I love the idea of night shows but agree it can be very hot at 5pm at EP! Big fan of the double shows
-
I wouldn't turn down a job to show - you still have Sunday's. Plus work pays for show entries.
-
Work always comes first, I work so I can have my dogs. I normally only show on weekends but when I can get days off I do some triples or head away to Royals or overseas Nationals. It's about finding balance.

Lesson With Luci Ellem At Camarna Kennels
poocow replied to Willowlane's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love Luci - she is a wealth of knowledge and helped me become a competent handler. -
Luci is moving so she might not be doing many private lessons. Her group classes have ceased. Be firm with her but not overly rough of course. Every time you want her to stack say stand as you are moving her legs. Keep her head still- control the head to control the dog. Any hold of her stack she gets release and praise/treat. Showing is mostly learning by doing.

I'm so bummed I will miss going there. Thanks for letting me know Castle Hill isn't on WL

The only time you just buy one catalogue for a multi day show is when the schedule clearly states it - it's pretty rare, only one cataloguer in NSW up north does it. Baby Puppy - 1a and also 3-6 sweeps if you wish to enter that. Pretty straight forward online but make sure you get your rego number and the dogs rego number correct. Just lift it straight off the rego papers :)

Breeding Fields is a challenge and requires a deep pocket lol Any particular reason for this? apart from the obvious needing to import semen due to the small gene pool in Australia Fields can be hard to breed - fertility seems to decline rapidly once middle aged in both dogs and bitches. Field semen isn't great frozen. No cases of success here in Australia. Odds are if you get a bitch it is probably already the result of a line breed so you'll need to go out to breed her. Then you're looking at a live import or frozen semen- and that's just 1 gen. Repeat again and import for gen 2. Hence the deep pockets!!!

Yes frozen semen is good, especially as techniques develop in collection and storage methods. I plan on having my boy collected to use in future generations and to ship overseas if requested
-
Fields have always been on the rare list - quite a small gene pool that all goes back to 2 dogs and 2 bitches that "rescued" the breed from extinction in the 1960s.

I've had an Adaptil collar on my boy for anxiety around people - no change. Ordered a thundershirt so I'll see if that offers any improvement.

English Springer Spaniel Willow's Story :)
poocow replied to Willowlane's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keep an eye on Ozentries and Easy Dog Entries as they often only close the week before :) Don't expect babies to be fully trained, just go out and have fun. Also enter sweepstakes as they are a fun learning experience for babies. I go to show training at Luci's :) -
Woweeee!!! You are so incredibly talented. I am blown away! I honestly wish I had an ounce of your talent. Sadly art is not one of the things I'm good at. Do you do commissions?

Welcome to the gundog ring :) If you need any help just holler. I show all over NSW with my Fields (and Aussies) -
I think doing an AI on a maiden bitch is fine. This would be provided your bitch has had the swabs done and is healthy and of course that the semen you are importing has a good post thaw motility. If the semen quality wasn't as good I would probably opt to do a back to back litter with the frozen as the 2nd litter.
-
I have bought in semen from OS and its failed - an expensive exercise for nothing in return. My breed is very hard to get successful litters using frozen semen from. I will try again at a later stage but not with the initial bitch I tried with - shes getting too old to try now. I am going overseas to meet some dogs soon, see them in the flesh and see what lines I like/don't like etc. In a few years I would like to bring over a bitch - hopefully in whelp. Having a rare breed we are constantly needing to expand our gene pool as theres just such limited options here. With Aussies I would be looking at what meshes well with what you have - theres quite a lot of variation of bloodlines already here that you can see what works and what doesn't work etc.

There is no live stream of breed judging, only general specials Currently I know: DCC - Ch Kellagem Show Me The Money RDCC - Am Gr Ch Sup Ch Bordalace Flash N Dash PT

Contact Matt at Bay City Pet Travel and see what they can arrange. I would say it would be more costly from NZ to Perth than from NZ to an East coast airport.

Lovely :) Best of luck in the show ring with him. I sometimes see the ones being shown in Central West NSW :) -
I have 2 OKS and have just ordered a C crate one as I wanted something a bit bigger. Love my OKS and I'm sure I'll love my new C Crate too C-crates was recently sold again to a lovely couple - am loving the new colours and durable wheels they are producing.

So sorry to hear that news SM. You will need to get your sister to get export pedigrees done for her dogs through the CKC so they can be re-registered here with ANKC. She will have to join her state canine control which I'm guessing will be Dogs NSW and then get the dogs re-registered. Their titles will be recognised here. The transfer of her prefix (kennel name) might be more problematic, not sure how that is done.

I didn't think it mattered if a Q dog was shown for an indefinite period of time in another state? I know that the other way ie. another states dog being shown in QLD has a 3 month rule.

Yep definitely big gates to keep people out my OH used to take the aussies early in the AM and would often had to wait for them to open up. -
Find out what she shows best on - I would suggest a snake chain or similar.
