What about the kind of pink slushies that puppies get started on? I used mince and rice cereal inititally and then went to mince, porridge made with goats milk (could just use lactose free milk or even water) yoghurt and egg. You could also do veggie pulp like for barf patties and give him most of the veggie juice with just a bit of pulp stirred through with the mince and other stuff. Royal canin starter mousse? I havent used it but going by it's name I would imagine it is slush. Or soak his usual kibble in hot water and then blend or mash it. Poor boy, fingers crossed he recovers quickly.

I wonder how you would go under consumer rights - the whole goods fit for sale/purpose kind of thing. It makes me so angry what you have had to go through and then for them to not even refund purchase price is disgusting!!

Congratulations!! Didn't he also get runner up or did I remember that wrong? I was amazed when I read the post on Facebook about the number of trialling dogs - I really thought there would be more in Victoria.

Superminty - I believe you have a brag??? :)
-
Um I would have to look into that - I am not sure that it is allowed or allowed without seeking permission first anyway. There was talk of me doing my prac in Vic at 1 stage and that was going to create huge issues. I'll PM you my email address, we have an herding advisory meeting tomorrow night and I can bring it up there if you email me a few details :)

Weasels, SA is DESPERATE for judges, we would well and truly support and assist someone wanting to train as a judge. In SA we do it as test levels first and then course by course usually starting with A course (well so far always starting with A course as until recently it is all that we ran). Here is an album I have on Facebook of a duck herding day we held http://www.facebook....0816.700954050/ And this is a pic of Piper taken by someone else that same day, eta: The picture in my signature of Jazz was her first time ever on ducks at about 6 or 8 months of age.

Pleased to hear the changes are working out for you and much safer for your little man's long term health. :)

Sounds like a very good day!! Cant complain about 5 from 6 a HIT and a title. Congratulations. :)

LOL, that is so me with sheep. Ducks do fetch, just not quite the same as sheep. I do recall standing in a trial arna with it oging pear shaped and ducks at my feet, dog at 12 o'clock whinging "They're not supposed to do this!" :)

Well done!! And good luck for tomorrow. Jane is lovely and very encouraging:) It is funny how dogs are different - Jazz can manage to hold a line and drive ducks but battles with sheep. LOL

My vet would also be very strongly against gaiting a dog for a prolonged period as well and would refer to it as "forced exercise" and not suitable for dogs under 12 months and preferably not under 18 months. And for what it's worth he would even recommend against footpath walking on lead more than 10 minutes a couple of times a week as well. The difference between free exercise and the types of exercise your pup is getting is that in free exercise the pup dictates the speed and direction and if you watch you will see that when free running and playing your pup does not move consistently at the same sped. But instead speeds up, slows down, pauses. A border collie will usually keep going as long as you ask it to so just because it can keep up and look like it can stay with you easily does not mean that it should. As well as that is the fact that others have stated - the more exercise you give, the more exercise they need. My guys very very rarely get taken for a walks (as in put on lead and taken around the block type of thing) and I am yet to own a destructive, bored border collie. Instead they get free exercise (trips to parks they can run at off leash and even this is not a daily activity and is usually only on weekends), trips to training, regular training at home etc. They are a smart dog and mental stimulation is the first thing they get.

I use a cheap knock off of a dremel from Bunnings - an Ozito 1. It was about $40 and came with a heap of accessories and is variable speed. The only thing I find about dremeling as opposed to clipping is it takes a bit longer but I prefer it anyway as the finish is better and less chance of injuring the dog, especially if they have black nails.

I hope there wont be. I am quite sure it will be spectacular - she will ace it or be spectacularly bad. LOL. I'm not sure how she will go with the environment, she hasn't been to many agility trials and also does not often have dogs running near her so I have to hope she will cope with that too. Although I think the grounds we are at are not as bad as others for distance between rings. Oh and then there will be MY nerves to contend with, I think it has been about 6 years since I last entered an agility trial.

Well I have just done Jazz's first trial entries. She was measured last night so I finally have her height card. Now to hope I am over my shoulder surgery enough by the trial date to actually be able to run her well. She has been ready for jumping for ages now but I needed to get her measured and then decided not to bother entering until after my surgery. When I had her at training last night for measuring there was a ,asters level jumping course up and I thought I would give it a go with her and aside from leaving me in pain I was thrilled with how she ran it, especially given she was getting very limited signals (fortunately it was a mainly right handed course and it was my left shoulder operated on). She has also not had a lot of exposure to tyres, spreads and broad jumps and did a nice lead out with a tyre at the start and completed the course clear. Wasn't timed but she was running quite fast and smooth so I imagine she would have been ok. I very rarely put her over full courses so most of the trial people had no idea what she could do and we got a few very positive comments at the end of the run. Hopefully she will hold it together just as well at her first trial although I think I jinxed myself on Facebook last night - I said she is a clean jumper and responsive to handling so without a doubt she will now knock bars and take an out of order!!

B course sheep you can actually be in the paddock. A course is normaly harder to get pics of up there. And I'm not positive where we will be doing ducks but f it is the areas I think then there will be good access for pics for those as well.

Love the bokeh and depth of field in your first shot :) And the depth of field and focus on the first husky is lovely too. I would say though to try and watch the ears, the tip of the ears missing detracts from them IMO. The pictures are not in tight enough that it looks like you have deliberately cropped them out. For your first day you have got some great shots. You are clearly going to have a lot of fun with your new toy :)

Yep - I'm on committee and I think I am judging as well plus running 2 dogs and donating the most versatile worker trophy :) I will be there all weekend - Piper and Jazz on B course ducks, Jazz on B course sheep. Piper on A course ducks and Jazz on A course sheep, might run her on A course ducks as well but the $$ start to add up a bit so will see how we go. She can work ducks beautifully and did a gorgeous run at the last trial but I am a bit unsure how she will go working them when the sheep are RIGHT there and the ducks are in paddocks that she knows the sheep are usually in, she has refused to work ducks before and gone looking for sheep but she has also had a lot more training and experience since then.

I've been waiting to see your pictures!!! :)

What is the other company offering it now Steve?

1 litter in 12 months seems more than enough IMO, if you haven't breached that rule with this litter why would you not include the insurance? My girl has a 10 month season, it didn't stop me using the insurance policy for my puppy buyers as I had no intention at all of giving her back to back litters and would probably only ever consider it if the bitch had whelped a very small litter and was in still excellent physical condition after weaning. Not to mention the fact that 6 months after the litter there is no way I was ready to go back through that again, it took ME a year to get over it, lol.

Great news that it is just a conjunctivitis and nothing else. :)

A Good Little Point And Click?
piper replied to Chris the Rebel Wolf's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
I had/have a coolpix as a point and shoot as well and hate it. Couldn't even tell you where it is now. I was never happy with the pics I got out of it. I wanted a handbag camera for times I didnt want to take the SLR and it was not a cheap coolpix either. I have played with various Canon point and shoot over the years though and have always thought they were quite good. -
Lollipup - another 1 to check is digitalrev although when I was looking they were not quite as cheap as DWI or Eglobal but still competitive. I have never heard of D-D Photographics sorry but they do look to have good prices.
-
How did you go at the vet Latoya?
-
I have been comparing between a few sites, the nerd in me even did a spreadsheet to compare them all Eglobal was cheaper in some things and not in others, and vice versa, but DWI came out cheapest overall. I think it was mainly the shipping fees. Ha ha! I did the same thing with the spreadsheet when I was researching and deciding where to buy everything from. So did I! LOL
