Another Lump Question - With Pictures
New Age Outlaw replied to New Age Outlaw's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Well, preliminary results are in, and they are inconclusive. They are showing as possibly a melanoma or a mast cell tumour (neither a great option ). They are conducting further tests on the sample (stains etc) to try and pinpoint which it is. The margins were really good, except for the depth, which was OK but not great...being a greyhound she didn't have a lot of depth to the meat over her ribcage. So, we have to wait a few more days to see if they can give us any more info - hopefully the results may be in by the time she gets her stitches out on Saturday. On the plus side she is back to her normal self! -
Poor little Snot! Glad to hear he is OK now - fingers crossed that he has no more problems. Love the pictures - he's such a cutie!

Well, the patient is home, and feeling sick and sore (no surprises there). She had a lot done all at once; desexed, teeth cleaned and removal of the suspect lump, with very generous margins. Being young and fit, she sailed through the op no worries (thanx to the wonderful Dr Tim), but I suspect the meds she has had have made her feel a bit off colour, because she has not been particularly interested in food since she got home...at least she wasn't until I went out and got her some BBQ chook...that is apparently acceptable! We should get the path results back on Monday - fingers crossed it is nothing sinister! Here's a couple of pics of the poor patient, and a close up of the wound. -
Undecended Testicles In A Pup

I'm sure this is not common, but Ziggy didn't have any until one decided to descend at the ripe old age of 12 months! But then, he is a bit "special"! -
Whats The Most 'out There' Thing You Have Done
New Age Outlaw replied to lilypily's topic in General Dog Discussion
Glad to see I'm not the only one! Of course, some of these things are as much to make my life easier as it is for them, but the dogs do get the main benefit! I bought a $50,000+ Mercedes for my dogs and for me of course, but the particular model etc was chosen because the back seats folded completely flat, and also when folded down the "floor" is lower than in other cars that I looked at (and I looked at heaps of different brands/models). Also my OH concreted and tiled the under the house area that the dogs use so they will be more comfortable (also easier to keep clean). There is a specific dog food preparation kitchen under the house and they have their own fridge and freezer for their food, also their own microwave. Oh yeah, and I bought them their own washing machine for their blankies/coats etc because I didn't want to have dog hair in my people clothes washing machine! -
I use Sentinel, and I confess I don't even know if there were stickers in the packets...I never used them. I just give them on the 1st of each month, so when the month starts I know it's time to give them. Haven't tried the new chews yet (still got a couple of months worth of the old tablet ones left), but my dogs love the tablets...they chew them up like treats. I sure hope they like the new chews just as much.

Another Lump Question - With Pictures
New Age Outlaw replied to New Age Outlaw's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanx for the replies. In the end I decided I wanted to get it looked at, so we saw the vet this afternoon. He did a needle aspirate and came to the same conclusion as you both - a round cell tumour that could be either histiocytoma (more likely) or mast cell tumour (unlikely but not impossible). So, seeing as how I wanted to get her desexed & her teeth cleaned soon anyway (she will be 4 years old in a couple of weeks), I have brought this forward to next Wednesday, when they will also remove the lump (with generous margins just in case) and send it for pathology. -
Another Lump Question - With Pictures
New Age Outlaw posted a topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
OK, so I am having post breakky snuggles with Candy this morning (she is always the first to finish her food) when I felt something on her side. Further investigation revealed a small, pink, hairless lump on her side, around the rib cage. It seems to have come up very quickly, and doesn't seem to be painful. It isn't a bite; looks sort of like a wart. Obviously, a vet needs to see it. We already have a chiro appointment booked with the vet, but it is not for another 11 days. The question is, should she see a vet sooner (like today), or can it wait for the 11 days until she sees the vet at her scheduled appointment? My feeling is leaning towards trying to see a vet today, but curious to know what you, more experienced people, think. A couple pf pics of the lump in question... -

Great book! Did you see the Italian Greyhound? It looks like it had a chihuahua head transplanted on! -
Thank you! I'm glad somebody said it! (If you hadn't I probably would have, though maybe not quite so eloquently! )

Can thoroughly recommend the Backseat Buddy! We used one for many years in several sedan/coupe type cars we had and it is still going strong - in fact just lent it to a friend for his new car (we don't use it anymore as we have a hatchback for the dogs now). It is easy to use, easy to wash and the dogs always loved it. Worth every penny!

50mm 1.4 Or 1.8 Post Your Pics Here!
New Age Outlaw replied to Kirislin's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Some amazing shots there from everyone! I almost feel like I don't belong here! When we went overseas this year I impulse bought a 50mm 1.8 lense at Singapore airport (it was too good a price to resist ); lucky I did because there were many places (museums and such) were you couldn't use a flash. However I was particularly please with this one. This shot was taken in St Stephens Basilica in Budapest; I just love the way the light falls in this picture. -
Desexing An Older Dog - Risks?
New Age Outlaw replied to mr.mister's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had an old girl who was desexed at 9 years old. Ordinarily I wouldn't have bothered, but she had some hormone related problems that only desexing could fix (and it did! ). Poor love also had 13 teeth out at the same time. She was pretty miserable the night she came home from the vet, but she recovered very quickly and with no complications. -
Another fan here. Mine get 2x2's as a treat every day (except the days I forget! ) and they love 'em. I started giving Ziggy and extra one (he gets 2 when the girls get 1 each) and it has help stabilise his weight a bit (he was getting hard to add weight to and was looking a bit scrawny). Never had any adverse reactions to them and they love them!!

Taking The Plunge To Barf
New Age Outlaw replied to myboyjosh's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
But humans can be infected with hydatids (even though they are only intermediate hosts, so the lifecycle of the parasite ends there) and they can cause serious, sometimes fatal consequences in humans. So even though they can't spread that way, it doesn't explain why humans are allowed to be consuming offal if it is so subject to parasitic contamination. -

OK, I know I'm going a bit here, and I apologise for that, but I am gobsmacked that it is OK for people to eat offal from the butchers but not OK for dogs. I just don't get it! *scratches head* Sorry, nothing useful to contribute; everyone has already said what I would have said anyway. -

I'm curious as to why the company having made food for greyhounds would make it bad??? -
Looking For The 'tastiest' Dry Dogfood

Had a friend who had a broody who, at certain stages of her pregnancy would only eat bbq chook. Didn't do her any harm and she had three healthy litters. -
