I feed my 3 year old Bernese Mountain Dog Eagle Pack Large/Giant Breed Adult, but he was raised (as a puppy) on ProPlan Puppy, as by the breeder's recommendations. I feed my 3 month old Saint Bernard puppy Royal Canin Giant Breed Baby Dog, as by the breeder's recommendations.

Thanks for the responses. Why do people say they wouldn't use them on a show dog, is that because it cuts the coat? (I don't know if it does or not, if that's the way it works, I'm just asking if that's why?) Leema - thanks for that. I'm assuming the one you've got is a smaller size though than the one I'm looking at (Double 18 Blade). I haven't seen that size for any less than $58 so far. But thanks!!!

WELL!!! I always thought The Furminator was good, but today at the Pet Expo we test-drove a Mars Coat King and I am impressed! I didn't have $61 on me to purchase one, but took away a brochure and a very high opinion of the tool! Does anyone know if you can buy them somewhere online for cheaper? I got my Furminator off Ebay for about a quarter of the price I've seen them advertised in shops for, but just did a search for the Mars Coat King on Ebay and there were only a few results, and none were the size I need. Any suggestions?

Sammy!!! Ohhhh my gosh it can't be true? I feel for you buddy, we all know how much your dogs mean to you. If love alone could keep him here then he never would have been taken from you at all. Far too young, such a sad loss. So sorry to hear this. Rest in peace little man, run free

I agree with Tony, ask the lady about it if you're that curious, she may be willing to tell you all there is to know about said collar! But I personally wouldn't go "dobbing her in" to the club. If the club hasn't noticed, well it's their problem isn't it? Let her train her dog the way she wants to, so long as she's not hurting or abusing it.

Wow I find this thread fascinating as I had NO IDEA about this new every-three-years thing rather than annually. Is this a new discovery/finding that it is better, or is it common knowledge to some but has been kept in the dark? I will certainly be asking my vet more about this when Hudson goes for his puppy shot next week. If the vet has no idea what I'm talking about, or tries to talk me out of it, should I run the other way??

Ohh in that case I would think that's fine then! Yes definitely get some pics next time, wet pooches are so funny looking!

Swimming is great exercise for dogs of all ages! It takes the stress off of young and growing, or old and sore joints. I would have thought a whole hour was a bit long for a young pup? My opinion only, I'm not basing this on any fact as I really wouldn't know.

When Do You Switch From Puppy Food To Adult Food?

LOL this thread is so old! (that's ok though I don't mind!) I remember I checked with his breeder first, and ended up switching to adut food when he was about 16 months old. -
Are the ingredients listed anywhere? (Apologies if it's right in front of my nose! I have looked on that website...)

Ohhhhh gosh I am so sorry I have just found this thread and thought, no way, there must be some mistake Those photos of him with your son are too precious. I like many others cried when I saw them. Sorry to you and all your family but an extra piece of my heart goes out to your son, poor lad losing his four-legged buddy so young Life is way too short. Another DOL favourite poster boy has been sadly taken from us

No can't say I have, actually I've never had to board any of my dogs, but where are you located? Possibly someone could recommend something near you

Everything I have read on this subject suggests that pups do not need milk (other than that from their mother while they are babies) and that stuff you can buy in the cartons "Puppy Milk" or whatever it's called is just a waste of money! :D Make sure your pup has access to clean, cool, fresh water at all times. A healthy pup will not just NOT drink if it's thirsty. As Tess said, maybe he's just not a big drinker?

Thanks so much to everyone, not just for the posts here but the many many PM's I have received also I apologise for not replying to each of you individually yet, but I hope to get there! Just takes time :D You have all been so kind and said such thoughtful things. The power of DOL really does make losing a loved one that teensy bit easier :D

I'd say you definitely need to nip this in the bud whilst Turtle is still a (relatively ) manageable size. If you think people are unsure of him now at 6 months, wait til he's fully grown and still misbehaving! Ahhhh the joy of giant breeds hey! I'm sure others (Erny etc...) will be along soon enough to offer their wise words of advice, but maybe one thing you could try would be to ask the assistance of a volunteer or two, and don't allow them to approach until Turtle is sitting and is calm. Tell him to sit, and keep his focus with food, or a squeaky toy, or whatever works for you/him, and THEN let the people approach him and say hello. I had success using this method with my Bernese when he was a youngster. Good luck!
