A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy

I'm a bit confused too Do they mean they've never had a dog with them, as in all their other dogs were born without them? Is this even possible? -
Many breeders remove them when pups are just a few days old. Sumo came to me with no dew claws, front or rear. At this age it may be a bit bigger procedure than an infant puppy. I can think of no other negatives to having them gone though. Then again if you always keep them short they shouldn't really raise too many problems.

Advice About Becoming A Registered Breeder?

I have two dogs and I love having two. I just wouldn't get two puppies at the same time, same litter or not. -
Advice About Becoming A Registered Breeder?
cassie replied to haylz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just want to say - I am not a breeder. I'm sort of in the same boat as you actually. I currently have a male pup of my chosen breed and am showing him. I have made lots of contacts in my breed and have owned them now for six years. I consider myself a complete novice but am learning and studying and researching all the time. I adore my breed. I am in two minds as to whether I am cut out for breeding or not - one day in the far away future. At the moment I'm leaning towards no. -
Advice About Becoming A Registered Breeder?
cassie replied to haylz's topic in General Dog Discussion
Start with one puppy, two at once can be a nightmare, especially if you're only used to having one dog. If you haven't owned the breed before I don't think a reputable breeder will be willing to part with a quality female, like I said before you'd probably have a better chance obtaining a show potential male first. Do your time in the breed, show and prove you are serious. (I'm talking several years.) Your first dog may turn out to be no good (happens a lot) and is not suitable for breeding. Just something you have to deal with! Don't breed just anything to get started. I don't mean to sound rude at all, but if you haven't lived with the breed before are you even sure you like them enough to breed them? There's so many breeds I LOVE but could never live with. And bulldogs are certainly not an easy to breed kind of dog. -

Welcome haylz, you ought to be congratulated for wanting to go about things the right way You sound like a sincere and responsible person with the breed's best interests at heart. Have you owned BBs before? My suggestion would be to find yourself a great mentor (your own breeder perhaps, if you own them) within the breed who can help guide you. It's a good idea to get involved in the show ring, as you can learn so much just by observing. Not just about your own breed but about dogs in general. You may find it easier to source a show potential male initially, and you can show breeders you are serious by campaigning him. Once you are "known" in the breed it might then be easier to find your foundation bitch. I've only scratched the surface! I'm sure you will get so much more great advice here. Good luck! -
Tails I lost my 8 year old Bernese to lymphoma (cancer) earlier this year I love the breed but cancer is just all too common amongst them, so sad Sorry for your loss. A photo from the show today, Sumo left and sister Sassy right: And now at home, completely tuckered out!

Yay welcome home puppy! Do we have a name yet Fairystar?

Koda is gorgeous and looks like he's starting to get very leggy! Gotta love the funny stages they all go through. I love his serious face in the last pic  Thanks Whippytails, the show today went well. Sumo baby of breed again, beating his sister, but lost baby of group to a lovely Dobe. We'll try again tomorrow :) -
I don't have mine yet, but I just saw another site that had two different sizes: 24-29 inches or 27-33 inches. They all have a stretchy elastic neck opening, hence the variation. Hope that helps :)

Yes kelpiecuddles! Check out the Facebook site I mentioned. I'm not suggesting you copy theirs, but just for some inspiration. I'd happily buy them from Aus if I could!

Haha Mish! I'm not telling my OH what these bibs are costing I've actually ordered one for Sumo my Saint, and one for his sister as a surprise :) They'll be benched next to each other at the Royal and I think these will look great. Plus hopefully it'll stop a few thousand of the "What's his name?" questions!

Look up member Ulfhednar - he/she had an agouti Sibe :)

Yes I think it was idigadog :) Although my apologies, she is female.

I've just ordered two from a Facebook site: Droolicious 4 Paws Bibs and Biscuits. They're in the UK I think. Not cheap ($60 for both including p&h) but they are beautiful, check out the designs. And they can embroider anything you like on there. All the reviews I've read say the bibs are top quality too. Can't wait to receive mine :)

I can't remember who it was but there used to be a member on here who raced with his Sibes and they looked like Hope. He had a great website with pics of all his dogs. Sorry I can't remember the name. I guess like many breeds there is a distinct difference between working lines and show lines.

Sorry forgot to reply to this. We have shows this Sat and Sun but I'm on call for work, so it'll depend if I get called in or not as to whether we'll be there. Otherwise the following weekend :) Hopefully you wont get called in and you will be able to go this weekend as well. Guessing all the paperwork was easily sorted out with his re-registering. Yeah it was fine in the end! :) All sorted quite easily. -

That photo is a bit deceiving. He's not Moose-size yet although he is fast approaching it! Poor Moose will be overtaken in no time. I haven't weighed him for a little while but I think he'd be around the 28kg mark. -
