  1. They are in a zip lock bag, similar to the chunkers and were in the freezer next to the frozen roo mince. Maybe try a foodland if you have 1? As I think they are sold mostly through IGA stores.
  2. LOL, I have way more crates than I do dogs. To save on cost in the short term you could use the show trolley as a crate. The airline crate for Levi will be fine for a couple of weeks as you don't want them to have too much space to begin with anyway, then use the show trololey with him if you haven't manaed to get another crate. It is very expensive to start with. Getting Jazz cost me a fortune - gazebo, show trolley, grooming supplies. Luckily I already had the crates. Just be aware with Bailey as he is 2 and never been crated it may take him some time to be comfortable with the idea, having said that my boys were much older when I introduced them to crates and they loved them right away.
  3. A small amount. Mostly muscle meat, offal and veggies the way I read it. I will probably still add some yoghurt and egg to it as well.
  4. I was just in Foodland at Munno Para and noticed these as I walked past. I have looked for them quite a few times in the past with no luck and today when I was not looking there they were. They also had the "ice cream" treats and some frozen mince. I am quite impressed with the ingredient list for the price - they cost $3.80 for a 1kg pack. Hopefully the girls like them, will find out tonight as they were due for a non bone meal anyway.
  5. I would be interested in hearing if anyone in SA has had it done and where as well.
  6. And here was I about to come back and do a nice polite edit after I got a chance to read the next page.
  7. My parents have had dogs all of my life. All of them have been well trained, suitable for being of lead with a reliable recall and great dogs to live with. Do they understand the quadrants - no, guess they should never have had dogs for the last 40 years then. Some people just do things "cos they work" with no understanding of why, doesn't necessarily make them a bad owner. On the other hand I know quite afew people that know the quadrants very well and go on and on about them but would I want them near my dogs. Hell no, not if the way their own dogs are trained is an example of how they put their knowledge of quadrants to use!
  8. I am currently feeding Uncle Albers which is a larger size kibble and my border collies hardly chew it at all, no problems here with that. I also feed a majority raw diet and if you saw the size of some of the chunks of bone or meat they break off and gulp down without chewing you would die of shock, kibble if a few cm is nothing in comparison. 1 of my old BC boys with lamb hearts used to basically break them in half and swallow in 2 mouthfuls!! More concern to me would be the fact he is not getting any good chewing for teeth cleaning benefits than the damage it could do swallowing it whole.
  9. I'm up North so can't help with phone numbers but Southern Animal Hospital on South Rd and then there is the emergency clinic on ANZAC Highway.
  10. So far I haven't found an increase in poov olume but it is also only about 1/3 of my dogs food, the rest being raw meaty bones and offal so that is possibly why. They only get 1 or 2 meals a week of it. I can tell by colour though which poos are from them having that - much darker. Charming the things we notice isn't it?
  11. They are made by Laucke who also do quite a range of stock feeds. The only places I have found them are stock feed stores. So maybe try looking up any stock feed places near you and giving them a ring. If they stock any Lauckes feeds they should be able to get them in easily for you. Or you could go to the Laucke webpage and send them an email to see if they can tell you who stocks it.
  12. Great that the problem is gone and you will probably never know for sure if it was the food. I am another that based on comments on DOL recently bought a bag of Uncle Albers. I was a little tight financially over Xmas and they get about 2/3 raw anyway and wanted something cheaper than the super premium to fill in their diet with (not 100% raw due to lack of storage space and not always able to get good bones on an almost daily basis). I figured $28 for 22kg and if it wasn't great I would donate it to a rescue group and buy something else when I got paid next. Well I got paid this week and haven't gone to get anything yet as I am quite happy with how they are looking and also what I am cleaning up - I was worried there would be massive piles in the backyard but nope. Can't say how it is affecting coat so far as both Piper and Jazz are blowing coat big time right now so it will be interesting to see how the new coat comes in.
  13. Reagan and Ricky are together again. They were only 11 months apart in age and answered for most of their lives to the collective term of "boys" or "the boys". They answered to it too - probably better than to their names. It is hard for me to talk about 1 without the other. Reagan (Kennoway Tartan Bandit ADX) was the dog we were not getting. We were a 1 dog family, then Ricky was attacked at 11 months of age and nearly lost. We contacted the Sullivans and told them of the news, at the time they had just had a litter of pups. 10 weeks down the track Ricky had survived but with a fair few mental hang ups. We lived near Kennoway Kennels and organised to take him around to play with some of their dogs. So he had a play with a pup. By the end of the visit I was driving home to convince my parents that Ricky needed that pup. 3 or 4 days later I went back with Mum and Ricky must have known something was up - he didn't want a bar of that pup. Mum relented and let me take him home anyway. So we came to have "the boys". Once we got home it was only about 30 inutes before Ricky broke down and played with him again. They both had the best temperaments you could ever hope for. Ricky, inspite of being an entire male and having been badly attacked never showed any animosity to other dogs in fact at the first hint of a problem he would take off - something that created lots of training issues for a long time. Reagan on the other hand was ultra friendly but every dog on earth must have known he meant no harm. I would cringe as I watched him invite a dog to play by standing over the top of it or standing up and putting his front leg over the shoulders of a bigger dog. Never once did he even get growled at, let alone flattenen and he was nearly always succesful in getting his game. Reagan was nick named Tigger cos he loved to bounce - he couldn't run directly in a straight line anywhere but he also didn't knock bars in agility (the only 1 of my 3 to jump clean!). He took a lot longer to get his ADX than he should have - he rarely had a course fault but time faults of less than a second through to about 3 seconds were common - if he had put his energy nto forward propolsion rathern than vertical he would have had no problem or if he had not slowed down on dogwlks to check out the scenery as he strolled across or stayed on tables an extra second or so looking for admirers!! You couldn't ever get angry at him as he was such a clown. Ricky and Reagan were certified seasoned travellers - trialing in 3 states. I used to joke they were so expensive to trial as they never passed locally but it was a rare occasion that we returned from an interstate trip without a pass or 2. Even in the car they were no problem - on 1 occasion I drove to Sydney with a friend and her dogs, none of the dogs ever having met beforehand. 4 dogs and 2 people in a station wagon from Adelaide to Sydney. Reagan somehow or other managed to pester the other dogs into playing even in the confined space. The last couple of years he has lived out his retirement with my parents, as did Ricky. Reagan was always the family dog and Ricky was supposed to be mine - only he chose Dad and Dad chose him so 2 or 3 years ago the decision was made that they would live out their days with Mum and Dad, it still didn't lessen the pain tonight. Run free boys, you are together again. Reduced: 80% of original size [ 800 x 532 ] - Click to view full image An endearing trait they were known for was their synchronised head tilts.
  14. I've got to get back into this. I had 3 days of photos on my card and went to download them and the camera said card unusuable and gave me coice but to format Still no pic for today - having a hard day today. I could have got a great blue tongue lizard photo if I wasn't at home by myself and attempting to keep 2 boeder collies and a beagle away from the silly thing that decided to sun themselves on a log in their yard!! Will see what I can get later this evening.
  15. One again great photos everyone. Poocow for only having recently got an SLR you are getting some great action shots. I have had a busy couple of days. I have taken pics, just need to get around to uploading them. A task for tomorrow.
  16. Home from visiting puppies. This 1 is straight out of the camera and just cute
  17. Today's Like yesterday today was hectic. I am just pleased that this week so far I have picked up the camera every day. Tomorrow I am going to play with a litter of 7 week old BC babies so plenty of photo ops Love everyones work, the diversity and talent in here is great. I am glad it is not a comp with voting as there is no way I could pick a favourite, too many fantastic shots.
  18. Well after a 41 degree day, worki, helping OH pack for a 3 day trip out to the Pt Lincoln fires and then a meeting tonight. Here is my 1 and only pic for the day. Don't think PIper was too impressed with me waking her up!
  19. I've just got home from work and it is not good. Was 28 already when I left home at 6:30 this morning at 35 at work by 9am!! Otherhalf is in CFS and is working at the radio room, hoping like heck nothing happens. I'm trying to think what to do for todays pic, whatever I decide it will be indoors!!!
  20. Yeah the 2 mentioned are the only dog pools I know of in SA. Quite afew years ago I was told there is a horse pool at Globe Derby and that at certain times and days it can be used for dogs. I was told lots of greyhounds go there. Not sure what it is called, where you would look it up or if it even still exists. Sorry. Maybe you could try ringing Globe Derby or Harness Racing SA.
  21. My shot for today. How I have been spending my free time lately...
  22. Great thread Laffi, and you even went to the trouble of finding what I wrote last time to save me typing it again
  23. I love checking this thread and seeing everyones wonderful work. It is so diverse, it's interesting to see the different things people see or how they see things. Lea after seeing your sunset picture and saying ours are nothing like that I decided to take a pic of that. It is VERY boring!
  24. I LOVE the colours in that sunset Lea and the composition of the photo. Our sunsets are so dull compared to some that I have seen posted on here and from our house it is hard to get a good view.
  25. Todays pictures from me. THey aren't the greatest, the light is very harsh out there at the moment but I grabbed the camera when the 12 year old step son decided to go play with the dogs and got him to throw the frisbee for them. I captured what I wanted which was Jazz catching it, now I know I can get that I will try it another day in better conditions. And I liked this 1 for the intensity on her face as she is tracking it: And just for fun: Jazz relaxing after a good game.
