Thats because you are in the UK and its a requirement over there if you want your pets on the Pet Passport Scheme. As Australia does not have rabies and by comparison uses a small amount of the rabies vaccine, our supply was cut to enable vaccines to be sent to the areas where there has been rabies outbreaks. Those countries that are endemic to rabies have not had their supply affected. Even though the UK doesn't fall into that category because of the EU Passport Scheme its supply remains intact. At this stage there is only one manufacturer of the vaccine that has been approved for import to Australia. Last I heard there were other manufacturers that were going through the process of being allowed to import it.

Your right, I just checked and it says must be used within 3 hours !!!! Looks like thats the last time I get it done locally. I can travel 4hrs to Coffs Harbour as there is an AQIS vet there. I thought I was saving $$ on fuel costs to get it sent here I'll know for next time. We won't always be getting the 10 vial doses here, they will go back to shipping the single dose vials once the shortage is over.

Depends on the import requirements for each country. Some require prior vaccination, others allow for them to be done at the destination.

There is a global shortage of rabies vaccinations - Australia was only allowed to be shipped the 10 dose vials instead of the usual single dose vials (don't ask me why!). But thats why they are in the country. A lot of the AQIS accredited vets are doing rabies vaccination days to minimise the cost for everyone involved. I would be double checking of the length of the vaccination once opened - I was told it only has a shelf life of 24 hours after opening.

If you can't find somewhere can you stay in a hotel and see if a boarding kennel will allow you to night board the animals - and take them out during the day? You would have to have a car though I'm guessing. Annes also posted some good links for you. As I live here, I've never really had to find accommodation. I know some caravan parks will accept dogs but thats generally when they are sleeping in a dog trailer/the owners caravan.

dasha beat me to it, the only two visiting days are Tues and Thurs. Like Aziah I think you'll be hard pressed finding somewhere, especially with 3 large dogs.

Week 1 of the Flynny Monster

My hopeful Flynn - Lanbart Hugo Boss - first shows in puppy this month. (need to get some updated stacked shots of him)

There is a panel of judges. Everyone is put into a heat at random (usually about 10-15 dogs) and you enter the ring all at once (like sweepies). Each judge goes over the dog and you are made to do a triangle, up and back etc. Once everyone in the heat has had their go the judge shortlists some. I think from memory last year they had the heats then a semi and then the final... Or it could have been straight to the final round. I can't remember sorry.

If you need a hand walking them just yell. I work at Port Botany so could come after work. I can't really stay though as I have to get home to my own dogs though.

Yeah I forgot to take into account that Moo might either be in season or in whelp (depending on when we breed her). I guess that could mess up my plans lol. I am thinking I'll either do Sydney or Canberra. The Vic one sounds lovely though!

I had plans on doing it with Moo this year - OH thinks is all incredibly funny and that Moo couldn't possibly do it So I'll toss up doing it at either Canberra or Sydney. Nik where are you going? Flynn is not eligible until 2012.
