My new pup hated his collar at first too. Now he forgets it's even there

Ignore them. I know it's difficult when they all feel the same and you are the minority, but you know what's best for your own dogs and by keeping their weight down you will improve their quality of life, as well as extending their life. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for doing the right thing by your animals

Sam scares me a little Genuine question, has there ever been a winner that wasn't a CC or Chi, or a cross of these?

Haha I didn't realise people were still checking this thread, sorry guys I've been posting in the Giant Fluffy thread, here are the most recent pics from there: Here are the boys sleeping together, they are totally inseperable now: And here is a few I took when we went exploring our new property (we are moving to the Adelaide Hills at the end of July, this is part of the 25 acre property) The above aren't super recent, I need to take some more soon, he is growing so quickly! Show training is coming along nicely and our first show is less than two weeks away

Thankyou I understand now, makes perfect sense I do use a mirror to help me see what the judge would see, very useful. Thanks a lot for your replies, they make a lot of sense and I will try out these methods

Why eat from a bowl all by myself? If I wait long enough someone will sit with me and feed it to me! Why eat this boring food? If I wait long enough they'll offer me something more tasty! Fox Terrible I know it's difficult but you really have to be firm. You know the saying "Be cruel to be kind" well it applies in this situation. Continue to seperate your dogs when feeding them. Put pup's food down in a quiet spot where he has no other distractions. Give him ten minutes to eat, at the end of the ten minutes his bowl is taken away and he does not have the chance to eat again until his next meal. Repeat for each and every meal. He'll soon learn that when the food is down he is to eat it then and there. Offering several different types of food when he turns his nose up at something just makes for a fussy eater IMO. A healthy dog will NOT starve itslef

Thankyou that ebook looks good. I've never done clicker training but I like the idea of starting by touching his lips and progressing slowly. Call me silly but I didn't even think of that, and have been jumping straight into lifting his lip. Poor bugger has no idea what is expected! Thankyou Thanks so much for the table tip I tried this today and he was 100% better up there. I will focus on that for a little while before I train him on the ground again. How do you "foster the free stack" ? Thankyou, I already knew this one but it's good to be reminded of. I make sure it's always a fun and happy experience for him

I do this regularly I recently went to no less than six different pet shops before I found the nail clippers I was happy with My OH just laughs it off, but I don't dare tell my non-doggy friends about such insanity -
My new Bernese baby Moose and I are venturing into the world of showing in a few short weeks! 10th July is our debut. Just wondering if anyone would be kind enough to share any of their training tips for babies. How do I get him used to someone looking at his teeth? Every time I try to practice this with him he prefers to chew on my fingers. Also he has an awesome free stack, I see him just standing in perfect position quite often when he is simply watching the world go past. But when we try to practice he turns into a wiggly worm! I am using bait and he tends to move his feet to get closer to the bait even though I shove it right in his gob. We will definitely be attending show training classes, but he's not old enough to go yet, and the way the dates fall we will only be able to attend one lesson (Thurs night) before his first show on the Sunday. So I was just hoping for a few pointers of things we could practice in the mean time! Also trust me, I know he's a baby and not to expect too much, and babies are allowed to be a bit naughty etc etc, but thought I'd start the thread anyway. Many thanks in advance.

I vote for a Sheltie

No, you let him get overweight ;) You need to seperate them when feeding.
-
"At 85kg, he is a staggering 42kg over his ideal weight." Since when should a male Lab weigh 43kg anyway??? I would have thought he was closer to 55kg over his ideal weight. I'm no expert on Labs though.

I work in a cafe on the city fringe and we are dog friendly, so dogs are allowed to sit at the outdoor tables with their owners. Every single morning without fail, we have two Bostons come in. They are cute little things! One of my work mates asked the owner about his "Pugs" and I cut in "They're Boston Terriers, not Pugs" and the owner nearly fell over! The same thing happened when someone brought along their Akita puppy, he was stunning! Another work mate was admiring the "Husky" when I corrected her. Now everyone just comes to me first and says "Cassie what breed is that?" How embarrassing - I'm the crazy dog lady! We also have a Bernese who comes in occassionally who is from the same breeder as my two, so I always have a lot to talk to them about Have also had an Old English Sheepdog, a Bouvier, a Brittany, a Viszla, all have been beautifully behaved. The other 90% are SWF's and not very many of them have any manners!

Some tri Aussie pups do look a lot like a Berner baby! And vice versa! We went to the vet to get Moose vaccinated today and one of the vet nurses had her blue merle Aussie baby there, 10 weeks old. She asked me if they could have a quick play and I agreed, gosh I wish I had my camera, they looked beautiful together! We are pretty lucky with the new property, it's just gorgeous

I live in Norwood now and have used the Parade vet a couple times (vaccinations only) and was happy enough with them. Thanks for the suggestions everyone, and to those who PM'd me too

Ok scratch that idea then! Sorry, I'm sure someone else will offer you some good advice

Is she desexed? Sometimes bitches can have a phantom pregnancy, and some have been known to collect or "round up" their toys as substitute puppies when this happens. Don't know if it can happen as young as 7 months though.

Is the green tripe toxic to humans or something?

Thanks heaps I will suss out these recommendations

I posted this in the Health section but haven't received any replies yet, thought I'd put it here too as General seems to get more traffic. Hope that's ok mods! Does anyone know of a good and trusted vet in the Adelaide Hills area? We are moving to Mt Barker at the end of July. Have done a search and found plenty of course, but I much prefer to work with a good referal than a Yellow Pages listing. I do have an extremely good vet at Lewiston who I would always travel to for any surgeries, xrays, etc. But as far as vaccinations and general check ups go, I'd like someone a little closer. Thanks in advance
