Expecting a litter of Field Spaniels early May

A lot of the old time DOLers would remember Darcy and his forever worrying me with near death experiences. Today I said goodbye to my old man. Never in a million years did I think he would get to this age. His body and mind had started to fail him and it was his time to go. RIP Darcy Doogan 31/1/03 - 17/10/17

I have forgotten the details, but when I brought my two to the US, it was a bit more complicated than this. You're supposed to do a rabies shot some time before you fly (I think it was a month). Not many vets do this. In some places you can do the rabies vaccination upon arrival and then do home quarantine. I think there was some sort of treatment to get rid of fleas and ticks within some specified time before travel as well. Rabies is not compulsory for export to the USA. It is recommended to get the rabies vaccination done though given that rabies is present in the US Treatment is not compulsory either

Yes vet - whats her temp? Shes in the key risk infection time post-season. Pyo is horrible - best caught early.

Don't quote me on the number, I could be right off. I didn't really look into the kangaroo meat as I don't feed it. I definitely know their chicken, turkey, beef etc is preservative free.

I'm pretty sure the preservative is 220? Its in all of the kangaroo you buy for pet meat - something about the different parasites that are in kangaroo meat or something. I don't feed kangaroo so I didn't really go research it. I feed chicken and turkey.

All that is required for export to the USA is a vet check by a Dept of Ag accredited vet within 3 days of departure and the export paperwork from Dept of Ag.

I can find out if you like? I personally haven't fed quail but it's good for fussy eaters and those that need a higher fat content.

No preservatives in their chicken, turkey, beef etc. Roo wherever you buy it will have some form of preservative in it.

Field Spaniel - their nose taking over from their brain. If they engage nose they virtually lose all ability to hear or contemplate that other people exist. On a personal level with this breed I find sourcing bloodlines to increase the genetic pool very hard - well that and actually breeding litters as they aren't an easy breed to get in whelp

Oh ok sorry didn't know they had shows for them. Are there any ANKC shows out near you that you could pop into as theres bound to be a vendor there. Fine snake chain or paracord sounds like the best bet.

Ok did your breeders show you how to clip? For my breed (Field) I have a pair of heiniger clippers with a 7f blade - you clip against the grain so you don't get lines (clipper marks). I generally clip mid week so it's not got that fresh look come the weekend. For feet I use straights on pads and thinners to shape and on the hocks.

What clippers do you have? They make or break a groom job IMO!

You don't have to qualify for any of the Royals in dogs - sports are a different story though.

There are lots of shows all over NSW so you have plenty to choose from. If you enter online they pretty much close the week before - good for lazy people like me. I usually show alone - it's pretty easy to wheel your stuff across in a trolley, set up a gazebo etc. I try to pack light if it's just a single day show. At EP I'll sometimes sit under an awning so I don't need a gazebo. Show wise I'm pretty much just entering the big ones - trying to curb my spending. So I'm only doing Sydney KC, the Ekka and then Spring Fair. Probably nothing after that until Melbourne Royal.

Keep battling on Just remember your breeders are seasoned showies who have been doing this a long time. You're onlu learning so don't stress about making mistakes.

All of my puppies went interstate - but they are a rare breed and while there are breeders around the country its more a matter of being on a waiting list for x amount of months and finally getting a puppy. I get enquiries from around the world - none of which I think are suss. But very different breed to yours in terms of popularity etc.

As a side note - I wouldn't be taking a young pup for an hour walk. Far too much stress on young developing joints.

This is just one incident that has occurred at this centre. I know of many others. Pet owners need to be aware of the huge risk they place their dogs under letting them run in packs that size.

Gunnedah can be very cold that time of year but there are powered sites at the grounds. It's actually one of the nicest grounds to camp at. I'm not familiar with motels that allow dogs in rooms as I normally camp up there. Travelling - usually takes me 5hrs from the Northside of Sydney towing. Stopping - maybe every 1.5hr-2hrs if her bladder isn't used to holding it. But I've found I only need to stop once with pups. There's 6 springers entered up there that weekend - Lee-Ann will be one of the exhibitors, she's lovely so say hi and I'm sure she will be willing to help you :)
