  1. I breed Toys and I breed for conformation NOT colour. I don't care what colour a dog is as long as the conformation is there. I breed to improve the breed and I would never breed from a bitch as you have described. I breed to get bet better Aust. Champions. I hope they will be better than the parents, as, along with a lot of other breeders that are hoping to achieve the same.
  2. I have not been been able to find that ruling = where working kelpies may be registered with ANKC. It appears to me that you may be able to register with ANKC Sporting registry. I was under the impression that working dogs had their own registry.
  3. Do you mean desex prior to 8wks? We mean before leaving home. For goodness sake we don't vaccinate till 8 weeks these days. Most vets (other than the RSPCA ones, who have been de sexing since 6 weeks of age) won't touch till the pups are at least 10 weeks or older. Most ethical breeders won't sell a puppy unless they have a signed contract of non breeding or the puppy is not capable of being bred from. Its fine! I was only asking what you meant. I agree, but as always ethical breeders will never make up 100% of the breeder population Unfortunately you are totally correct. :)
  4. The OP is a registered breeder with the WKC (Working Kelpie Council) If that is the case EXCELLENT you see I come from a rurual back ground and I know the worth of a good working breed. So why ask in the first place instead of looking at the OP's earlier posts where she states in another thread that she is a WKC breeder? Possibly because I didn't have the faintest idea what a WKC  was. Sorry, but I live in a world of Pure Bred Registered ANKC Dogs. But that never stops me from admiring a good working dog and the people that breed them.

  6. Correct, it's to do with the amount of light in the eye plus the warmth inside dogs receive. That is why when we clip horses we heavily rug them for warmth and leave lights on in the stable longer to try and make the body believe its getting warmer and more day light is there.

  8. Oh heavens I can't help myself. I am more interested in why you are breeding this bitch, is it for all the right reasons, that is, for the betterment of the breed or do just want to breed a litter. Is your bitch a pure bred registered with controlling body of your state ?. Are you a financial member of that state ?. Do you hold a breeders prefix ?. If you can't answear yes to all those questions I would question why you are breeding this bitch. :)
  9. When you say AI what do you mean ?. Do you mean putting the bitch under and placing the frozen or chilled semen directly into the bitch ?. Or do mean collecting the dog and doing a fresh AI on the spot.
  10. Yes, I know what you are talking about, and we would like to see it stopped toooooooo. But unfortunately when dogs go to new homes up the bush and possibly in an area where Pig Dogs are sought after this cross will happen. Also we must remember it is not illegal to cross breed dogs in this country and until it is we have little chance of stopping this practice. If these dogs had been de sexed before leaving home the problem would not have arisen.
  11. Meant to, I think, is the operative phrase there. It is the judges' prerogative to withhold if entrants are deemed unworthy. Yes all judges have the right to with hold a CC but the point is, the dog should not have been their in the first place.
  12. There is a law that came in on January 1st. that states that anyone owning more than 3 entire breeding dogs or cats must become a registered business and have an ABN number regardless of how many litters they do or don't breed and regardless of whether there is a profit made or not. Those not required to conform to this are those affiliated with certain groups such as if you are a member of several organisations listed such as DogsVic, Cat Protection Sociey etc. thats interesting! is that just in VIC or Australia wide? haven't heard it here in QLD A similar law is being looked at, at the moment for Queensland.
  13. I don't use it. People don't like being treated like idiots. I wouldn't buy a dog on limited register, and I don't put them on the limited register before I send them to homes. If you can't trust the people they are homed with, then don't send them there. Px Pardon me but are you really going to put inferior stock on the main register. If you do you will not have much credibility with other breeders for long. That's why we have the Limited register so puppies that are not show quality can go it and not be shown as the REAL thing. No wonder we have people complaining about the ethics of SOME breeders. Dog shows are meant to decide what is 'best' - titles are awarded as proof. No not at at all. If you are the judge and somebody brings in an inferior speciamen of the breed what would you think. Well I will tell you what I used to think....who was the idiot that put this on the main register. Not everthing we breed is suitable for the main register. Yes we can all make a mistake but it is usually rare for "experienced" breeders. :)
  14. oakway But its not necessary here. When someone tells me they don't want to show, or breed, then I accept that. The difference is, I know where my dogs are and what they're doing. I have one dog out of three litters that is being shown. And that is sad because there were others that would have shown well. I have one dog out of three litters being used to breed. And that is sad because there were others that would have bred well. I don't use the Limited register because I don't need to. That doesn't mean to say I wouldn't use it if I had to. But then I would probably send the puppy somewhere else. I have not done anything unethical at all. I treat all puppy inquiries with dignity. 'tis all Px Wait till you get caught and see what happens then. :) Many of us have been caught at some stage with the so called "you beaut" owners. Yes even me!!!!!. It's called once bitten twice shy. :)

  16. Always remember SOME of our breeds have NO healths available. I have a breed that the only tests available are eye tests and a clear certificate is only available when the dog is 7 years of age. Yes the prices have gone up and so has everything else. I am sure with testings available for some breeds and breeders taking advantage of this to improve the breed I am sure all purchasers will end up with a healthier puppy in the long run. :)
  17. Sorry I don't help Byb's. If she has a peoblem tell them to take to the vet.
  18. True, but the honest ones tend to forget about the unethical ones. Thanks for the reminder. Anyway in my mind any ANKC registered breeder that breeds unregistered is no more than a BYB.
  19. Sometimes we just have to put our head above our heart. You did the right thing and so did the breeder.
  20. BYB's and puppy farmers they are all tared with the one brush. I always thought this forum was for the promotion of the Pure Bred.
  21. Why would one want to breed with a bitch with a HISTORY of Pyrometra ?. By the way it just Staffordshire Bull Terrier. :)
  22. Was it the one that is made in Sweden from seaweed ? because it has not been available in Aust. until the last few weeks. We have been purchasing it from sellers oveseas. Sorry to hear it did not work for you. But then their is always the exception to the rule. The exception to the rule is usually me, but thankfully this time it was not. :)
  23. Sorry to hear that Boronia. It does state on the bottle not recommended for animals undergoing treatment for Hyperthyroidism. Mine, I have to say are all thriving and NO teeth cleaning has taken place for months now.
  24. What has this poll got to do with dog ownership. :)
  25. Right, people if this should ever happen to you (and pray to god it doesn't) lay on the ground if you are in an urban area and scream you lungs out. Should bring out a few neighbours who be could act as a witness. Nothing like having a body of people about who may be able to recognise the persons or at least help identify at a later date. Such a pity that walking your dog happily should come to this.
