  1. According to the regs it is a temporary discount but I suspect that once they tick the box then that is that.
  2. You do need to go to training to continue to get the discount, I am fairly certain a puppy certificate can only be accepted when they are first registered. It does not have to be a DogsSA aaffiliated club though, private trainers can also be accpeted by the Dog and Cat Management Board and provided with the approved certificate. For people having problems over that last couple of years getting the discount - I think that is the problem - anything different to the standard certificate throws them in a spin. I have not put my youngest through formal levels but luckily the club I have been involved with over the years were happy to sign a certificate for me after seeing me at training with her once.
  3. Don't forget to go back and reward in position. I reward in position more often than I release to a toy/equipment as I want the dog to know that staying still is what is rewarded. Too much releasing to a reward without rewarding in position could lead to a dog that starts to anticipate and break as that is how it gets the good things.
  4. The only issue with the guy near Gawler is he is a crop farmer so has times when he is not available due to cropping or harvesting. He is a kelpie man though (Actually both trainers are kelpie owners).
  5. Oh excellent news And must be pleasing for you seeing his progeny develop.
  6. I'm home and had fun, so did Jazz. She did some good stuff and needed some reminders too but not surprised about that. Thrilled with her cast though, we had to go collect the sheep out of the paddock and she did a much better job than I expected bringing them in. Weasels, there is a private trainer in Meadows and another near Gawler. Today I went out to the place we have access to for trials and basically hired the sheep for an hour or so as the owner knows me, my dogs and my skill level so is happy for me to do so by myself. He doesn't run lessons or anything there though. Here is a short video of her fetching sheep out of the paddock:
  7. Ah, that things that excite. I get to go train on sheep today!! It has been over 12 months since Jazz has had a training opportunity on sheep. Going to be back to basics and some remedial work I think after her poor effort on ducks last weekend. Jazz is a beautiful worker to watch, lovely style but she has big gaps in her training due to lack of opportunities to train and the fact that she has so been such a natural worker that it was easy to let her go through the levels without really working on things. Now I am finding when on the ducks that she won't come off balance or stresses when I ask her to and ends up dive bombing them. Of course working towards intermediate we really need to work through this.
  8. I talked to other breeders of my breed that I respect and whose opinions I value and went with that. They told me slightly higher than I was going to ask and initially I cringed about it but I never had a problem from people enquiring when I stated the price (except 1 idiot who tried to barter but I think they would have done that if the price had been half what it was, they got a 1 word no to their barter attempt and did not contact me again, lol)
  9. 8382 3666 is the number for Southern Animal Hospital - the main clinic they own and they are open til 8 on a Sunday but often there later.
  10. We found with Jazz (and her recent litter of once they reached 8 weeks and we were down to just a couple of pups) that if we let her sleep all evening she would end up wide awake and screaming when it was bed time, if however we got her up an hour before bed and played lots of games and kept her busy she would go to sleep quickly and quietly. Nights where we did not wake her for a play session she would then be unsettled at some stage during the night.
  11. I was at herding training today and a kelpie breeder and good friend of Danny;s was there. I was going to ask her more info but forgot. She knows Dustan well and is the 1 that said she could pick the different dogs when she watched it. If I recall correctly 1 was used more for still work and promo stuff (I guess that would be Koko?) and the other for the more active stuff, I guess similar to a stunt double for people.
  12. This is the dol profile for the SA dog that was used: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/profile.asp?dog=23176 His owner is/was a member on here.
  13. Jr_inoz, 2 dogs are used for the role. Koko is not the one that you are thinking of. I am fairly sure Danny said his dog was not credited. But apparently if you know either of the dogs it is easy to pick who does what.
  14. LOL. I had 1 that I could not work out HOW she was getting out of the puppy yard. She was climbing the bougainvillea to a small hole their mother had created and somersaulting out of it to enjoy the full yard. The embarrassing part was before I knew how she was doing it and I had puppy buyers visiting and they said "isn't there a puppy with a dark face?" So I did a head count, yep 1 short and promptly excused myself to go find her. Their reaction was "isn't she such a clever girl" , said with an adoring smile. And just as well as 2 weeks later that is who they took home. Most recent update was telling me it took her 2 days to work out how to escape the area they had created for her and their reply was still "she is such a smart little puppy." I'm just glad I found a home that appreciates the little monster and have warned them she will keep them on their toes for life. LOL
  15. I recently used him to get a pup to Sydney and was very impressed with his service and price. 2 other companies never even bothered to get back to me with a quote. And Wayrod's price for transport was significantly cheaper than the 1 company I did get a quote from. In the end it cost about the same to buy a brand new pp40 crate from him, have it shipped to Adelaide for me and then transport the puppy to Sydney as it did just for transport without a crate with the other company. And this way the owner had a crate that would last a few weeks for the puppy. He even sent it to Adelaide already with newspaper in the bottom and water bowl and funnel attached It was there at freight set up, ready to go and waiting for me when I arrived with puppy. Definitely gets my thumbs up and will happily use him again.
  16. I looked at those plastic sets but the spacing was different to competition spacing so I decided not to get them. I figured the footwork on 50cm gaps would be quite different to on 60cm gaps. I would be interested in hearing how others have gone transferring from 1 size gap to another though - did you lose speed/reliability? I would like some nice lightweight free standing 1s. Mine are bang in the ground so a pain to set up and pack up.
  17. Jazz would play that game all day as well only she doesnt hold another toy while playing. LOL Her oddity with holding a toy is she likes to greet me with a "woo woo woo" when i get home but this can only be done with suitable toy in her mouth and she will run madly to find 1 then come and stand in front of me and give a "woo woo woo" around the toy
  18. I had hassles with it the other week when doing my first couple of pups. I would fill in the whole form, hit submit and it would drop me back to the main page. After the second pup doing that I called them (which was also an effort as 1 of the numbers on their webpage no longer belongs to them - I got through using the horse number!!) and they checked, neither had gone through. She said to me to close my browser then start again and if it still didn't work to email them with all of the questions and answers to them for each pup. After I restarted the browser I had no hassles but it was good to know I could email it if the online form didnt work.
  19. Most definitely I dont think the official membership form is ready yet. We are aiming to allow for direct deposit of membership fees given that the club will be spread all over the state so I think they will be given out once we have account details.
  20. Sorry, it's been a mad couple of weeks here with 9 puppies heading off to new homes so I haven't been online much. We have some training happening tomorrow but not sure if there are still any spots available. The club has formed but we don't yet have any regular training days as we haven't sorted insurance out yet. Basically the constitution is done, incorporation is done, an interim committee has been decided upon. We are now in the process of opening a bank account and gaining affiliation with DogsSA. It is not a quick process but hopefully we will be in full swing next year.
  21. Glad you found it Sway. I was going to say you have my sympathies - I have 2 identical looking plaited leather lead but 1 had stayed hard and the other is so beautiful and soft to handle and just a brilliant leather quality. But do you think I can remember where I got which lead, nope!
  22. I use proplan and black hawk myself combined with raw food for my guys at the moment. in the past when I have had times where the dollars have been tight I have also used Uncle Albers and Coprice. They did better on Coprice than Uncle Albers but still looked fine on either, just the output and volume fed is less with pro plan and black hawk. You will hear so many answers to this question but in reality the best kibble is the 1 your dog best on and that you can afford to fee. Some dogs do brilliantly on 1 type of food and terribly on another so there is no perfect answer to this question.
  23. I love my Mars Coat King. I don't use it that much these days but when I had my old boys it was fantastic and they seemed to object to it less than other tools. I could get double the coat out in half the time with a lot less stress to me and them. Mine is I think the standard 10 blade 1. I still use it these days mostly on Piper. It is not something used all the time, I probably only use it on her twice a year just to give the coat a good strip out. I have used it on Jazz when she is blowing coat just to speed up the process with her pants and tail. And $30 is nothing compared to paying for a groomer, the time it saves and the price of other grooming tools. I paid a lot more than that for mine when I got it as you could only get it from the lady who imported them. They are much easier to get now.
  24. I just learnt that lesson too Britt. Although 6 of my 9 did go to people who contacted me before the litter was born or in the first week and all were happy to wait and take the puppy I said they could have. I had heaps and heaps of enquiries though that were trying to tell me what they want or that I said I would be in touch with and most ended up having found something else so I was left finding homes for 2 puppies. The weirdest 1s I had were the lady who rang to find out about Aussie Shepherds and if they were suitable for her - umm I breed border collies. And her yes I know and we are considering those but want to know more about Aussies. Well ring an Aussie breeder!! And then the 1 that contacted me about my available girl and when i replied 24 hours later that I did not think she was suitable for her but had a boy that I thought might be a good match she replied with "oh we aren't ready for a pup now, we are looking for in a few months." Well you contacted me about the puppy I had advertised as ready to go!!!
