  1. I agree with you with this analogy...as well as those that commented about the bitches whelping under the porch and all went well. With the number of capable hands at a show, what better place to get help....those of us in the game long enough have probably had some vets that don't know what our peers at the shows know, when it comes to whelping a bitch! As for dogs at shown who are not entered....can someone find the definition of "precincts" regarding the show? This must mean the spectators walking their mixed breed fluffies must be asked in future to leave dog shows. CKC boundaries for official shows were 10 feet outside the building (if held indoors) and 30 feet around the rings. We had someone once try to stop people taking extra dogs/pups etc to the shows (outside) only to be told that since the show was on a public area, they couldn't enforce anything. It would be the same here if the show is held at a Public place.
  2. I couldn't agree more Sandra, I was also around in the 70's and 80's. My foundation bitch was from a father/daughter mating, she was mated to an import and produced a BIS/BISS winner and I then put her daughter to her nephew and produced two BIS/BISS winners. One of her sons had his first mating at ten months of age. As for taking pregnant bitches to shows, I've done it occasionally and I know many other breeders who've done it, as long as the bitch isn't heavily in whelp and is happy to show I don't have a problem with it. Ladies move over because I am coming in to join you. I think I can safely say that none of us condone deliberately taking a bitch in first stage labor to a show, what we are saying is Sh!t happens when you least expect it. How many women have gone into labor un expectantly, when at a meeting, conference or a party, or low and behold at a dog show, again sh!t happens.
  3. Hi Sandra777, I am not in any way disputing what you have written, heaven knows we only do what we believe to best for our beloved dogs. I spoke to the rep of a well known brand of dog food and the rep pleaded with me NOT to feed bitches in whelp or nursing bitches Puppy Food. The rep said that bitches in whelp and nursing bitches need a complete diet and as puppy food was formulated for rearing pups always feed a complete diet. Made sense at the time and I thought it was worth mentioning. Cheers
  4. Many people around the world keep dogs in high rise apartments. Some of the high rise apartments have dog walkers. You should see some of breeds that come out at walkies time in New York.
  5. So, some of you would also think that once a woman is pregnant she should not leave the grounds of her home other than for check ups. Come on now, plenty of pups have been born under the house in the dirt and mother and pups have done well. Plenty of babies also born in vehicles on the way to hospital. Whats wrong with being born a show ground. Plenty of experienced people to lend a hand and who's dogs aren't vaccinated.
  6. Congratulations on the new puppies.
  7. Wow!! That's certainly a dramatic way to make a stand!! :D I had better watch my terminology. Unfortunately I left the state before I received a reply. ;)
  8. Hi, After a discussion on this forum a few were concerned over the liver freezing method. I was in a different state then and found out for the information that was wanted, it would be best to contact the Agricultural Department or it equivalent which I did. Most unfortunately after several inquiries and no replies I left the state. We know that many processes over the years do change but until conformation from DPI or similar body I boil it at very high temperatures for a long time to kill the Hydatids Cyst should there be any. I use bullocks liver never sheep or play it safe and use chicken as suggested. I have also cut it into thin strips and cooked it in the microwave at full bast till it is fully cooked. Also in Tasmania I have seen signs in the butcher departments that it is illegal to feed liver to dogs in this State.
  9. My mistake ........not functioning well this morning at all.
  10. Hi, Why not give consideration to leaving the dog in good care here while you are away. As you are aware that will 6 months in one country and 6 months in another then a month in quarantine in Aus.
  11. I agree with Souff. Some people even with doing their homework find the reality of living with some dogs just to difficult. At least they are doing the right thing and trying to inform people that may be interested.
  12. That sounds pretty good to me. Glad you stood your ground with the vet. We all only do what we believe is best for our pups.
  13. Not only do the ANKC need to catch up so do the State Bodies and so many of the Obedience and Dog Sports Clubs for a starter.
  14. I personally follow what I was told to do and that is .................NO puppy should be vaccinated under 8 Weeks of age. Puppies should be weaned from their mother at 6 weeks. Thus giving 2 full weeks for their immunity to dip low so their systems can accept the vaccine. If the puppies systems reject the vaccine it is usually because the have still been receiving their mothers immunity. I have not bred a litter for about 2 years now so the new Nobivac vaccine that can given at 10 weeks should be available. Only 1 vaccine to be given then another at approximately 1 year. If you wish to Titre test and the dog's system has accepted the vaccine there is no need to vaccinate the dog again. If the dog shows antibodies in the system they are there for life.
  15. As I am now back on line you may add me to.
  16. If you have committed the ultimate sin, there must be a lot us sinner out there with you. No of course it won't cause any problems with the dog, other than the dog hogging too much of the bed.
  17. Morning all, I think you said it all in the first post.
  18. As far as I am aware Dec. 4th and I think it starts at 4 in the afternoon.
