  8. Thanks all :) The pup we are waiting on - to see whether he is destined to be ours or not - is a Saint Bernard :D
  9. I would have loved to go the pet expo but we get the keys to our new house tomorrow! So will be busy moving all weekend. Say hi to the Bernese for me :) I adore Rotties, you're so lucky :) If this pup we are waiting on falls through, we are really considering a Rott!
  10. Yes you read correctly Jules :) Although it's not confirmed yet, still waiting impatiently! Yes I've been following this thread for ages now and have seen Miah, she's beautiful! I'm so happy for you that you finally got your little tri that you always wanted. Long time no speak by the way, I hope you are well xxx
  11. Hello :) Just peeking at this thread, with fingers crossed that I may be able to join :)
  12. How disgusting! Are you able to set up a video camera to catch them in the act? Surely then the police would have to do something? I really feel for you and your poor innocent pup Can you keep him restrained (fenced off I mean, a temporary type of fence) in another part of the yard? Away from that neighbour? Have you tried talking to them and asking why they are doing it and what their problem is?
  13. RIP my dear Zephyr 29/12/04 - 08/04/13 Diagnosed with lymphoma less than two weeks before his demise. He was my first dog and a true gentle giant. Everyone who knew him loved him. Zephyr used to sleep with his paw touching my foot while I was watching tv or reading, so if I got up, he would know. He was the kind of dog that would do anything for me, his Mum, but chose when it suited him to obey others. He loved other animals and people, although he had a sixth sense about some people and was wary of them, and I trusted this implicitly. I will never forget the day Zeph and I were at an off lead dog park. He was 50m away sniffing around and doing his own thing. Suddenly a fight broke out between two other dogs, practically under my feet. Zeph crossed that park in about 2 seconds flat and put himself between me and the other dogs, backing up against me as if trying to move me away, but never taking his eyes off them. A top companion who will forever be missed. I love you big guy xxx
  14. RIP beautiful Zephyr Gone but never forgotten. The cancer was too aggressive and he went downhill quickly. We gave him his wings yesterday arvo I'm heartbroken but relieved for him at the same time, that now he is at peace and free from pain. Thanks to all in here for your wishes xxx
  15. Well I can't say it hasn't been quick. We'll be saying goodbye to our dear boy tomorrow We can't bear to see him like this any longer, he hasn't eaten in three days, hasn't toileted at all today, and his tail has forgotten how to wag He's looking at us with the saddest eyes. I know he has given up. Absolutely breaking my heart
  16. Zephyr has gone downhill since having his tablets unfortunately the right side of his face has dropped as if he's had a stroke, that's what the vet suspects anyway. He's also bleeding slightly from his right nostril. The vet thinks there are probably more tumours in his throat and nasal passage. He looks terrible. The vet wants us to give the medication time to work but I don't think we can let him go on like this. It's absolutely awful I can't believe how quickly it's all happened, he was only diagnosed on the 29th of March :(
  17. Hi all. My beautiful 8 year old Bernese Zephyr has been diagnosed with lymphoma We didn't think we wanted to put him through chemo, but our vet has prescribed a new medication which is in tablet form and given orally, it is a lower dose of chemo. He says this drug is relatively new and he personally has only used it on one other dog with the same type of cancer, but this other dog improved vastly and the swelling in his lymph nodes reduced significantly. Zeph will get treated once a fortnight, and we can do it ourselves at home. The drug is meant to have no side effects. I'm wondering if anyone else has heard of or used this before? We certainly don't wish to prolong his life if he gets to the point where he is in constant pain or a state of depression. But while he still has an appetite and is still happy to see us we figure we'll give this a shot.
  18. I was enquiring for my big boys yes. Shame you can't take them anymore but I completely understand - your own health and safety needs to be a priority! :) Your salon sounds great, thanks for sharing.
  19. Crickets can you tell me where your salon is please? PM if you prefer :)
  20. Such a horrible, preventable tragedy - and I don't mean preventable by you Caz. I am furious on your behalf at such negligence RIP dear Buddy
  21. What sorts of things do you do once there? Other than walks with the dogs? We were considering going skiing for just one day so I was looking at kennels in the area, but I'm not sure the expense of hiring everything would be worth it for one day. Would have liked to watch the sled dog races but you can't take your own dogs to that. You go for a week usually, is that right? Do you find that a good amount of time?
  22. Awesome I will do that tonight, thankyou so much! :)
  23. Good memory SM! We take them to Dinner Plain every year (except last year....long story!). Its the only place in Australia you can take dogs to the snow, all other alpine villages are within national parks. I'd try for accomodation within DP - Bright and Myrtleford are a reasonable drive away Have a look HERE - we always book through them and stay at Shiraz which is a 1 bedroom apartment and they love having the dogs there (take extra treats for Ben, who is the dog that belongs to the lady who runs the visitor centre there, he is a sweetheart!). It is an upstairs apartment in the middle of the village. If it doesn't work for you though I'm sure the wonderful ladies there will be able to help find another one that suits you are your dogs :) Please dont book Shiraz for the first week in August - I'm calling dibs on it!!!! RSA you should be fine to still get accomodation there. We didn't book until around June last year - its not massively busy like the major ski resorts are. Thanks heaps for the info :) I did actually look at that site already, but was expecting to see some of the properties listed as "dog friendly" but as far as I saw none of them said that so I assumed none were. Is it a matter of calling each one to enquire whether they allow dogs?
  24. I know this has been done before, but I couldn't find what I was looking for in the searches I did. My partner and I are looking into taking the dogs to the snow this year, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding accommodation that will allow them. It would just be the two of us and our two Bernese so we don't need one of those massive chateaus that sleep 20 people. Has anyone done it before? Have read a few things about Dinner Plains, apparently you can take dogs there, but still I can't find accommodation there! I'm ready to file this one in the Too Hard basket
