  1. I would suggest that you get yourself another vet. Vaccine works the same way on dogs as it does on you. It starts working the minute it enters the body.
  2. Sounds like a real good diet to me. I have bred, reared and shown my dogs to Best In Show on a mince and dry food diet.
  3. It could also be as simple as the tube thay put down her throat to help her breath when she was under....it can irratate the throat.I have had it happen to me....everyone is so quick to jump on the CC train... You beat me to it. I was just about to reply the same. Many dogs after anesthetic developed a cough from the tube. I know of dogs that have developed Tonsilitis after anesthetics and tubing. Sorry after reading the above it might imply that it is not kennel cough. Not the case just, an alternative to think about. Your vet should always be your first port of call.
  4. Well not to worry as I hear soon, to own pet will require council approval. To get approval you first have to take the Government mandated Pet Owners Class, Test and Investigation, which is 3 sessions a week for 12 weeks, conducted by the Greens party, the RSPCA and the Australian Association of Psychiatrist at a cost of $700.00. No refunds either. I hear only 10% of the people will be deemed psychologically fit, financially capable, child free and carbon neutral enough to own a pet. I hope you make the cut. Shortstep you hit the nail right on the head.
  5. to survive, breed more purebred registered dogs, beat the puppy farmers, beat the RSPCA and and libbers and bring the controlling bodies into the same same century we are. ;)

  7. Could it be an Ibizan many can confuse the breed. Heavens knows where they would get one from but I suppose someone moving to area could bring one. Just a thought.
  8. Yes totally agree that many pups that go to pet homes are of show quality but we are lacking show homes. We run them on but it comes to a time when you just keep them any longer and off they go to be de sexed pets.
  9. My thoughts to. When I do breed a litter I have two prices one for prospective show quality puppies on the main register and de sexed pet puppies on the limited register.
  10. Plenty of people keep dogs that bite. Have a look at the yards where security dogs run loose.
  11. I have not read the whole thread, but Jean Dodds is doing a test for food allergies if that is of any help.
  12. Ears and teething all go together. I don't understand why the vet did not remove the tooth. If it is just hanging their.
  13. Yes to enter shows, Breed ect you do but not to have a dog put into your name. Yes thats what I said you only need to be a member to exhibit. You do not need to be a member to have a dog in your name. I have sold dogs to Victorians that are not members and the dogs still go into their name. Am I missing something here. :D
  14. My understanding of the rule is that you MUST be a member to exhibit the dog. Exhibit = to enter the dog for any canine controlled sanctioned event.
  15. I have kept entire males together for many years and they were often used at stud. About the only time they are separated is when the bitches come in season. I know I have done this and they do live happily together.
  16. That would be embryo transfer, a very exciting technology which allows performance mares to be bred from while still able to compete. From what I know of it it's quite difficult, risky and expensive and not undertaken lightly. Again not allowed in TBs either. No quite easy, I watched a programme on it the other day. American of course. The mare was irrigated so may many days ofter mating and they just flushed the embryo out, caught it in a sieve and checked the viability of it and then planted it in the surrogate. Lol my vet does it she doesn't think it's easy at all Much easier in principle than in practice I think ;) Slightly OT but I remember reading some research a while back which suggests that genes can be transferred from mother to foetus in the womb as well so that will make people chose their recipient mares carefully lol I tried to keep it simple.

  18. Just to add a little more fuel to the fire I was told of a mare that had 3 foals last season. Modern technology is here to say, no matter what any of us think.
  19. I used to keep all the trimmings to bait the dog in the ring as loved it that much.
  20. Yes, but his sons that were imported here are only half him. This way we get all his genes. Our foals will half him instead of only a quarter of him. You all know what I mean.
  21. Sorry but wrong with supermarket meat. You could always try Lenards for chicken I buy most of my dog food there. If you want you could always try the bulk meat butchers. They often have great deals on meats that are used for dogs. I don't like the supermarket meat rolls. Good idea Big Gun is just down the road from me. Sorry misunderstood thought you meant meat from the Supermarket.
