Well I couldn't get hold of any samples, so going by the great reviews in this thread (and the fact that my adult Berner is not generally a fussy eater) I bought a 20kg bag. Zephyr loves it! I will wait with baited breath to see the long term results. His coat is in quite good condition anyway, but he definitely produces too much waste. He could do with losing a couple of kilos, so I asked the SA supplier about the weight management variety and he said he hadn't heard of one. A little strange, hopefully we get it here soon. I'm thinking of putting my 16 week old Berner puppy on this food as well. Wondering if anyone has any experience with growing large/giant breeds on Black Hawk? Not sure if I should risk it.

Bernese Mountain Dogs = Berners (never Bernies, sounds stupid IMO) Saint Bernards = Saints My favourite nickname would be Iggies for Italian Greyhounds, love it! :D

Haha so she's STILL a tart! Nothing's changed then! Yeah that's fine, when he's older we'll arrange a date. Umm I don't remember either, but we'll be at show training tomorrow night, so if you are too we can compare them then! :D Yup will be there. Great see you there! Pele loves the Berner that goes tracking on Thursday and tarts around Would that be Odin by any chance? If so Pele will be veeery jealous Haven't seen him for a few weeks. He's gorgeous Yep I know Odin well, he's beautiful and super clever. Believe he had a slight injury which would explain you not seeing him for a little while. He's the only SA Berner with a tracking title

He's about Kenzie size at the moment I think! That'd be great we'd love that

I think it's normal to prefer one colour over another. Absolutely the dog's personality and suitability must be matched to the owner first and foremost (also depending on what the dog is to be used for - pet, show, working, etc) but there is no harm in having a colour preference. If people are adamant that they will ONLY take a red merle or whatever it may be, they need to realise they might be waiting a loooong time for a pup. If they are prepared to wait as long as it takes then good for them. In the mean time they could possibly be missing out on an awesome companion of another colour.

Hey I used to live sort of near there, I'm closer to the city now, but I have a Berner baby I'd like to socialise with some nice dogs if you're interested some time?

Gayle my heart breaks for you Benson was such a gorgeous boy, I adored his non-traditional Aussie looks and he really seemed like an awesome character from the way you spoke about him. This is the most horrible news I've heard in a long time. My sincerest condolences go out to you. Run free Benson, life just is not fair

Just wondering if anyone is going to this show next weekend? It will be Moose's (and my!) first show

This is exactly what happened to me I have a 6 year old neutered boy already, absolutely love the breed and have always kept in touch with my breeder. I contacted her about a month ago to say we may be interested in another puppy soon, and she mentioned she had a lovely show potential boy available to a very special home, and she wanted him to go to someone she knew she could trust. So literally one short week later, we brought home a new baby! It has worked out perfectly and our first show is next weekend. The Rottweiler Club of SA holds show training classes on Port Road on the first and third Thursdays of the month. We will be going along this coming Thurs for our first lesson, looking forward to it! Like you, I currently know ZILCH!
