I went through similar with my girl on her first litter last year and was told by others way more experienced than me that she was probably uncomfortable with the uterus contracting and felt like she was in labour. I *think* it was buscopan that was suggested to settle this for her, as it was she settled herself so I never tried it. Hopefully someone will see this and will clarify further for you. Jazz never tried to move her puppies either but would go nuts digging as soon as I took her outside. If anything more frantic than she had been pre puppies.

Yes I have since found that out. Someone I have close links with too - my parents used to breed shelties and this person was my first ever obedience instructor back when I was about 12.

Great results rom them all!! What sort of dog is your plus 1? Is it anyone I know?

I agree but you are right - it is what it is.

I am sure that at Adelaide Royal regardless of if the Puppy in Group winner was also Best of Breed they could not go back as they have already been beaten as the puppy that beat them (if it was not best of breed) had already been beaten by a dog in the group line up. I hope that makes sense - it makes sense in my head but is hard to put into words. I agree Piper. That's what happened at Sydney. I'm just glad you understood it - it is hard to find a way to explain it. I read it back and thought no one would get it, lol.

Adelaide Northern Suburbs Show Training Classes
piper replied to steppenwolfstaffords's topic in General Dog Discussion
Never heard of 1 at Munno Para. Would be interested to hear the details if there was though. Gawler Dog Training Club used to (and may still do?) run them on a Monday evening and I dont't think you had to be a member to attend, just pay when you go. -
I found with my litter last year (my first too so I analysed everything!) that if they had a small weight gain 1 day they either had a big gain the day before or would have 1 the next day. The first few times it worried me when I would find only 20gm gained but then the next night I would find they had gained 120gm. In the end it all averaged out and they all doubled their birth weight in the space of about 36 hours.

Having just spent a reasonable amount of time researching this, I would say if you are flying then book through the airline but if you are not then book through a company such as Dogtainers, Jetpets, Animal Travel. Virgin tend to be cheaper than Qantas. Virgin charge for the weight, Qantas for the space. To give you an idea 1 quote I received from an transport company was $275 each way for BC in crate on Virgin or over $500 each way on Qantas as her crate size meant she was the equivalent of 60kg to them. Booking direct with Toll (Virgin's carrier) for an unaccompanied border collie and crate was just under $500 each way. Flying her accompanied would have been about $100 each way. The other thing with Virgin is oyu have to ring the customer contact number to book if you are booking an accompanied pet as well, usually there is a fee for this but if you look up the web page and tell them that you can see on screen it is x they will honour that an not charge the additional fee (at least that is what they have done each time for me, granted it hasn't been in the last year or 2 though so it may have changed.).

Well done Superminty!! Great way to end the year. I had hoped to have another crack at inter in our last trail for the year but Jazz has come into season early putting that plan to rest.

There was an entire pet centre with a variety of stalls downstairs in Angus Stirling (where the cars used to be). What area of the show grounds was it in?

My vets say between 25 and 30 days for the most accurate count.

Choking, Hacking? Urgent Urgent

+1 Some dogs reverse sneeze more often in allergy times of the year, so now is the time they might start if they are that way inclined. Yep, our beagle went through months of this last spring/summer and spent most of that time on antihistamines and at times cortisone when it was really bad. As soon as Autumn started it went away. Years ago 1 of my old border collies would do it when he had tonsilitis. -
Which Food For Border Collie Pup?
piper replied to Horsegal98's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use about 2/3 raw diet and the other third Proplan, In the past I have used Black Hawk and Eagle Pack as well. I have found for my guys they do best on Pro Plan. They are getting some Advance at the moment though as Jazz won some and they seem to be doing fine on that. My parents border is on Advance for 50% of his diet and looks fine. To be honest, none of the borders we have ever had have been difficult to keep. I cant think of a food I would say they have done badly on. We have even used Uncle Albers/Great Barko and they still looked fine (just much more to clean up outside!). I think the fact that they get over half raw food makes a difference to this as well though. Across a week they will get a few raw meaty bones (lamb, turkey or chicken mostly), some eggs, natural yoghurt, offal, sardines or other fish and a few dry food meals. Make the transition to the food you want to feed, give it time and see what you think and if it isn't working then give something else a go. And popping into the border collie thread with photos is a must . -
Well after talking with the vet and getting prices and opinions on everything we have decided to send her to the dog. Still amazes me that it costs as much each way as return for me when it is not school holidays! The best quote I have is $270 each way yet accompanied including my flight I could get her there for $250. Unfortunately the return home flight in school holidays was going to be close to double that. As she came in earlier than planned the vet felt there wasn't sufficient time to arrange frozen and the shipping of it and given the cost of chilled, shipping and AI was comparable to sending her, I decided to take the send her there option.

My goodness, what a difference. He looks like a totally different pony now.

Dont you hate it when you type a reply and lose it? I had just typed out something else I did wrong both trials was that I worried she wouldn't weave and ended up hovering right near by and baby sitting them. I would not do that at training and usually give her quite a bit of space so it is possible my own body pressure contributed to it. So I will be working on trying to give her more space in trials but also practicing with me hovering and hanging really close as there is not always a lot of space in trials. Have you seen the Succes With 1 Jump program? Some of that might help you to increase the value of jumps, I did some of the exercises with Jazz to make jumps in themselves more rewarding for her.
-
Aussielover, Have you done jump grids with her to work on her jumping skills? ALso have you looked at when she drops bars and what is happening? Often it is a poorly timed turn cue or command by the handler that causes the bar to come down. As for the running to contacts - Piper and Jazz both went through that phase. Correct contacts are usually rewarded highly and the contact behaviour has normally been practiced and rewarded over and over and over so it becomes a high value obstacle. I found both of mine worked out that if they did it when not asked it was not rewarded and got over it. As to the weavers, well we have only done 2 trials and failed both times with the weavers so I am looking forward to responses to that. I think in my case it might be the metal base as she has entered and started to weave both times and then stopped. My poles at home dont have a metal base and depending on which 1s we have up at training they may or may not have a base, and then we dont do weaving at the club very often so she has only done poles with the metal base a couple of times. I never had an issue with Piper but 10 years ago all of the clubs down here were still using stick in the ground weavers so they were the same as she had at home and she was also a lot more equipment motivated than Jazz anyway.

My girl has just come into season early, throwing me into a spin and am currently planning her mating. We have an appointment at a repro specialist on Monday for prog testing and a chat on the different methods but I am curious, when using a dog interstate these days, do people prefer to send the bitch for a natural mating or fresh AI if needed), have chilled semen sent or frozen? Also curious on the costs of chilled and frozen. I have a feeling in comparison to flying a dog there and back it is possibly quite similar (not including the actual AI fee). I have discussed a couple of possible option with the stud dog owner and as I said have an appointment with the repro vet Monday morning so this is more food for thought for me to consider over the wekend :)

The photographer that shot our wedding mentioned that as 1 of his favourite lenses. Sad that nearly 3 years later I can remember discussing lenses with him during our photos, lol.

That was an even bigger brag than I was expecting Dova!! Well done, most definitely worth the drive for you. I was fairly sure you and Izzi would have no hassles with started B and inter A given how well she was working last time I saw her. I will have to try and go over there sometime, would love to try out cattle although I think Jazz would be too gentle for them. Piper would have liked them in her day I think.

They look awesome! I have thought about a pod but have the wonky shoulder issue as well. There is no way I would manage to get a gazebo up into a roof pod. I prefer the dogs in the car too and these look like a good alternative solution to a dog trailer loaded with stuff.
