Asked To Leave The Field For Prong Collar Use
piper replied to davidthedogman's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was under the understanding that they were not allowed at ANKC affiliated clubs at all? Never actually seen it writing though but then I have never actually looked. -
I have a medium and love it. It holds a camera with lens attached as well as another lens or 2 and external flash.
-
Or $1244 from here http://www.eglobaldigitalcameras.com.au/canon-eos-7d-body-only-digital-slr-cameras.html I have bought a camera body and lens in 2 separate transactions with these guys and had no hassles with service or communication at all.

I have a Rogz one that is double ended with I think 3 or 4 rings along it. It isn't round though but it is really convenient.

Yep definitely keep feeling boobs for any little lumps. Jazz had a pea sized lump in a boob and a raised temp, was given an antibiotic shot and oral abs and even with getting it that early by the next day I could cup my hand over it. If you feel 1 starting to get firm place a pup on to have a good feed. I smiled at your pics - they are like looking at baby bc faces

What about Helen - a member on here with Brittanys. Her photos are gorgeous and I think I have seen her put up photos from shows she has shot before.
-
Jazz at the moment has 0 value for the tunnel - she doesn't seem to consider it an obstacle. It is hard work getting her to do that and having had a tunnel suck dog before I'm not too worried about making it fun just yet - I'm sure she will work it out.. The dog walk however we only had out at full height for the second time tonight and she did a 180 away from me to go run the dog walk. LOL

Thanks, I think that was the 1 I was trying to remember. If not Ness PMd me another 1 as well. Checked out Statikpaws too

Ok, I think it was in this thread that all the links for the various tug leads were posted. I have had a scan but no luck finding them. I know 1 was static paws and that was posted a couple of pages ago but I remember a discussion and quite a few links being put up. Does anyone have them? Now that I am actually training Jazz regularly I would like to get her a nice matingale all in 1 lead to make life easier.

Youtube Channel With Good Training Videos

Yes I did mention doing some scent stuff as well but not that game in particular. Will tell them, thanks Fortunately they are doing such a great job that they can already start short on lead walks. -
Becks, they do only they are called reptile heat lamp stands. This is identical to what I used http://www.petco.com/product/5011/Zoo-Med-Reptile-Lamp-Stand.aspx I placed it so the whelping box sat on the base plate and then was able to adjust the height of the arm as well as how far over the box it went. As the box sat on the base it was very very stable. Eta - stupid phone for double post and typos. Grrr.

Best Way To Set Up Dog Bath At Home
piper replied to Zug Zug's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I would say either a hydrobath with a ramp and also a table insert so that your little dog is raised or alternatively a booster bath http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/230659578079?hlp=false Either way if getting a plumber in, I would get hot water plumbed to where you will have it set up. -
My first thought was dobe as well and if not wanting scary, what about a red and tan? Friends of mine have a black and a red and people's reactions are totally different to the 2 of them. The black dog is big and scary yet most do not realise the red is exactly the same breed and comment what a lovely dog she is.

Youtube Channel With Good Training Videos
piper replied to piper's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Kikopup was the 1 I was trying to remember, thanks I agree it is not about doing them perfectly. These guys are new to training and just need things to do with a 3 month old border collie on confinement due to a fracture. It is as more for mental stimulation and developing relationship and I think they will really take to it and have a lot of fun. I had already suggested basic targetting, opening and closing cupboard doors, nodding, shaking head, drop with head down, paw over face, cross paws. The injury is in a hind leg so things like beg and spin are out. I started off trying to type out how to train some of them and then decided videos would be much easier for them -
1 of the puppies from my last litter has had an unfortunate accident while playing that has resulted in a broken leg and a 3 month old border collie puppy needing to be kept quiet. The owners are lovely and absolutely devastated about what has happened and are looking for ideas of things to do to stop her going stir crazy. I have suggested they do some clicker training and train some fun tricks and thought as they are beginner trainers that it would be helpful to send them some video links. There are so many out there though so I figured I would ask here if anyone knows any good channels on youtube that would be worth sending them. I am looking for info on clicker training, target training and any tricks. I know I have seen lots of good videos posted here so am hoping someone can help me.

Waffles, what you have said about the dog even knowing it is ON the mat is what I was going to say. When I was first taught how to train a dog to go out to a target it was by someone who works with exotic animals as well as having trained animals for TV work and she said they always start with something with a very different texture so the animal can really FEEL it and then afterwards they put it on cue then generalise it to other surfaces. The suggestion was not to use something that is a familiar feel to the animal so for a dog living in a house carpet would not be a novel texture. She said she most often used corrugated cardboard as it was cheap, lightweight and feels distinctly different to carpet, grass, dirt, cement etc. So Whisked Away have you thought about starting again with something that is a totally different texture and shape it, do not lure it right from when you introduce the target. Another suggestion made was when clicking throw the treat to the other side of the mat, most dogs if they are used to being rewarded in front of you will then run back across the mat to get back to you at which point you click their feet on it and throw the treat back etc. Oh another thing was to make it LARGE initially, like 1m x 1m, especially if using the throw treat away method, if it is too small they just go around it. Piper when first trained would actively avoid the surface, I hadn't thought I would need a large ground target for her but apparently I did! Once I made it large and difficult to avoid she got it quickly.

A couple of my bigger boys were doing that in the first week or so and I worried they would become swimmers as well. All I would do was when I went in if they were laying like that and sleeping was to either bring their legs forward or roll them onto their sides. I also found they were at the milk bar the most so would take them off and put them the other side of the box a few times a day. I don't know if they would have become swimmers or not, but I figured they were a couple of easy things to do that couldnt do any harm and might just help. Both pups were up and walking about the same time as the rest of the litter.

Hand Raising A Pup And Need Ideas For More Weight Gain?

I believe the little 1 was given it's wings Alyosha -
I have an adjustable height stand with an adjustable length arm. My heat lamp connects into a lamp shade looking thing which has a hook on top of it. So I hook the shade onto the stand and can move it in and out, up and down to alter how much of the box is getting heat over it and also how much heat by varying the height.. The shade thng is actually a reflector to deflect heat back into a box. The whole assembly came from a reptile supply store but I have also seen the reflector shade thing (technical term, lol!) available in farm type stores. It remnds me of what I have seen in poultry sheds. I have to say I found my guys very rarely used it. I never found them asleep under it no matter how I had it set up, I did find though that if I felt in he box the air was warmer all around that corner not just under it so they probably still got the benefit of it. The side of the box near the door though was not warm at all so Jazz didn't seem bothered by it at all - she just always laid in the same area away from it to feed.

Fingers crossed that she has a tummy full of gas and nothing more. You will never be so glad to have a vet bill if that is all it is.

I knew I was expecting a large litter with my girl and her being a maiden I was concerned about feeding so I made some of this up when she was in early labour to have ready if I needed to hand feed any of the pups.. She did a great job and I never needed to supplement feed but I gave what I had made to her and she loved it. I continued to give it to her until the pups were a couple of weeks old as I figured I knew she was getting plenty of calories with it and it encouraged her to drink as well. Then when the puppies were ready for their first meals I made some more up and used it with mince for their first meals.

I'm disappointed with how difficult it is to get in SA There were a couple of other distributors on the webpage before but only 1 now. Mind you neither of the other 2 were overly helpful when I contacted them and then 1 that is listed has none in stock, can't tell me when she will have more in stock and was not interested in contacting me when any came in I like the food and want to feed it but am about to say stuff it, it is too difficult and get something else.

Leopuppy, The heat lamp and stand I used came from a place that sold reptile supplies. It is an adjustable height stand and is also easily pivoted so I could alter how much heat they were getting by how high/low the lamp was and how far over the box I had it. The lamp itself is a ceramic globe that gives out no light but I think I would do the same as a friend and get 1 of the red 1s next time so when checking in the middle of the night you can see without turning the lights on.

Level 3 Obedience Training Certificate?
piper replied to JB1824's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
12 months training to heel 5 meters, sit within 3 attempts, recall on lead 1m within 3 attempts, 10 second stay on lead? I know young puppies that can reliably do that and not just those with experienced handlers. I do like the trained dog discount idea but expected when they said grade 3 obedience that the expectations would be greater. I would have thought the recall should have been at least 10m on a long line to really be a recall. And it is the thing that creates most problems out and about - people unable to call dog back away from others. So even better would be 10m recall with distractions.
