Just thought I'd bump this topic up as I attended the show training in Flaxley this morning and it was fantastic. Jane is so lovely and so helpful and kind, we really enjoyed the training. Such a friendly and relaxed class, but we gained a heap of information at the same time. I will definitely be going again

That's not such a bad thing!

Tell me about it! They were probally silly questions to people who've done it a hundred times before, but I had to ask. As a newbie it is quite daunting going to a normal show let alone the Royal!

I don't know if Paris owned a so-called "Teacup" Chi or not, but there's no denying she promoted the dog as a fashion accessory to be carried around in your handbag

Thankyou

Thanks for all the tips and info guys, much appreciated

Also what order do you go in the ring? Is it done alphabetically through all the breeds? (A-Z for all breeds) Or in groups? (A-Z for Group 1, then A-Z for Group 2, etc)
-
Ohhhhhhh! NOW I understand, thanks guys Wow the lineup must be massive then. And theoretically you could have say four of one breed in there, and they could take out 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th? (If they were the best pups on the day and all that...)

Ok great so Best Baby Puppy In Show is judged on the Sunday and we don't need to return (if for example we got Best Baby Of Breed) for General Specials on the following Saturday. Someone shout out if I'm wrong! Otherwise thankyou

I'm a newbie, what does this mean?!

Ok - is this hard to do? Maybe a job for the man of the house

Excellent! I knew rabbit was good for dogs, but I assumed this was human-grade rabbit from the butcher, wasn't sure about the feral ones. Thanks for your response. They can have them whole right, fur and head and guts and all?

I have recently moved to the Adelaide Hills and there are rabbits everywhere! Is it safe to feed these to the dogs? My OH just text me to ask if he could give one to them. He said he's checked it and it doesn't have "Mixo" (his words, I don't even know what that is or how he would check!) so is it ok? He's the country boy, not me, I don't know about this stuff!

Just looking for some clarification please. Moose is entered in the Adelaide Royal in the Baby Puppy Dog class, therefore we will be there on Sunday 4th Sept for Baby Puppies. How does this day work exactly? Do they judge each breed first, then judge the Best Baby Puppy of each Group, then the overall Best Baby Puppy In Show? OR...on this day is it only the Best BP of each breed that is decided, and then they all return for General Specials on Saturday 10th Sept? OR...something different again? Just need to work out which days I need off work, thanks!

I used a prong on my first Bernese, he was a big strong male weighing close to what I did at the time. We bought it from a trainer in Adelaide and were given a lesson on how to use it correctly. I went from dreading our walks (Zephyr was in no way aggressive, quite the opposite, he would just pull and pull and wanted to meet everyone and every dog) to absolutely loving them, and being proud of the perfect companion I had on the end of the lead. We don't use it anymore, it was a temporary trainer. Those who are for the prong are giving many examples (read: PROOF!) of their effectiveness and also that they are not physically damaging to dogs. My boy was another who loved getting into his prong as it meant we were going for a walk. However those who are anti prong are offering nothing in the form of proof at all. "They look nasty" doesn't mean a thing. Maybe we could paint them pink and cover them in feathers?

I picked my dog because she had a crooked ear, makes her look real cute. If that's what you want and it makes you luv the dog more , keep looking, but I don't think you will ge t much help here. Huh? There is plenty of help on these forums! In the first reply the OP was advised of three different British Bulldog breeders they could approach. They have also now learnt that liver is not a desirable colour and not allowed in the show ring, and they have been given reasons as to WHY this is. On DOL we promote responsible and registered breeders ALWAYS with NO EXCEPTIONS so no one here is going to pipe up and say "Ohh so and so breeds for livers, only $5k a pup!" Just because someone may not get the exact answer they were hoping for does NOT mean they have not been helped.

Simple decision really - I wanted the two best breeds alive, so I went for Bernese and Saints
-
And I love Halo :D And I've had cuddles! :D
-
Ahh ok, they were very tall whoever they were! I am sooo glad I didn't say to them "Hey what's your DOL name?" in that case I was *this* close to asking!

Nope! They are generally pigs! I know Pointers are a large breed but they are a lot finer than a Berner, so very different feeding requirements Would still love to hear from anyone who's raised a giant if anyone is around (But thanks heaps anyway english.ivy! )
