I hope Leo's story continues to live on, I remember when it was unfolding before the pages of DOL. I also think a facebook page is a fantastic idea!

When we first met Jorja the first thing she did was zoomies round and round and round dad and I... makes me dizzy just thinking about it. Then it became a nightly ritual when we were toilet training her which as you can imagine was great fun in at 2am in the pouring rain. I love her doing zoomies but i do hold my breath when she tears around the corners of the house and hugs the fence line running through the bushes.. i worry she might get caught on a stray branch or something.

Jorj has a little greeting ritual. If she is outside she will peek under the the gate to see who it is before charging around to the side door where she waits wriggling around, snorting sometimes squealing If she is inside she waits in the room next to the front door with her toes on the edge of the carpet and the tiles in the passage (still wriggling). Then when we come inside she does her zoomies around us and either goes to her mat or up onto the bed for a cudde and kiss haha.

naaw I love puppies!! She is very sweet, what a little cuddle bum! A pair of cuddle bums with the two of them lol

- Which of those colours is confused? Does the pup look like that or different? It's ok lofty... the dog in that photo is Wilson the 2yr old cav is the existing dog. The puppy with the bad poos is Sally who is now 10 weeks, a cav but we have no picture.

So she is now 10 weeks.. I think Anyway, it seems if there is not a lot of blood then she may just have had an upset tummy. Keep an eye on it and if it persists I would go to the vet, which you are anyway. Jorj has had bloody poos.. infact no poos just blood and the vets just gave her hydrolytes and bland diet at the time I was in a panic and even took in stool samples which the vet didn't even bother looking at What's her name cavalierlover? eta: snap kay & tlc.

I would encourage the poms owner to get involved in some sort of formal training. This should not only begin to resolve the problems by teaching the owner and in turn the dog but it also enables the dog to get some socialisation with other people and dogs as well as some mental and physical stimulation. The dog is only playing up because she doesn't know better, she has never been given any boundaries and therefore she is all over the shop.

Oh no not the books! Jorj went through a few destructo pup moments.. I have lost 2 internet connection cords and the cord connecting the monitor to the drive to her menacing jaws not to mention the pompom off my footy beanie, holes in my socks and the sleeve off a t-shirt. Although the beanie was only 2 weeks ago you can't help but kick yourself for leaving such things in harms way and laugh at the whole situation. Mind you she hasn't attacked any of my books, my birds do though.. they love the loose homework sheets, pitty teachers won't believe me if I told them my budgies ate my homework lol I still after having Jorja for now just over a year, she is 16 months, praise her for doing her business outside. Especially when we are not home and are at the park, beach, training etc. I practically do a song and dance when she goes, but that's also because she used to have a habbit of holding till we got home ;) Good luck to both you and little Jimmy and I look forward to the day you post you have achieved success

haha that's alright, I haven't been online for about a week. Jorja isn't crate trained so I can't really comment on the crate training, she sleeps in her own basket (keep in mind she is an inside/outside dog). If crating him suits you, you are doing him and yourself no favours by giving in to his cries. The more you ignore them the less he will cry and ultimately he will really enjoy his crate. Just make sure he has plenty of toys to keep him amused as well as clean and comfy blankets and constant access to fresh water :p Considering he is pooing when you are home I would suggest taking him outside more frequently at night and encourage him to go to the toilet outside. I know it is tedious but when I was toilet training Jorja, in the thick of winter mind you, I was out at all hours in the freezing cold and it has been very rewarding. I would decide on a routine and stick to it, for however long it takes to train Jimmy. Housebreaking Jimmy fully will take a while. I would say it took about 4-6 months before Jorja completely stopped having accidents but she was a puppy and I was starting from scratch. Each dog is different, some take to it like a duck to water and others put up a challenge. Don't think of Jimmy as being stubborn, for whatever reason he has forgotten his toilet manners and now you are reprogramming him. Also, since you have brought him home you have changed his orginial routine, and now you have to get him into a routine that suits you, is realistic and achievable and one that you are willing to action. Honestly I don't know anything else, I am a novice at all of this as Jorja is my first dog Give it a go and as I have said in the past the key to it is If things don't start to progress I would speak to a behaviourist/dog trainer.

Your welcome DK, although I am not the most knowledgable and can only advise bsed on my experience and with what was advised to me. I don't frequent the training pages and a lot of other DOLers who could offer more (and better) help don't either so I would pop another post into General Dog Discussion IMO, you need to treat his training as if he were a puppy, despite being an adult. Perhaps contact (if possible) his previous owners and ask what they did to train him and if they used a cue word he responds to, i.e. "weewees" "toilet" etc. If he is "stalling" when outside, take him out on the leesh. If he hasn't gone, bring him back inside but still on the leesh, wait a few minutes and try again. When he does toilet outside give him big praise.. and if he starts going inside, pick him straight up during the act and pop him outside and praise for continuing outside. There is no point yelling at him or shoving his face in the accidents, it achieves zilch. ETA: If you are using a cue word, say it to encourage him and then as he is in the act repeat till he finishes. Just make sure you arent walking around the yard telling him to go "toilet" or he will get confused and think that walking around (or whatever he is doing) is going toilet. I hope that made sense lol Also, some breeds, like Italian Greys are harder to toilet train. I have no idea if chinese cresteds are difficult but maybe that has a role to play If you are doing some form of formal training with him, mention it to your trainer, they will be able to help you. Finally from me, be confident! Dogs know if you are worried and nervous and will respond accordingly. If you think you will fail you haven't even given yourself or your dog a chance, and I have no doubt you will both overcome this. Good Luck!

My dog is toilet trained and we have only had an accident if we misunderstood her signs. Firstly I would not panic, to be successful in any sort of training, including housebreaking you MUST be committed to resolving the accidents, consistent in your approach and praise and patient as these things take time. He was probably due again When training puppies it was always recommended to me that you take them out for toileting after they eat, sleep and play as they are pretty regular when only a few weeks/months old. But these times are usually a good indication of when dogs need to go - my girl usually does a lap or two around the yard before she sqats for poos.

Congrats Tess on your new baby... Noah is an absolute sweety Jorja was fully vaccinated when we brought her home at 14 weeks from the shelter. So i didn't hesitate taking her out at all. For the first few weeks I carried her everywhere mainly because she was my lil baby and she was a terror on the lead I took her to a vet puppy school about two/three weeks after she came home. She loved it and benefitted from it emensly. She went in there a growly little pup and 4 weeks later came out a little angel.

I have Jorja on Royal Canin Junoir as that's what she was being fed at the shelter and she is doing very well on it (I did try her on advance and she liked it a lot but her stools weren't as good as when on RC) Recently has she developed a fussy habit which im not too impressed about! She was treated to a serving of rice with vegies and left over scotch fillet with the juices drizzled over and since then she will only eat her RC if I drizzle some diluted Vegemite over it I'm not really sure if I am doing the right thing by giving her vegemite with her food but I don't really know what else to do. I also tried a bit of beef stock cube but she prefers the vegemite. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Jorj has had 3 baths in the first month we brought her home in July. Mum insisted she be washed when she came home as she couldn't stand the doggy smell inside the house and then we found the joy of Aloveen Oatmeal shampoo and conditioner so she got another bath haha. The third bath was due to the muddy drowned rat we came home to one day after the little devlin had been playing in the rain :rolleyes: I haven't washed her since then because hasn't really gotten dirty and when she does it just brushes out. Also you can use the conditioner without washing it out so when she gets brushed (twice weekly) I rub it into her coat and she smells divine. I also have a dog odour spray for when she is a bit on the pong

I don't know if i can offer much advice but Jorja used to be very growly towards some strangers and strange dogs and then prefectly gentle and loving with others. I was quite concerned my cute little precious baby appeared to be a vicious monster! Then we went to puppy school... Day one proved to be eventful with her going crazy at these two little whimpering pups. To curb this our instructer helped me distract her. So I was taught to offer her a food reward but entice her to turn away from the source of aggrevation before giving it to her as well as praise. You can also do this with toys.. but just change the situation to something pleasant. Her behaviour continued for most of our first class. The following week she didnt growl once and even did a few play bows and went up to the other pups and owners. By the final week (week 4) she was dragging me into the class to play with everyone... even the animals going to see the vet So maybe you should, if you havent already, invest in a good puppy school or dog training facility just to help start things off! I was quite impressed with ADT too after reading a bit about them on their website. Jorja has her name down for puppy pre-school at a local vet but I thought this would be good for ongoing obedience traning. I am still to ring them and enquire so we shall see what eventuates. Hopefully it isn't too expensive :rolleyes:
