh well. I have to say I was thrilled with the service I received at Animal Options - they did the test while I waited to save me having to come back all that distance. The results are: Cleo Hepatitis 3, Parvo 4, Distemper 3 - so we decided to giver her a C3 Ziggy Hep 4, Parvo 5, Distemper 4 - so he didn't get a vacc. They were both very brave so got ice creams when they came home.
  19. Thanx to everyone for your kind thoughts - it seemed so weird her not being there this morning to greet me. Harminee, that is gorgeous - thanx so much!
  20. I confess that when I switched to an all raw diet with my dogs I was a bit worried about their weight going down, but several weeks in they are stable and they are loving it. Fortunately mine are not fussy - in fact I often say they would eat dirt if you put it in a bowl and told them it was food - they have eaten everything I have put in front of them so far. They particularly love the chook frames! A big thanks to DOL generally and especially many of the contributors to this thread for the info and guidance that gave me the confidence to make the change.
  21. My little western rosella Ruby went to the bridge unexpectedly and suddenly this morning. She looked a little off this morning but I thought she might have been a little bit cool; I cut up some apple and beans for her (her favourite breakfast) and when I turned around she was on the floor of her cage and had passed. :D Goodbye Ruby - We'll miss your cheerful whistles and calls to your wild boyfriend. Say hello from us to your friend Cocky and his best mate Stanley who are waiting in a tree for you on the other side. Fly free my little red bird.
  22. So sorry to hear about the loss of Princess - gone too young. RIP! :D
  23. I had a greyhound who was a chronic wagger. We used to use Savlon antiseptic powder on the affected area, then lots of padded dressing material secured by that really strong sticky plaster stuff (can't remember the name of it but I got it at the chemist). The dressing provided protection to the healing area and I found the antiseptic powder helped it dry and heal more quickly. Dressing was changed daily - it ended up being expensive and time consuming to do, but effective. Good luck with it.
