  1. Ohh God Susan Big hugs to you! I'm thinking of you and him, hope to hell he pulls through ok! Give the big man a cuddle from me.
  2. Thanks so much everyone It really means so much to me to know I have all of your support and well-wishes. You are all very kind. For anyone interested, is a video I took of Oakley on his last day with us. It simply shows how happy and carefree he was, enough so to let a bunny climb all over him while he's eating. This is how we choose to remember him, as a beautiful gentle giant who would never hurt a fly.
  3. PERSONALLY, I think a 30 minute walk for a 6 month old Newfie pup is too much. Think how far you can walk in 30 whole minutes, it's a long way! When I had my Saint pup, we were only walking him short distances every day or two, by "short" I'm talking literally just around our block, which is probably 600m in total. But yeah, speak to your breeder, as they will know what works for their own dogs best Good luck, and you've already heard it a hundred times, but he's such a cutie!!! ;)
  4. Wow what a response, thankyou all so very very much for your kind thoughts and lovely words. Thankyou also to those who PM'ed me. Words alone can't bring him back, but it means so much to me to know that I have the support of DOL behind me through this difficult time. Thanks everyone, I love you all! Ohhh I'm all teary again!
  5. Without a doubt the saddest day of our lives; we have just returned from the vet after giving Oakley his wings. ;) I don't want to go into too many details as it is extremely upsetting, but he was suffering from a condition and was in a great deal of pain, so we made the incredibly hard decision to send him on his way. ;) Oakley was a Saint Bernard puppy, just shy of 9 months old. He didn't live a long life, but the time he did have here with us was the happiest few months of our lives. He was a real character, and made us laugh every day. He loved absolutely everybody and didn't have a mean or angry bone in his body. What happened was nobody's fault - not our's, not the vet's, not the breeder's, and certainly not Oakley's. It was just one of those things. "Oakley-Monster" as he was affectionately known, will always be loved, always be remembered, and always held sacred and close to our hearts. He has made us fall more in love with Saints then any other dog possibly could have, and while we intend to get another, no one could replace him or change the fact that he was our first Saint, and therefore extra special. Everyone who met him loved him, as he did them. Rest in peace bubba, we will always love you. ;) Oakley: 10/2/07 - 7/11/07
  6. I think a few people on this forum (as Ashka also just said) have had success with the EP Holistic Anchovy with their allergy-suffering dogs, so maybe give that a shot? That would be what I'd try.
  7. Just stumbled across this thread after a discussion with my OH, his boss is having problems with her dog be aggressive towards her boyfriend, so I'm going to write some of these down for her, so thanks everyone. My parents live in Redwood park and I'm not far from them in Ingle Farm, will have to keep my eye out for Cassie with her 2 boys. Yes! Keep an eye out for us! Can't miss me when I'm walking those two! ;) If you ever see me please stop and introduce yourself, I won't mind at all! And the boys always love meeting new people and dogs! :D
  8. Do you know what the name of the vet was? PM me if you prefer I'm interested to know if possible...

    Lucky Lou

Ohhh Taffy I am so sorry to read this ;) He sure was a gorgeous dog. Rest in peace Lucky :p
  10. What a beautiful girl - she was so agile for her size! Would love a SB or BMD but OH says not dogs that potentially weigh more than me :D The Saint in that clip is a boy He holds 18 agility titles, as well as numerous tracking and obedience titles. A great all-rounder dog!
  11. I already said this in the other thread (the kate one ) but I can definitely vouch for Mark Singer.
  12. I can vouch for Mark Singer He is amazing, an absolute miracle worker. I have seen him turn many unruly dogs into absolute angels. Give him a go!!! (He wasn't the one who said he wasn't sure if he could help, was he?) ETA: I'm in Redwood Park too! Might see you walking at some stage
  13. K9 (or anyone else who knows) - how big exactly are the "Large" ones? Would they be big enough for a Saint Bernard?
  14. Ohhhhh ok thanks for the link! I thought Sard was some special doggie product...didn't realise it was just, um, Sard Wondersoap! Excellent I will try it on Oakley, thanks for the tip guys! ;)
  15. Actually you can use it on cats There is a special cat Furminator, there is even a horse one! Check out their website: http://www.furminator.com/ ETA: While you're on their website, check out the demos! Wow!
  16. Ebay is the way to go! I bought a large-sized one off there, it came from Japan and arrived within 4 days of me buying it, and it was just over $30 INCLUDING shipping! They seem to have heaps on Ebay too, you can't go wrong. I can understand how it would seem like a lot to pay for the ones they sell in shops though! I wouldn't have bought one at those prices either!
  17. Works wonders on both my Saint pup and adult Bernese
  18. Are you talking about the BARF patties? If so, perhaps try feeding them at room temperature rather than straight from the fridge/freezer. Also, you could try feeding her NOTHING else. I know this may seem harsh, but an otherwise healthy dog WILL NOT starve itself if there is food available to it. Just an idea, I hope others have more. Good luck!
  19. I agree fully with this. Ahh the joys of toilet training a Saint pup hey Crysti! Thank DOG Oakley is past that, because (as you would well know!) they don't just do little piddles, that one or two sheets of paper towel will soak up, they pee bloody rivers! ;) We went through SOOO much paper towel at one stage!
  20. Thanks everyone for your replies. Hazz - yeah I thought that would be the case! Just checking!
  21. Neither of my dogs are into their senior years yet, but the general rule I go by is that they should have a thorough check-up once a year, increasing to twice a year once they "get old"
  22. Thanks for the replies. Kymbaly - so you just feed the patties, is that what you meant? Or when you said "the natural way" do you mean doing it all yourself? How many dogs do you have to feed? Can I ask what it costs (approximately) per week to feed them all? Isiss - I don't actually have my own butcher, we tend to just buy meat from the supermarket. There are a fair few close by to me though so yes, I should definitely check them out. What do you say when inquiring? That you are looking to feed your dog/s? Or do you pretend you're after human food, so then you know you're getting human-grade meat?
