I love love love my Bernese Mountain Dog to bits, I truly think they are the greatest breed! I also love love love the two Saints I've had in the past, and think they are the equal greatest breed :D I can't see myself getting anything other than more of the above (getting a new Saint pup hopefully later this year or early next) but if I had to choose something different I would love to own a Newfie or a Leonberger. I also really love CAO's but I am definitely not suited to own one.

Everyone loves Zephyr, and I mean everyone. I think Bernese appeal to so many people because: - their size appeals to blokey blokes - their furry cuddly body appeals to kids - their friendly face appeals to oldies - their striking looks appeal to women That's my summary anyway, I've thought about it a lot in the past!

He looks amazing Number four!

Slightly off topic as this was a pet rat not a feral mouse (although to some minds I suppose there's no difference) but here is my old pooch Hudson with his mate:

I live in Norwood and love it :D I'd say Adelaide is very dog friendly overall.

I've only just seen this thread now!!! Ohhh my gosh Lindsay hugest congrats to you on this litter!!! ;) :D -
Congrats to all involved! Tell us more...do you show often? Have you received any group wins with him before? Do you often come up against judges who have no idea what he is, or are most pretty good?

I love the look of Clumbers, such gorgeous dogs Are they really classed as an active dog though? I would think that many (all?) of the other spaniel breeds would be more active than a Clumber, more than happy to be corrected though

Training A Dog Not To Run Away When Off Lead
cassie replied to Loungefly's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I love this idea Piper Think I will use this when I get another puppy one day. -
There are plenty of giant breeds in Aus which are docile and relatively easy to own, some far less common than others. I'm sure one of them would suit you better, and you could go for one of the rarer ones if that is what's influencing you so strongly. I just hope you don't want a certain type of dog purely because it's different, as in my eyes that's having your dog as a status symbol. Just my opinion, good luck in whatever you decide.

I wasn't at this particular meet but have been to many in the past, so from a semi-outsouder point of view can I just say that this: and this: are the best ideas that have been put forward so far in my opinion. We used to come regularly, until my on leash Hudson was approached by a dog who had a go at him, was recalled, then came back and had another turn. I always kept Hudson on leash after that (the few times we came again) as I was unsure how he'd react in future and would rather he be right next to me so I could reprimand him and/or remove him if necessary. Not that I have Hudson anymore so it's not such an issue, and Zephyr is fine with everyone so I was planning to start coming again, now I'm not so sure? I know we always say everyone and every dog is welcome and I'm NOT suggesting that that's not still the case, but if too many dogs are in the one small space and certain dogs are behaving in ways that other dogs do not like, but nothing is said to anyone (!!!!!) then maybe the boundaries need to be redefined. My two cents anyway.

Bit extreme don't you think? It's a bit of fun, that's all. Cute site, although neither of my breeds are on there. Ohhh, right, thank goodness!

Pork Pies Or Lies The General Public Tell Us
cassie replied to freundhund's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had a crazy man following Zephyr and I on our walk the other day, and I mean CRAZY! Zephyr was panting, normally mind you, he was nowhere near exhaustion or anything of the sort, but the man told me I was cruel to be walking him as "Look how tired he is!" Then he proceeded to tell me that dogs do not like walks, it's a common misconception. They hate being away from their home. But wait it gets better...how did he know all these interesting facts? Oh he used to be a dog in a past life. Riiiiight -
Many campgrounds are dog friendly, although not many are available over Christmas/New Years. We've just booked a campground at Port Fairy in Victoria for over New Years, and we're taking Zeph with us Really excited can't wait!

What Is Advantage Of Being A Canine Good Citizen?
cassie replied to W Sibs's topic in General Dog Discussion
Does it mean you get discounted council registratrion? -
I meant to add, I was really worried about splitting them but they've both been fine. Zephyr lives with my partner's housemate's dog now so still has company, and the ex has plans to get a new pup for Hudson. Yours may be very attached to each other yes, but I believe dogs are resilient (others will disagree) and singledom doesn't have to last forever :D
-
I was in this exact same position earlier in the year. I moved out of our house, he kept the dogs and the house, and we agreed to sort the dogs' living situation out down the track. In the meantime I was still visiting them every day. Now I have a new partner and Zephyr lives with him, while the ex kept Hudson. I truly did not want to split them up either BUT my ex turned into an absolute bastard and I needed to cut all ties with him. Hopefully this doesn't happen in your situation. Big hugs and my thoughts are with you, it's such a difficult time :D Please PM me if you'd like to talk more.

I am looking for a similar car soon also! There's a few of us looking it seems, wonder if we can get a group discount? On my shortlist is the new Forrester, a Honda CRV, or a Hyundai Tucson. Anyone have any experience with the Tucson? I haven't driven any of these yet. Oh, and I have to have a sunroof Just one of those things I WANT and will GET!!! For no real reason!

I've been stopped literally hundreds of times walking Zephyr and Hudson. I love when people want to meet them, whether they want a cuddle or just to say hello, it makes me so proud I distinctly remember one old man asking me if they were show dogs, and I giggled and said no just pets. He almost seemed amazed that such beautiful dogs (haha biased?? :D ) were "just" pets Now I only own Zephyr the BMD, and we live right by the Norwood Parade (for anyone not in SA, it's a very busy street full of shops/cafes/restaurants/businesses in a lovely area just out of the Adelaide CBD.) Zeph now gets walked every day down The Parade and the attention he receives astounds me! People love him, and it's the greatest feeling. So many people have asked me what he is and where he came from etc, and are genuinely interested in the breed. I agree Souff, it is such great recognition to get them out there and noticed Don't hide your beautiful canines in your backyard for no one to see and admire!

Adelaide Secret Santa - Xmas Meet On Dec 5th
cassie replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have PM'ed Taffy to ask if this is do-able. I suppose it will depend on whether whoever has me has purchased something already. Can I just say, if they have, they are ridiculously organised! -
Adelaide Secret Santa - Xmas Meet On Dec 5th
cassie replied to MsKatie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Crap I don't think I'm going to be able to make this meet now! Have a good friend's birthday celebrations on the same day and I really don't want to miss it. Just an idea, but Fran would you like to participate in SS still? You can buy for the person I have, and whoever has me can buy for you instead? OR....if this won't work I'll still buy for my person of course and will give it to KHM (if that's ok!) to take to the meet for me. -
I love boys
