I haven't done it personally, but I know someone who was told their dog had similar to exercise induced asthma and it was suggested they do this before training or off lead walks. Ventolin can be bought over the counter at a pharmacy and then they had a kids spacer with mask and would hold that over the dog's nose. I would recommend doing some training first so they don't freak out about it. 1 way would be to teach the dog to put it's nose in something on cue and can easily be done by putting treats in something like a coffee mug or small yoghurt container (depending on width and length of you dog's muzzle) so they learn to reach in and get something out.

I got Jazz at 9 weeks and bathed her in the laundry tun until about 12 weeks then used the hydrobath. That was partly because she was too little before that for me to easily reach in the hydrobath and also I did worry it was too powerful whereas using the hose attachment in the laundry I could vary the pressure of the water.

Taken with the iphone today. We have had a busy day that included visiting the local hospital to meet our nephew. Here he is - just 15 hours old and currently in the Special Care ward -
If you made them as sold them as an "Equipment bag" I think they would go quite well. You could include exampels of use and state large and strong enough to carry an umbrella, stake or obedience and agility equipment.

Largs is a great beach to go to with the dogs - usually a lot less people and it is a nice beach. It is our favourite beach spot, I'm never brave enough to take my SLR down there with me though. -

A short series today - was only going to be 1 but Jazz had other ideas. I was going to just do her toy collection - but you see her beloved frisbee was in the pile so she had to be part of it: Posing didn't last long before the temptation got too great: So then she wanted me to throw it (inside - as if!) And then Piper came to see what was going on, so Jazz felt the need to pick up her frisbee and go to save it from Piper's interference -
No idea, I had 2 boys, 11 months apart in age and without fail dogs would always hump the same boy. He would tell them off and ty and get away but it never stopped it. I asked a vet behaviourist about it as well when at a seminar and they couldn't answer why it was either. And I don't take the "they wanted to dominate him" as we could be in a group of 15 or 20 dogs and he would be the 1 singled out. It could be dogs we knew well or dogs we had never met. Older dogs, younger dog, bigger dogs, smaller dogs. There was no pattern to it except that it was always Reagan, never Ricky or any other entire or desexed male there. It happened all his life, I owuld always have to watch out as he got older and had back end problems to protect him from other dogs wanting to hump him.

It's been ages since I have joined in a challenge, and I figure it is only day 6 and better late than never I tired for a nice portrait shot of 1 of the girls this afternoon. Only they weren't too cooperative. Probably because I had taken to them with the instruments of torture (or that is what I think they would call them!). It was bath day at our house -
Normal Behaviour After Desexing?
piper replied to Karelea Aussies's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Only thing that created a problem with Piper was the cone head collar, she had a major freak out over that and I wished I hadn't put it in her as she had been fine before hand but as I wasn't going to be able to supervise I decided it would be better with it on. Neither of my boys were a problem either, Ricky was very quiet after his but he always seemd to come out of anaesthetic a bit slower than any others. All 3 though had pretty much normal behaviour very quickly and had to be watched to prevent them over doing it. -
Thanks Steph, just found that. Also found that I HAVE LOST MY ENTRY FORM BOOK!!!!! I'll have to see if I can borrow a couple. It's always on my desk, and now it has disappeared. Bugger, bugger, bugger. Download this program and print your own: http://www.lottobreakers.com.au/dogsoft/ It is free and I love it. Makes it so much easier as once you have entered al the dogs details and numbers etc you don't have to put them in everytime. Only thing is it seems to default to ACT for state when printing unless you print from the rpint preview screen.

Some good stories there I think from what has been written that 1 of the differences to most dog parks is these areas were unfenced so people had to have their dogs under control. There is a group not far from here that informally gather to walk each morning at a large park. There are playgrounds, BBQ areas and a creek to swim in. There can be upto 15 dogs there and never a problem. Other people walking, bike riders and joggers as well. But as it is a very open area all under effective verbal control - no way you would run them there otherwise. Due to work I can't get there but the few times I have it has been lovely - none of the dogs have swarmed the "newcomers" and if any did look they were going to they were calmly called away. They haven't been acting as a pack - some just walk next to their person, others go off sniffing the bushes and trees, some in and out of the water etc. It is great. If only there were more places like it.

Any idea on what types of bones Pet Cafe has and approximate prices?

Dova, there is always someone at a trial that will watch crated dogs for you and Gawler has trees along 2 fences that provide good shade as well as a few in the parking area plus some people use the football club verandah for shade as well. Apparently the cool change is due between 2 and 6p so it could end up being quite a pleasant evening. I was going to drop in to the show at Evanston then the trial but have now been invited out to a non dog event. First time in 5 or 6 years I haven't been doing dog stuff for NYE

This is my first reply but I have been checking this thread each morning and afternoon. Fingers crossed from here that it is an infection and they are able to get on top of it.

A friend of mine has the Bunnings sandpit for her son and when I first saw it I said it would make a great whelping box and she said that was her thought as well. LOL. Jazz has her started title on sheep for A course (we only run A course in SA, no access to a large enough area for B course as yet) and has 1 pass on ducks. She is a stunning worker - all of her passes on sheep have been High in Trials, her first run she scored 99 from a possible 100. Her duck run is her worst ever pass with 87 and that was Runner up High in Trial to my experienced girl Piper by half a point. She is not overly switched on when showing - I need to work on making it more fun with her, entering some shows so we can do that would be a good start She just goes through the motions when she is out there. She will never be a super show dog but she will be a lovely foundation bitch, her health test results are all excellent, she has a fabulous temperament, work style and ethic and is sound and well put together. She lacks the finishing off things - all the major stuff is there

I got my old boy done at about that age - I don't feel it created much change but felt it was betteer in the long run. I had heard of other dogs from similar lines having issues with prostrate as they got older so decided having it done before he had problems was preferable for everyone.
-
Seriously I am neither clever or motivated, lol. It was REALLY easy - including the time finding htings in Bunnings it took around an hour. When you are on a tight budget you get good at being inventive I kind of lurk in here - Jazz is over 2 now but I only showed her maybe 3 times in the last year and before that maybe 10 times. I hope to get her out more next year. Mind you I also want to continue her herding and obedience and start agility so time will become a factor.

I should have read on before answering Oh well info is ther for any other newbie short on money and needing a grooming table I should add they last well as well. Mine has been going for about 3 years but a friend and I made hers the same way about 6 or 7 years ago.
-
I made my grooming table and didn't cost much or take much work. Go to Bunnings - they sell fold up trestle legs for about $20 - $30 depending on style. Then go to timber section and buy a precut sheet of ply they come in 900 x 600mm I think and different thickness timber, I think mine is 6mm. Next go to the area where they have rolls of matting and lino etc and get a piece of pyramid or other non slip matting. Then go to the adhesives section and find a glue to stick the matting to the ply. Take stuff home and assemble The trestle legs I got came with screws, only 4 per leg so a total of 8 to put in. It was really easy, the only thing I would say iscarefully select your ply - mine is a bit warped. Finding everythin in Bunnings probably took longer than assembling. Bad luck about the show trolley

Question For Volunteer Instructors
piper replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
You get to a point you need to put yourself and your own dogs first or you burn out. Been there, done that. I instructed 1 or 2 sessions a night for about 5 years in obedience and then for about 2 years also instructed another night for agility. It got to the point I would find if others were away I would feel bad for people that turned up to train and getting stuck in large classes so I would offer to take an extra session so my own dog's training started to suffer. At that point I stepped down. I know of other people who end up joining another club to train as they are too busy when instruction to work their own dogs. I think if you are at that point then it is time to say to the club that you need time for your own dogs. -
Obedience Classes In Adelaides North
piper replied to Lordcookie's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Para Districts are probably your best bet in that area if you want to move onto agility as well. They train obedience on Sunday mornings and Agility on Friday nights. No idea what the classes are actually like as I have never done obedience there and only did agility at Para briefly about 5 years ago (in trialing classes so not early training stages). They are at the end of Saints Rd, Salisbury. Not sure the exact street name but best way I can explain it is if you head down Saints Rd from Oain North Road, the road does a 90 degree turn to the left but there is a little no through road straight ahead - you go down there. One of the dog parks is down there and I think it is sign posted. No idea of current fees, if you go to www.dogssa.com.au they have a listing of contact numbers for clubs. -
World Dog Games On Ch 7 Right Now

I guess if they qualify then they will be represented. Given there are not many of them participating in some of the sports this reduces their chances of being represented. -
World Dog Games On Ch 7 Right Now
piper replied to shoemonster's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That's what I was thinking! lol, I was quite disappointed at the lack of other breeds, I was however very happy to see a toller in there. It would have been nice to have other breeds than just collies in most of those sports though, these sports are supposed to be for any dog but it felt like I was watching the world border collie games, not the world dog games. No offence to ppl who own them but it was even noted by my oh and his best friend who half way through went "and what breed is this OH WAIT! its ANOTHER border collie, seriously is that the only dog that can do these????" and those two don't really know much about dogs in the first place. My understanding is there were qualifying events to get into the World Dog Games, so if that is what got it, that is what got in. I didn't see it (thanks to a stupid blackout) but thought from comments on here that there were a fair few other breeds represented. I believe the dock dogs had 2 GSPs and a toller off the top of my head and there was small dog agility that I can't imagine would have been all BCs. -
The 2 Susan Garret 1s already mentioned as well as 2x2 weaving. Greg Derret - Foundation Handling skills followed by Great Dog, Shame about the handler.
