Exactly how do you prove it? Yes it is ethically wrong, but remember some show people have no ethics at all. agreed, I just had to have a vent thats all Oakaway, whats up your nose? Do YOU show a desexed bitch?? Dont attack me, I just wanted to make a point, after all why bother bringing in a neuter title?? No you can prove it, yes Im sure there are many, many desexed dogs being shown, but there are RULES and if they can and will be flouted whats the point of even having said rule, thats all i was saying!! Geez!!! Nothings wrong, but I am just sick and tired of the ...........You know they have had that bitch de sexed.........and six months later her pups are in the ring. No, don't own a de sexed bitch, I am in the process of finding out if their is some sort of rain dance that will make mine come in season. :p I just don't have a problem with de sexed canines shown in the ordinary classes. It happens in England. A good dog is a breeders delight. Yes, I wonder why the neuter class was brought in.........how many shows hold the class?????????. Maybe that is the problem.

Personally I couldn't give a dam if a desexed bitch is shown and titles. The judges are judging to a standard and if that dog meets the requirements of the standard so be it. Now DON"T come back at me that the judge is judging as to breeding requirements because they are NOT. Judges, judge to a that breeds required standard. How would the judge know if the average bitch/dog was capable of even producing a litter. How would a judge know if the owners would even breed the the animal concerned. How would a judge know if the animal concerned would have the capabilities of conceiving if she was bred. How many times do we hear that the bitch was mated and never produced. And by the way you will never know how many bitches that are shown are de sexed. Oh, and by the way, many of the males have have had a vasectomy and can't produce either.

Fly the puppy. Why would you put a young puppy through all those of hours of travel when you can fly the pup in a matter of a couple of hours. You will find that most of the people that have said fly are also breeders that fly puppies all the time. They are well treated at the airports and travel in the same temparature as the passengers. There is no way I would travel a pup of mine for all those hours. I fly all my pups and and bitches that go interstate. Always remember that young pups and dogs are flying around the world everyday.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERY ONE

Yes that is what it looks like to. That is what I thought it was. I took the bitch and pups to the vet only to be told it was a Staph infection. I destroyed the whelping box and any bedding that was in it. All other bedding was rewashed with heavy doses of bleach and I put fresh unused bedding in and I have never had it back since. Yes the pups do cry. The puppies were given medication in the form of drops. I don't remember about the bitch as this was a long time age. The scabby patches were about the size round of a cigarette. They also had a funny smell. As you say come up like a hot spot. Hot spots are usually caused by allergies not necessarily heat. Hope this is of some help to you. I will rack my brains and try to find out what the drops were. I think it may have been called Antirobe. It worked they stopped crying and they never got any more spots of it. Cheers. (they would have been an antibiotic)

Easy, don't feed the dog until it has eaten the bone. By the way I would not be feeding weight bearing bones to dog they are to hard for them. (shank) I would use softer bone like lamb flap or chicken neck.
-
The hot spots may not be hot spots. It sounds like a staph infection. Smell the spots, to me they always smell metallic. If it is staph I would consult the vet. You may also find that the staph may be linked to the problem.

Yes exactly. All the crying and sobbing and grief one suffers doesn't bring them back. Best to get it out of your system with what ever method you use. Then get on with life.

Silly People Doing Stupid Things? Vent!
oakway replied to Keira&Phoenix's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi, Get some of those plastic dog vents for the car windows. Solves the problem. -
Speak to your vet about any other avenues before spaying if you wish to keep her entire.

What Do You Think Of This Logic?
oakway replied to pixie_meg's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Why not have the dog tested to see if he is sensitive to any mectin based heart worm. That way you will know what not to give. -
Hi, You can not transfer membership, you will have to apply for Qld, M/ship. Your Prefix can be transferred to Qld. Contact Dogs Vic. and ask them to send your prefix to Qld. When you want to, you may apply for New Qld. M/ship in person at the office or do it by down loading the New Members forms. Also fill out the transfer of Prefix form for your prefix and pay the prefix for the coming year.

Very cruel and heartless response Oakway. We KNOW our dogs are not human children but they are our 'family' none the less. Most on here view their dogs as their furKIDS and we ALL suffer the same grief in losing a beloved pet as we do a human relative. There is also NO TIME LIMIT on grief. Cruel, heartless, I don't think so. Cruel and heartless is when you lose your new baby son at 5 days of age. But life goes on and we live on. Does Yap think think they are are the only ones to lose a beloved dog. We all lose them but we still get on with our lives. Also what I said is the truth how do know that those words may be just the words to bring Yap out of this state. Those words stand a dog is not a child and Yap needs professional help.

A dog is not a child. You need to seek medical attention.

It means that honest people don't break them. ;) We oblige Dogs Qld. by not breaking them and causing a problem. But knowing what is legal and what is not is sometimes no weight to bare.
-
Possible because I may be aware of the law than most. Anyway why would I want to break any rules or regulations. I have never been before the breeches committee. Why would any person deliberately set out to want to break the rules. There is big difference in knowing what is right or wrong, than putting it into practice.

Don't any of these persons who attend the conference realize that some of the wider scull breeds often were bred on their first season before the bones were set to open these bitches up so that further whelping problems don't occur. Doesn't mean they MAY not have a problem but it sure helped and there were less c sections when they were bred early.

And what some are saying is that it is impossible to be "caught off guard" if you don't take in-whelp bitches to shows and that they can't think of any "good" reasons for it to happen. I keep the entire pack away from strange dogs (dog shows, trials, off-leash parks etc) once a bitch is mated. Though I don't think it's the worst thing in the world, I don't like seeing dogs in whelp at shows and certainly not whelping at shows. DogsQld have a rule against it now and I'm happy with that. Yes we all know the rule but it does not apply to a Public Place. We all know the Controlling Bodies have rules and regulations but lets call them the Company's rules and regulations but some are not cast in stone and we all know the company may have laws but they are not the laws of the land and the Laws Of the Land Prevail.

Interesting comment from one since it's the dog food companies that usually push for lactating/pregnant bitches to be on puppy food I 80% raw feed and don't use puppy food for anything, so makes no difference to me ;) Yes, I thought so to. I also feed basically raw so it really does not really effect the like of us, but I thought it was an interesting comment by a rep who is also a breeder.

Hi, No I don't test mine. I leave that to the dogs . I have had people call me and ask for help when the bitch has been tested and given a date and they can't get the dog near the bitch. I just tell them to throw the test away and wait for the dog to say when. Never failed to produce a litter. I just don't see why I should waste my money on tests when so many people have problems with the test and can't convince the dog to mate on the day the vet said. And yes, my bitches are usually home when known to be in whelp just the same as the rest of you. As far as I can see nobody is saying that bitches should whelp at shows, what is being said is, if it should happen it's no big deal, all of us can be caught off guard at some time or other and there may be a very good reason for it. Cheers

Sorry Oakway, The human analogy doen't compare, We know EXACTLEY when bitches are due, we know Exactley when they were mated, so if you don't take a bitch out who is in whelp - there can't be an accident if they go early. fifi Come off it.......ask in the breeders forum how many bitches have gone into labor un expectantly. I have had bitches whelp a week early.
