Well after a very long day an a non productive night, Jazz started to get extremely distressed and anxious at about 10pm. Contractions were not very strong and not very regular and the longer it went the more stressed she became. So at 10:30 we headed to the clinic close to home. They do full after hours emergency. 10:45 the decision was made that we would need to do a c-section. Just after 11pm the first puppy exited and gave me an OMG moment as I thought damn it I only have 2 and I have 1 with a full white head!!! But then the rest of him emerged and nope, we had a red and white boy. I was busy getting him going and my friend was handed pup number 2 - a black and white girl. Not as smooth or easy sailing as the litter of 9 was but we have 2 healthy pups and a healthy Mum and that is the important bit. I can highly recommend for anyone in SA needing after hours support the Blakes Crossing vet clinic. Service was good and the prices are extremely reasonable for an after hours c-section. There will be pics later, I am a bit lacking in sleep and Jazz is still a bit anxious so I don't want to disturb her too much. She is a very attentive mum once again.

Temp was a full degree lower this morning and I have so far removed her from under 2 bushes and behind the lounge. LOL So sometime tonight is my guess! She was booked in for a progesterone test this morning but I rang them and said she is now at 36.5 and nesting so they agreed it was not worth it as it is obviously dropping and ring tomorrow morning if no action tonight. Right now I have installed the baby gate and shut her in the room with the whelping box. Lights are off and the room is nice and cool so I am leaving her be for a while to just relax in there.

Ah ok, well it is sounding promising at least. And a break from the smelly farts has got to be good, lol.
-
Will it bo tonight or tomorrow? We have a half degree temp change (not signifcant yet I know, waiting to recheck it) and now grumbling at the other dogs and guarding me.
-
Other than the gum ulcers that is all sounding promising and would be 1 of the longer periods that Mandela has remained well on a food wouldn't it?
-
Exactly!! I mean how can we not get all of that in the 1 package easily???? LOL Still no temp drop. I have had a word with ehr and asked for it in about 6 hours as I will then be home from work and it should mean whelping in a reasonable hour of the day tomorrow, lol. Will be ringing the repro vet today for a chat to double check instructions of when they think I need to get her checked if nothing has happened. Suspect we may pop in tomorrow morning for a progesterone test.

How is Mandela going now Erny? Still doing well on Augustines?

I so hate this waiting! I have to say they are active little bugger. I only ever felt tiny movements with the last litter. I guess with 9 there was no room for running around. These guys fell like they are having a party in there. I think they are going to hit the ground running the way they are working those legs. LOL We have joked I should sell them for more as they have been to an agility seminar with an international presenter and been "started" on sheep as well. Amazing what can be done from in the womb.

Bigger than I expected with only 2 but nothing at all like she was with 9. She has gained between about 3.5 and 4kg since mating but some of that is condition. She was about 16.5kg when I mated her which is about 1kg under where she normally sits and yesterday was 20.1kg. I am hoping that means that the pups are not much bigger than last time if I take into account the condition she has put back on (definitely feels better over her ribs than she did) With the 9 puppies she gained between 9 and 10kg. A couple of other breeders that felt and saw her thought more than 2 as well as she is visibly pregnant but just shows you never can tell. I just want a nice girl. And I'm not asking much that nice girl needs to be nicely put together, have a temperament and drive suitable for dog sports and able to herd like it's mother. LOL So my bet is 2 quiet, laid back boys.

Jazz was xrayed tonight. 2 puppies due sometime at the end of this week. I had hoped the ultrasound was wrong. But no Crossing fingers they are not too big and she has them ok.

Great news. Where was he found?
-
Given my luck probably as I am hoping to run on a girl. LOL

Because sometimes you need it and there is not a bargain available. If I could have got a ready made alternative for a similar price, I would have.
-
Yep, I got it at Bunnings.

If they own a limit register dog themselves and are not actually registered breeders there is nothing that ANKC can do. What you can do is have a nice chat with them and ask if they have been breeding long, what is their prefix, what health tests does the breed need and what are the results of their dogs etc etc and then based on answers steer them in the right direction if need be. Such as explaining what limit register is and suggesting they talk to the breeder of their dog for assistance.

You can't blame CR for the tracking though. Mine still said it had cleared customs and was in Sydney when it was delivered in Adelaide. My second order has been saying "being processed by customs" for over a day now. The first order had that for only a few minutes. So it depends on how well the mail handlers scan and update things. I do think the hurricane would have had a big effect on things. They also had another bad weather system go through last week. -
If they are not registered with the ANKC affiliated group in their state then there is nothing they can do. It is possible to breed pedigree dogs and not be an ANKC breeder. Working sheepdogs are an example - there are multiple registration organisations so breeders with the Working Kelpie Council for example can advertise as registered breeders with pedigree pups. ETA: Then there are the breeders registered with ANKC pedigree dogs who would say that as they are selecting for criteria other than show dogs - working gundogs, obedience, agility etc.

At the average weekend show I would say no as most people will do them at home prior to the event. On a big weekend of international judges where you often get people camping an traveling long distances or specialty shows then probably yes. As Dancinbcs mentioned the club arranged for it in the case of the BC Nationals as a courtesy for those of us traveling and staying over for a period of days. As an example, by the last day of the nationals we had been away 4 days already and for 1 of the dogs in our group that was the first day they entered the ring so although bathed before traveling they still needed a tidy up. Also as some dogs were also involved in performance sports (including herding) there were quite a few who needed at least spot bathing.

Hey leopuppy, you can always do like I did and justify it as being for the litter of pups :) Babies need new toys and these are so much better quality than what we can get for the same price over here. -
And you'd probably have to charge by time use, with a large increase for going over your booked time, otherwise you'd have some people taking forever and others missing out and probably getting very cranky! Plus different breeds obviously take longer or shorter times, and even within breeds the drying time can vary heaps, depending on the coat so you'd need to make sure people were realistic with their booked times. Oh and if it's humid/damp/raining drying takes even longer again. I wasn't at the second border collie nationals, but certainly at the first everyone that I saw around it was very considerate. It was no cost (if I recall correctly) and there was a booking sheet there. Sometimes someone may have taken a bit longer but it wasn't booked solid so I never saw any issues around it. Mostly people were happy to stand and have a chat while waiting. Or else while the previous person finished their drying and grooming they would give you room to start bathing. It was busiest the day before and very early in the morning. Although some with dogs in the later classes and nothing on early did use it once judging had started. I know with my friends and I we booked a few time slots in a row and helped each other - 1 bathing and 1 drying then 1 grooming kind of thing so we could minimise the time we were there for. And as soon as we finished with the bath the next person started while we finished off drying etc.

Gorgeous babies Andisa, congratulations! Fordogs - poor Bella!!! How many are you expecting? A dozen by the look of that, lol.

Your method was our original plan but they only had plastic trestles and then we found they sold the legs separately so worked out we could just stick a piece of ply on top. When we went looking for something to go on top we never expected to find pyramid matting and at a really good price. Looks almost as good as a bought 1 and does the job well :)
