Interesting link Steve. Makes you wonder about the increase in problems we seem to hear about and intervention that is needed. I had my first litter last year - 9 pups, free welled, healthy, good weights. Never an issue with them. I don't use any monthly spot ons at all. I treat for an issue when we have an issue ad try and use as little as possible and nt something designed to work for a whole lot of things. The stud dog owner is the same. I have no reason for any of this other than using all those chemicals seemed excessive and I felt it can't be good for them. So maybe there was more to my successful litter than just good luck.... What really concerned me with your link was the mention of changes to DNA.

I have never found the need either Nehkbet. Without looking we would never even know Jazz is in, she is so meticulously clean (and in fact it was the increased cleaning that alerted me to this season). Piper was the same when she was entire.

Border Collies And Poultry
piper replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I was thinking the same as DeltaCharlie - chooks don't flock. Turkeys apparently do though. I would recommend starting on sheep if you can, even if you can only get to a weekend workshop to help you understand the basics. -

Do you have a nice photo? My friend got me 1 of these for Christmas with my 2 girls on and I LOVE it. The detail is amazing. http://www.keepsakej...g-p/pesstkr.htm This isnt who she got it through but I cant find the details of the place she got it. Same style thing though. jr_inoz, I think if you search the health forum you will find info on apple cider vinegar being used as an ear cleaner and I imagine that would be safe (you may want to do some researching and check to be sure - I have never needed it or someone with more experience will hopefully see and answer). As for going to the vet if needed - I wouldn't hesitate to take an animal requiring treatment to the vet, pregnant or not. I would however make it very clear on booking that she is pregnant and double check on any treatment recommended and it's safety.

Yes they definitely allow the use of food. Beyond that I cant answer much, I have been there but it was a long time ago. The people I know that train there all use food in training and a mixture of soft and slip collars I believe. It used to be a lovely friendly club, not too big and class sizes quite reasonable. Hopefully you will find it is still the case :)

Trisven, How are those fauves going?? We must be due for photos again :)

Would you not get a vet check to see if it is a simple reason as to why the mating did not occur? Such as with my girl and her stricture (which is another inexperienced vet story - the vet who checked her was a fool and did not find it, it was found when we went for the fresh AI with a repro vet)? And then decide to AI or not based on the outcome of that.

Wayrod here too :) If the $700 is for both of them I think it sounds about right. Also depends if you are hiring a crate or providing your own.

here is a detailed write up of 1 way of getting it: http://www.sue-eh.ca/page24/page40/

Sorry Piper I didnt check I just looked for words Thats fine, I was surprised it wasnt taken when I tried for it. I played with google translator and words that that I thought of when describing a border collie. So could do same with cocker. I think the word Merry gets used a lot so here are some translations for merry: Alegre, Lustlik, Lystig, Sugach, Emeche, Lorem, Hilarus, Alacer, Lawen No idea if any of those are taken. But hopefully it gives you some useful ideas.

You definitely won't get ildanach - that is my prefix and picked for it's meaning :) My next choice with a similar meaning was veyatie.

We paid 300 for our first border collie in 1994. Piper in 2001 was 500 in MR. The going price now is 900 - 1000. Although some people pay stupid amounts for non black and whites from people breeding for colour and money and often not fully health tested. I had someone wanting to pay 3000 for my one non black and white puppy - no!

I don't think the 18-200 is as big a lens as the 70 - 200 2.8 though. At least in the sony version it isn't.

I'm not sure how sheep would go with the humidity up there. But ducks and cattle would be doable I would think. Maybe contact the QLD Working sheepdog Assoc (or whatever they are called up there) and ask them, they might be able to at least give you details of a member up that way who knows more.

Yes some dogs are mentally unbalanced and that can mean aggression. I have seen young puppies with extreme aggression and ok a lot of training might improve it but I doubt you would ever feel safe with them. I do agree though that the vast majority are a product of their environment. That is the best list of aggressive dog types I have seen :)

I haven't been I the situation but if it were my bitch, I woild like you to ring and discuss it (mind you I would probably be a pain and contact you daily to see how she is anyway, lol) I personally would want a prog test and depending on the result and if needed an ai. I would also be happy to cover expenses incurred including your fuel for running her around. I think the owner of the bitch is the only one that can really guide you as to what to do with their dog.

Hopefully someone from QLD will come in and comment but from chatting with a BC person near Cairns, she said she has always wanted to but has never found anywhere. It would be great if someone knows a place because I will pass it on if they do :)

Snook, I vote for the teal :) I had photoshop open and kept trying different swatches on there so I could put them next to each other. It was interesting how I would think something would go, change 1 thing and then see another option. Good luck!! I am sure it will be fabulous regardless.

Someone posted this link in the kindle thread but I noticed they have nice camera bags too. http://www.etsy.com/...tion_id=6585125 I don't think they are as deep as the porteen gear bags though. Still love my custom Porteen Gear bag and 12 months on it is still in perfect condition so I can;t justify another 1 but I do like some of these designs. Might need to get a laptop bag instead...

I'm not great at them but am back to playing with photoshop and wanting to try out a couple of new tricks to see if they make things easier than the way I did do things so if you want to post some pics Teebs I will give it a go.

I forgot about that. thanks for the reminder!! Will have to ask hubby about ti again. My concern is how dog savvy people will be and how much space there is. Piper doesnt like dog's in her face but it sounds like such a fun night and a totally awesome idea.

It is hard to be taken as seriously as you intend when you do this....

That's the words. I could probably do it easier with Jazz than with Piper as she has a MUCH better stop (the things we learn from the first dog - PIper's stops suck) but I dont want to just get through by effectively blocking escape routes - I would like her to drive properly especially now we have started running B course over here. The other method is ok in A course where there is a fence line to help for much of it but I cant see it being effective in a big open paddock.
