  1. I use Sentinel Spectrum for intestinal worms & heartworm. It is administered monthly.
  2. Poorly worded on my part - I meant an extra dose. My dogs get Sentinel Spectrum which has tape wormer in it, but if they have consumed a lizard i will give them a dose of plain tape wormer on the day they ate it, on top of their usual monthly all wormer.
  3. When mine have eaten a possum or a lizard I give them a double dose of tapeworm tablets, just in case of any nasties.
  4. I think that dandruff can have numerous different causes, and you need to get the cause right before you can treat the symptom. Food is certainly a big one, and it can take some time and experimentation to see what works for your pup. External environmental irritants can also afftect (plants, grass, seeds etc) My old girl Cleo has recently had a problem with dandruff on her back (not pretty as she is black so currently looks like a lamington! ) ; something that had never been an issue before with her. No diet changes, no changes in environment. The weird thing was, it only started happening after she had some major surgery last year. I took her to the accupuncturist yesterday, and she mentioned that dandruff can also be caused by lack of circulation - I wasn't aware of that. She has recommended some daily massage in the affected area (which also has some muscle soreness) and extra fish oil capsules (up to 6 per day). Interesting stuff.
  5. You could also try some Traumeel which is a natural (homeopathic) anti-inflammatory.
  6. There are some products, such as Recharge, which are very good for re-hydration. However, I would wait and see what the cause is before doing this, especially if she is drinking normally cause there shouldn't be any reason for her to be dehydrated in the first place. It could be many things, such as a slight infection, as mentioned, but it can also happen with stress. Hopefully the vet should be able to figure it out for you. Good luck with her!
  7. Personally I would be pushing the vet for some action, or else seeing a different vet for another opinion - after having these symptoms for so long I don't think I would settle for any more "wait and see" stuff. Hope you get is sorted out soon!
  8. I didn't realise they shut that store. Euk has a lot of fillers (corn) in it. Maybe if you need to go to a grain based dry food you could try Eagle Pack Holistic? It doesn't have corn. When I used to feed dry food I found that the EP Holistic made the poos much smaller, meaning they were actually digesting & using more of the food they were ingesting.
  9. Yeah, I always heard that too - not sure if it cause of the salt content or because of something else in the curing process.
  10. Where I worked they used to always give an injection of Metacam after spays - gives pain relief for about 24 hours.
  11. When I worked for a vet I saw a dressing put on the spay wound on a couple of occasions when the wound was a bit oozy. Some dogs ooze more than others.
  12. I second that - have been using their meat for quite a while now and it is great...the dogs have never looked better!
  13. Yep, mine had some the other nite. It was in my Chrisco hamper, and neither of us eat it, so the dogs got it with their dinner...no ill effects, and no complaints either!
  14. Thanx Chezzyr - I will look for some of that. It is a dedicated slide & negative scanner (got it from Deals Direct website).
  15. I recently bought one of those special scanners that scans slides and negatives. I have a whole pile ofreally old slides that I found when we cleaned out my grandfather's place, and I want to scan them so I can give them to other relatives. These slides are pretty dusty & dirty from being in storage for so long...what is the best thing to use to clean them up without damaging them? Also, I have absolutely no experience of photoshop (or similar programs) - what are they actually capable of doing in terms of restoring old photos once I have scanned then. Can the colours be brightened etc? In the example attached, the chinese table in the corner should actually be quite red looking, not as brown as it looks in the picture.
  16. There are a few different vitamin e products around - I use a Troy product "NaturalE"...I think for my dogs the dose is a quarter of a scoop per day.
  17. You could add some vitamin E powder to help absorption of the omega3 from the fish oil. Not sure what else.
  18. I've also heard that for areas of dirt digging garden lime into it can stop the fleas breeding there...haven't tried it myself so not sure how effective it is.
  19. That is really sad Caz! The vet where I work normally says payment on the day. However, in serious cases where the animal needs immediate treatment we can contact the boss for authorisation for a payment plan where the client signs a repayment agreement (and we don't ask for collateral) - the boss has told us that the most important thing is that the animal gets treated. There has to be a balance between the vet not making a loss (after all, they are out of pocket for the drugs and consumables etc) and the animal not getting treatment. Usually it can be worked out to suit everyone. Sending good thoughts for Jeddica's little pups - hope they can turn the corner and recover.
  20. I assume that would also work with Sentinel Spectrum (given that it is the same as Interceptor but with the addition of lufenuron).
  21. Thanx Spotted Devil - you explained that better than I could!
  22. I think what they mean is that other heartworm products will cause bad reactions if used in animals already infected with the worms. Revolution is a different chemical and doesn't create that reaction - if used in an animal that already has heartworm Revolution will actually begin to kill the worms (you probably still need other treatment though). The idea is that there is around a 6 month window between infection and getting a positive test result. Therefore, if there is any doubt about the dog's potential exposure to heartworm, Revolution is at least safe to use if the dog does prove to be infected. I hope that makes at least some sense. ETA I personally would still do the heartworm test after 6 months. That way if it is negative you can change to other methods of prevention if you want to.
