If you only stop to think there are plenty of de sexed males being shown. You don't have to casterate a male to render it infertile.

No not correct. If the dog had 3 vaccinations when as a puppy I would be titer testing and if the readings are showing antibodies there is no need to have the dog vaccinated again for life. I have a puppy here that when I received the vaccination certificate I saw it had 3 vaccinations as a puppy. This dog will never be vaccinated again.

Help Needed With Xl Transport Crate
oakway replied to marty's_master's topic in General Dog Discussion
You may find that dogtainers may be a cheaper than flying down yourself. You will have your airfares and that of the dog. Gone are the days of flying large dogs cheaply. Dog tainers will collect the dog from where the dog is and deliver directly to your place of residence or you may collect at the airport yourself. Also the carriers have a better rate of travel than we can get. Dogs are traveling around the world on a daily basis. -
Help Needed With Xl Transport Crate
oakway replied to marty's_master's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi, If I were you I would ring Dogtainers. They know the sizes and requirements for large dogs. I would ship by the first flight possible. A few hours on the plane and then back with you. I would use a dogtainers hire crate till you could purchase your own. Dogtainers sell large Vari Kennels for shipping. I purchase all my crates of them. -
Good one Megz.

Looking For King Charles Spaniel Registered Breeders Sa
oakway replied to feistylady's topic in General Dog Discussion
Sorry to hear of your sad loss. Do you want a = King Charles Spaniel Breeder Or are you looking for a = Cavalier King Charles Spaniel breeder. You could look for breeders of both breeds in the Dogs for sale or puppies for sale on this Forum. -
You know, the only way I have found how to access breeding stock, is to breed with it.
-
Sorry I can't agree that we show our dogs to have them assessed as breeding stock. We show our dogs to see how judges think they comform to the standard. I can blow that theory out of the water. How many times do you see our top winning dogs/bitch's in their own breed never produce much to go on with, but the brother or sister that stayed at home because they could never beat their brother/sister go on to be our top producing stock. I think you misunderstood my post. ... I said, "I think we should move past the notion that the conformation ring is only for assessment of breeding stock." If i misunderstood your post my apologies.

As I have not read all the post here but I am getting the jist of it. Stop arguing, provisions have been made for those owners wishing to take their dog with them. They are kenneled at the same place for the owner's convenience where all displaced persons are. per courtesy of the ABC broadcasts on the flood situation.

If this is true then why are dogs who are infertile or barren allowed to be shown? Why are dogs found to have an unacceptable for breeding hip or elbow score or those found to be a carrier or affected by a disease still allowed in the ring? Why is health testing not part of the rules when or comes to titling an animal? Conformation shows are not all about judging breeding stock. Many many entire dogs and bitches that are shown and titled may not be bred from at all, for various reasons. Just because they are not bred from does not mean that they can not compete in shows. That is seriously ridiculous. Compulsory health testing is not the be end and all of the show ring either. If a dog is showing a serious lameness or affected by a disease then the owner of the dog should make the decision. I know of breeds with which their hip scores are truly not good but yet they have been bred from, with very careful planning. And some of these dogs are huge winners in the show ring. You wont be able to tell if a dog or bitch is barren/infertile unless you use them for breeding. Why should they be barred from the show ring? It is a show ring, and a judge is assessing the best of the breeds in CONFORMATION on the day. NOT their breeding worth. Breeding worth means alot of different things to different people. I can agree with all what Stonebridge has written. I just wish that Neuter classes were available at all shows. Then everyone is catered for then there is no excuse for entering in the ordinary classed.

Of course we will all have different opinions on the way we judge dogs that,s a good thing. But I can only say, that when I was out there, I have NEVER assessed any any dog/bitch as to their breeding ability. It was always, how good does this animal measure up to the standard. ;) Cheers.

Sorry I cannnot understand the logic of this argument. Surely judging progeny is a more logical way of judging the worth of breeding stock? If this is so, then whether the progeny can be bred or not is irrelevant, we are using the progeny to judge the worth of the parents. No, I don't think wholesale desexing of show dogs would be useful, but I cannot understand the argument which says that just because an animal is desexed it is no longer a worthy representative of what it's parents can produce - i.e. no longer useful in the evaluating of the BREEDING worth of the parents I have to agree with this whole heartedly. I do think that originally, that dogs and bitches for judged for their ability to breed, but once the standards came in, they, the Judges had to judge to a standard. As I keep saying, how can any of us judge a dogs/bitches breeding ability when through a quirk of nature they may both be barren. Other than a Breeders class how do we assess what might happen ?.

Thank you for explanation. I was just wondering. ;) I also wish you and your partner all the luck in the world in your new venture.

I know many will soon put me right but I thought Tan markings on a Pom was highly undesirable. So my question is, if what I have been told is correct why would you Import a dog with Tan markings ?.
-
Do you actually need to pay your money if the dog is ineligible for the age class it's shown in - surely a quick count on the fingers will show the steward someone got it wrong and it would be up to them to get it sorted??? Or are you meaning people deliberately lying about the whelping date? And what's more it could be a cataloging error. I have had bitches entered as dogs and in the wrong class, wrong owner but the entry form is correct. (It happens)

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Dogs Vic have thousands of members and it would an impossibility to police everyone of them. There are good and bad breeders all over the world. It is just finding the right breeder for. If you go to the dogs for sale on the front page of DOL you MAY just find a suitable breeder.

The compost bins are excellent as you can put them together length ways when the pups are small and then turn them to their full height for when the pups get bigger. I would also buy some cable ties much better than the one's provided and use dog clips for the doorway.
-
The date of birth is the day the first pup is born. Or what Megz said.

Please, why do some of you come across as holier than thou . Lot's of things happen in this world, just go and read the headlines, child murdered, woman raped. Now thats against the Rules to, but it happens. When you look at it in cold blood, is showing a de sexed animal really that much of a crime. I thought dog showing was to have fun. As I said before if de sexed classes were mandatory at ALL shows there would be no reason for it to happen. If you had to make a choice who would you choose as a friend, the person who shows a de sexed dog or the murderer etc ?. Remember the old saying, those that are without sin may cast the first stone.

A good dog is capable of winning from any class.
-
So what? The parents can be and then breeders have proof that the parents can produce good dogs. Works great in the horse world - for example some of the best race horses in the world have been geldings - all proving very handily that their mummies and daddies are good producers and should be bred from while never contributing a thing themselves. This is quite aside from the fact that very few breeders I know care much one way or the other for the show ring opinion of an all rounder and certainly don't pay any attention to what happens under these judges when it comes to making breeding decisions! The number of top show dogs which go on to be top sires can be counted on a very few fingers in most breeds. Correct. People, those that show stock that MAY be de sexed, are usually not dedicated breeders and would have in all probability never bred the dog/bitch anyway. You can always ask the breeder if there will be anymore available from any repeat matings should you wish one, or one from similar matings.

Well there some of us that will not oppose your thoughts.
-
Nah, :p In this day and age there is plenty of stuff about to keep a bitch out of season and there fore does not drop her coat. I suppose you could say that during this time the bitch was a barren bitch.
-
Thanks I think I will need it. I thought it was just a case of they didn't cycle while in Tasmania as it may have been to cold for them. I tipped they would come in season as soon as they got back to Queensland, and I would have have to send them all the way back. :p
