Cocker Spaniel Vs Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
oakway replied to allie181's topic in General Dog Discussion
I would go with the Cav as it's a Toy breed, while I have nothing against Cockers they are a gun dog. I believe that the Cavaliers by the sheer virtue of its nature would be better suited to unit living. -

First off...totally ridiculous rules Second..how and who will police this? What is the next step..no bitches to compete in CONFORMATION shows while in season? (they could in fact claim the above 3.3.9 rule description would apply there as well. 3.3.9.2 Do we have a form to fill out, signed by the vet that scanned the bitch saying she missed, or showing the blood tests that can be done at 21 days to confirm pregnancy.....or will we leave it up to our peers to mind our business and breeding program and let them dob us in? Should be interesting. And people wonder why we call them a bunch of blithering idiots. One would think that they would realise that the less dogs that are around the less secure their jobs are. It makes one wonder why these ridiculous rules are added or have we been infiltrated to and that is the object of the exercise. -

It just goes to show that it can happen. I do think that there are lot of working bitches out there that do their job and also give birth, just like we do. -

Why ???, I am not having a go at you in any shape size or form.........................but the bitch would have to maintain herself in the wild and catch her food. Our dogs are not in the wild, they are not used to going out and looking for their own food. A track 6 (or it was back then) is hard work and and to put a bitch that far in whelp on the track, just to try and get a title on her name before the pups are born, in my opinior, is selfish. There was no rule stopping this from happening, I'm glad there is now. I hear what you are saying but plenty of bitches have escaped and lived off the wild and delivered healthy pups. (The day before one of my daughters was born I was crouching sheep). For sure, I get what you and others are saying too, but I don't think it's necessary to have a bitch competing in sports so close to giving birth. If they feel like running wild, more power to them but I don't think we should be making them do it for our own pleasure. I believe you will have no problems with anyone agreeing to that. -

That may be the company's law but it is not the law of the land and the law of the land prevails. -

People make rules and just don't think. Just makes fools out of the organisation. They also wonder why people bitch about them and they lose memberships. -

It seemed a bit OTT that they couldn't even be at the grounds but I guess that's how you make doubley sure no whelping occurs. I would have thought the associated health risks were to do with contagious diseases - a risk wherever multiple dogs congregate - but worse consequences for a pregnant bitch? That would only apply to the Durack show grounds as it is privately owned by the members. (Well that's what your told if you ask). All other grounds are public areas. I would rather take my dogs to a show where dogs are vaccinated than to a dog park. I would also think a lot of the problem is to with insurance. That is why dogs that are not entered in the show are to be disclosed to the show manager if on the grounds.( A Dogs Qld. Councillor told me that also) -

May I ask to please. That's like saying because you are pregnant you can't do anything or go anywhere. What a joke. -
Wise words there.

I am not aware that any registered dogs have been brought into Aus. There may however, be pet ones brought into the country. If they are known of, I am sure somebody on this will advise you.
-
Well if I was still living in the Rosewood area I would have offered to look after the dog for you. All anybody is saying go to good reliable kennel. I can only speak for where I have worked.
-
Goodness gracious me where are some of you boarding your dogs. A Kennel that doesn't feed your requirements or allow you to provide your own!!!!!! A kennel that does not provide medication for the animals it cares for, what about the dogs that require insulin and other specific medication. No bedding you have to be joking. What about the geriatric dogs that must kept of the cold floors. Don't the kennels you use provide supportive geriatric matting for the old dogs. If your dog is not getting good 5 star service look for another kennel. All that applies to cats to. I suppose that you will tell me next that where you board your cats they don't have air conditioning for summer nor do they provide warmth for the winter.

:p That sounds like the one I have. :D ;) Well I have the BROTHER to them.

IF I were you I look at one of the metal dog trolleys not an aluminum one. I have both. The aluminium is light to handle but the metal is much stronger.

I never feed bones that are dried, smoked or cured in any form. It all means cooked to me.

As to recommendations I highly recommend Paws and Whiskers at Berrinba, you can go via the airport road or White Rose Boarding at Walloon
-
I recommend a kennel too. Kennels are designed to keep dogs safely enclosed, and kennel staff are paid to interact with the dogs. There is no way I would trust some random in Ipswich to keep my dog in their yard. It could so easily get stolen, or attacked by neighbour's dogs, or eat poisonous plants or try to escape to find me or anything. Okay, you've convinced me to give a kennel a go. The one I inspected is one you reccomended to me and one my vet reccomended and I did truly like the lady who showed me around. I think that if Poppy likes it and does well it will make having to have her cared for less stressful because like you say they are professional and I know she will be safe and well looked after! I just hope she copes okay!. To make it easier all round may I suggest that you do a trial. Why not put the dog in the kennel for one day only once a week to start and as the dog becomes accustomed to the kennel two day's a week and so on.
-
Which one would that be? Dunno, I would have to have a look at it first.

I have every sympathy for you in this situation. May I ask why the kennel did not attend to your dogs needs and left you to do this. I think you may find that CLASS kennels would never have allowed your dog to get to this state in the first place. It wasn't actually a kennel. It was a pet sitter. Poppy was only 14 weeks old though and I think that had a lot to do with her reaction. Which probably makes you wander why I want to go that way again. But the 2nd and 3rd time she stayed there she was fine and a lot older than her first time. And on the 4th time something happened that made me really incomfortable. I don't know, maybe its me thats the baby and maybe I should give the kennel a go. I just worry that she will react like she did the first time we left her and I will be interstate so it will be hard for me to rush back. Last time we were only an hour or so away. You do what you think is best for you and your dog. You know your dog best.

Yes, well run kennels are busy places. Well run and appointed kennels are just so busy because they are well known for the care they give the dogs and cat's for that matter. The busier the kennel the better the quality. You will of course always have "some" quiet times . But, I found that the quiet times were also busy for gardening/mowing weeding replacing items. Quality kennels are busy kennels. We even had the cloths line where the dogs could see you and believe you me that line was well used on a daily basis many times a day.
