The 1 at Parafield Airport. They still had about half a dozen or so of each colour there this afternoon. I don't know if they have more out the back.

Hmmm maybe it is a local deal then? It is a bloody good 1 though :) The beagle has already staked a claim and thinks it is hers. It is so nice and thick and soft.

Thanks TLC. We were organising decorations, lights and tree on the weekend so I just couldn't help myself. LOL I aim to do 1 each weekend until Christmas with them. At some stage I will get around to prettying it up a bit. Or I might leave that 1 as is and go for a simple pic in the next couple of weeks. Getting the 2 of them still and visible was hell but as they get more mobile it will only get worse!

This is Jazz on the bed, she is a fairly long border collie bitch and has ample room.

I just stopped in at Petstock and they have a great promo on right now. Buy a 7kg bag or larger and get a free dog bed. The beds are a great size, normally with this type of thing they are small but these are 100cm x 75cm. As an idea, bringing it home I threw it in the back of the station wagon on top of my 42" crate and it was about the same size as the base of that. They are probably about 10cm deep and are filled with a memory foam and have a removable, washable cover. I have no idea if it is a Petstock only promo or a South Australian 1 but if you feed proplan and need a new dog bed it might be worth having a look. I googled and this is the bed, retailing for $80.00: http://www.ozdogbeds.com.au/purina-pooch-pad-dog-bed-pink-blue-chocolate.html?utm_source=myshopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Pet+Supplies&utm_term=Purina+Pooch+Pad+Dog+Bed+Pink+Blue+Chocolate My local store at Parafield had them in pink, blue and a chocolate brown colour.

I looked at that but thought maybe they had just come inside and were having a play or had been doing a staged photo shoot? I know that I have at times just dropped my dogs leads and mucked about with them for a few moments rather than removing it.

Congrats on the shepherd babies Angelsun and bad luck about your German Pinscher Indigirl - glad Luna is on the way up. It is so scary when they go downhill like that I was getting worried with Jazz the other night that we were going to have the same issue but luckily her temp was mastitis and easily managed as we got it early and she still has heaps of milk. I was worried about dehydration as well with the awful days we had so was offering her a lot of goats milk or water with a bit of manuka honey in it to keep her drinking.

A lage open space like a beach and surrounding park sounds fine. I am with RiverStar-Aura, my issue is with the small fenced in ones. A fence means people take it for granted, also even if people that are using the 1s near me do have trained recalls the space is just not enough. There is no room in them to have your dog running off lead and out of someone else's way if needed. On the other hand if I go to the beach during summer, which means only during certain hours, I can always avoid others if needed as there is plenty of space to stay away.

I have a small litter of 2 puppies at the moment. 1 week old today. And well. how can you have puppies at this time of year and NOT do Christmas photos. 1 week old puppies are nowhere near as easy to work with you as you would think. They don't stay still, you can't lure or bribe them. You can't make a noise to get their attention. It is really just pot luck and perseverance. LOL I decided I am going to try and do a Xmas pic of them each week when I do their weekly photos. Here is this weeks. (I want to re-edit it as it seems a bit yellow and the backdrop is a bit creased and ordinary too)

We had a rough 24 hours with things going downhill Thursday night. Puppies are fine and Jazz is now too but she was running a temp and unsettled. Not much sleep Thursday night keeping an eye on her and a vet visit yesterday. She had the start of mastitis developing. An antibiotic injection and a day of keeping it empty and massaging it and fingers crossed we are over that hurdle.

With any luck his is my rising star for 2013.... No idea how she moves though. LOL

My 2 are turning into fat little slugs. Luckily they are also strong and active and manoeuvring easily around the obstacle course that is their whelping box (Jazz has decided no matter what I put int here that it must be scrunched up and rearranged, but with the heat we have had I can't say I blame her). So far the boy has gained 380 grams and the girl 340 grams. I expect he will reach double his birth weight tomorrow and she will on Saturday.

I agree, they look big!

Glad all went well, it must have been stressful for you and your friend. Thank god for good friends!!

Lucky you, and what a good brother :)

Congratulations Evolving! And what a civilised time of day to whelp. Mind you I am guessing you still didnt get any sleep as you would have been up all night waiting for it to start, lol. Love the domino puppy - very cute :)

Pockets and Andisa, your babies are gorgeous. Pockets - will keep my fingers crossed for your girl too. I love watching shepherd ears as they grow, they go through such funny stages. My 2 are doing well. Not quite 48 hours and the boy has already gained over 100 grams and the girl 70. And you would think with only 2 puppies and 10 nipples there would be no hassles but no - they both seem to want the same 1 all the time, lol.
-
Everyone comments on that :) The breeder of the stud dog commented "Stamp of Approval" or "Under the Thumb" Both would make good pedigree names and I will probably use 1 if I don't run her on myself. If I run her on I have had a name picked out for a while now to use.

Cool coats are fantastic for when you are out and about but I wouldn't leave them on them all day at home when you are not around. If you have any nice trees/bushes in you yard you could soak the soil under them in the morning. I do this under our 2 best shade trees when it is going to be hot and the soil stays nice and cool and damp for hours and they will go lay there if they want to cool off. We also do the clam shell of water too. I have never had any success with the cool mats - they would much rather lay on the cool ground than 1 of them. You can also make doggie ice blocks - freeze ice cream container and have some treats hidden in it. I sometimes do this if we get an empty ice cream container but I don't rinse the container first - just fill it up so the ice is slightly flavoured and a bit interesting. If you give raw meaty bones these can also be fed frozen in hot weather. The sliver shade mesh that you can get for gazebo walls also work well hung from a pergola/verandah to add shade and decrease the heat.

1. Reverse Sneezing And 2. Hayfever?
piper replied to Simply Grand's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Simply Grand, We have a beagle and at this time of year last year and again this year she has had terrible allergies with reverse sneezing fits and runny eyes. Frustratingly the reverse sneezing fits are almost always in the middle of the night when she is relaxed and sleeping and as she sleeps in our room it affects all of us. Last year she ended up with a secondary infection and spent most of summer on and off of antibiotics, cortisone and antihistamines to control it. This year the very first time I heard it I put her straight onto antihistamines and all going well we seem to be controlling it ok. Unlike last year when we weren't sure if it was allergies, this time I have been giving her an antihistamine every day and not just when it seems like she needs one. It seems if we let it go too long it takes a few days of antihistamines to settle it back down again. This year it started within a few days of the episodes last ear so we are assuming there must be something airborne that will last until mid January. I would suggest a vet check though in case of some sort of obstruction (eg grass seed) if it has increased suddenly or in case fo a secondary infection like Jessi had. -
Yes the red will continue to darken for quite sometime. A bit like goldens, until you have the adult coat you don't have the final colour. The ears are darker and 1 patch between the shoulder blades so there is definitely some colour change to occur. Looks like he will be a fluffy bugger too, quite wavy along his back when he came out. My last litter had 1 almost the same shade and he has darkened up quite a bit, more than I thought he would. I expect this boy will do the same. He should end up somewhere in the middle range. He won't be cream but won't be a rich red either.
-
Watching him being pulled out I couldn't see ANY colour to begin with. LOL It was a relief when he was all the way out and I realised he was red rather than horrendously mismarked! The trouble with only 2 puppies - I have a great theme for this litter and so many names and only 2 to use them on.

Peperone is where I got mine as well, cheapest I could find by a long shot.

Some quick pics The boy The girl The proud Mum

We are all a bit sleepy here today so just taking it easy. Convenient of her to manage it on a Saturday night so my husband and I can both have a quiet Sunday to recover :) Fordogs - I am hoping to run on a girl so fingers crossed the body and temperament match the perfect markings in 2 months time! And with any luck the little red boy takes after my little red boy from the last litter who has the most divine temperament and has made a wonderful family dog for his owners.
