  1. Can you categorically say that the double merle sire is deaf and blind? It is a possibility YES, but there are double merle who are deaf but not blind, deaf and blind in one eye/ear, have normal sight and hearing. AKC does decide who becomes a judge BUT the breeders decide who gets bred and shown. You can only judge from what is infront of you. If it so happens the most campaigned dogs in Collies that year happened to have a colour bias to Blue Merle then more Blue Merle's appear in the top listings. Another year it could be Sables left right and centre, do you blame the judges then? AKC can ban merle to merle. But it can't stop people campaigning 2 dogs because they are half siblings. That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I've seen the top 2 dogs in a breed be Father/Son, Brother/Sister. It means that those dogs were campaigned the most AND were winning regularly. Maybe they are excellent examples of the breed and it so happens that it wasn't the only one in it's litter or from the sire etc. Judges don't (and should never) judge paper pedigrees. There is a reason why dogs are enter the ring with a catalogue number attached. I agree.
  2. Does your puppy have diarrhea, that is produces water, or is it what we may call a bit lose. If your puppy is only a bit lose I would stop feeding it large amounts of food. Sometimes we feed to much and it just pushes the food through quickly and causes a lose stool.
  3. Speak to a leagal representative would be best. Also find out if it was a beach where dogs could be off lead.
  4. Exactly. I wish it would become part of the COE - breed merle to merle and you're out of the AKC/ANKC. Breeding deaf & blind puppies can't ever be for the betterment of the breed. I wonder why the stud was originally bred? Pretty colours perhaps? Arn't you a bit late on things or is it me. :) I was under the impression that merle to merle was not allowed.
  5. Not a smear campaign, unless you believe that anyone who argues for maintaining diversity is out to smear people who inbreed. A science-oriented blogger with a biology background and a deep commitment to Border Collies. . . .which extends to other herding breeds. He is deeply worried by the popular sire effect. The two collies were not entered, they were invited to enter. Creme de la creme. They aren't blind or deaf, but they were both sired by a dog who is blind and deaf. We have plenty of people in the world that may have a blind or deaf parent or even both.
  6. None at Ipswich as far as I am aware. Durack is only about 30 mins from Ipswich.
  7. One reason staff like to take the dog off you at the gate is, if "I" take the dogs away from you the dogs blame me, if "you" take the dogs to the kennel and leave "you" abandon them, yes I have found over many years this does make a difference. The dogs settle much better in most cases. Isn't that what you are looking for as an owner, that the kennel is more interested in the welfare of your dogs. If you wish to inspect a kennel make an appoint and do so, if you are happy with the kennel book the dogs in.

  9. Boy, have I learned a lesson, I'll be looking in future.
  10. I would just let the breeder know that she missed them and that you will have them removed when he is desexed. Maybe she has never had them before but the vet should have noticed them at the after whelping check. In my experience they are a dominant trait so one parent had be born with them for the puppies to have them. Maybe she used an outside stud dog this time but she needs to know to look for rear dew claws in every litter. All breeds are born with front dew claws and most have some with back dew claws. In some breeds they are all removed and in others just the back ones are removed, except for those few breeds that require them in the breed standard. I have known of the odd breeder to miss the back ones but it is pretty rare because it is something most breeders check for as routine when puppies are born. Hi, this case was refered ( one puppy with one rear dew claw) to an overseas breeder and the reply was unheard of. Just my luck I suppose. It would never dawn on me to look for rear dew claws. This is the first I have had in over 40 years of breeding and neither parent had rear dew claws and neither did any of their parents. Where it has come from is a mystery. I suppose a rear dew claw is the least of anyones problems. :) Oh yes, and by the way it was on the pick puppy.
  11. I agree ... and I add it mine where applicable ... and very proud of them I am !!! I only use BIS &/or BISS ... + 1
  12. Now, that will make our lives a lot easier won't it.
  13. Sure All Creatures Vets UK Ok - so I'm not great at computers. Having trouble finding this Vendor - I need to re-order for some more. I presume we aren't using the same Vendor as we were at the beginning of this thread? What's the current 'best' price? Just get onto e bay America or UK and type in proden and see what vendors come up and then check out who's the cheapest for the quantity you want. Don't forget to check out the postage.
  14. Yes they are on the registration certificate but it is not indicated in any way what the number is. It would only be another member that has a number that would recognise it for what it is. Lets face it, it really has no great value to anyone other than yourself. Yes we use it to enter shows and identify our selves for paid up membership and vote with but lets face it, all it is a heap of numbers on a card. If any person tried using it other than yourself it would be picked up on the computer straight away. :) Could be worth a mention to the new President of Dogs Queensland and see if she thinks its worth taking off.
  15. If it is urgent why not contact the controlling body that she is registered with and ask them to contact her and get her ring you.
  16. Firstly are the front ones removed???????. If they have been removed I would guess that the breed is not known for having back dew claws and the breeder would have never thought of looking for them. I have a breed that back dew claws are unheard of but I found one in a litter. Fortunately I found it within the time frame for me to remove the one lonley back dew claw.
  17. I am sure many will tell you you shouldn't do it, but hey they managed perfectally didn't they and you may be spot on about your dog. Good luck in 9 weeks time.
  18. Yes plenty do let the dog and bitch run together at all times. Always remember that dogs and bitches have run together for thousands of years sucessfully. It has only been a managed situation since man stepped in. Also remember we have some dogs that won't mate when there is human intervention and have to be left to get on with the job. Yes I have heard of the so called stories of disaster but I have spoken to many breeders over the years about this and they have never had one either. Sounds like they managed well on their own.
  19. Will they? I hope not - surely it has to be done in writing? Why she/he is the only person with acess to the membership number. If the person is not a member they may then require it in written form. :) Thats not true. If you have ever entered a show, trial etc the secretaries have you member ship number, anyone with a pup you have bred has your membership number and numerous other cases. I have even seen membership numbers in catalogues. For goodness sake use a bit of common sence, what show secretary is going to give out a membership number ?????? Why would a complete stranger want to use your m/ship number. Anyway most times Dog Queensland will ring you back to verify the claim. I wasn't going to say that because if a smarty was trying something on they would soon be caught out would'nt they. :) No m/ship numbers are used in Qld. catalogues. Not even addresses are used in catalogues even the Royal only uses areas not addresses.
  20. Will they? I hope not - surely it has to be done in writing? Why she/he is the only person with acess to the membership number. If the person is not a member they may then require it in written form. :)
  21. Just give Dogs Queensland a ring and give them your membership number and they will change your address.
  22. I would be more wary of the back end burps.
  23. I would then suggest that you read Jeans Dodds,of Hemo Pet, whom is considered a world authority on vaccinations. Her findings are most enlightening. :)
  24. I believe she's a wonderful example of the breed and would like to produce some excellent quality puppies just like her !! Is she currently heart and eye clear? Yes she is, I made sure of that before I purchased her Has she been Shown at all? No she hasnt I was going to suggest that that is one way of confirming if she is indeed "a good example" of the breed. Nothing like getting the feedback of several Judges and comparing how she stacks up against others of her kind. I assume she is on MR if you are considering breeding her, so you could always give her a run around the ring. Alternatively, seek out some Cavalier "Mentors" in your area and, vet check not withstanding (pattelers for eg.), see what they think of her as a breeding prospect. And also, which 'type' of dog would best compliment her. :) Hi LizT Yes she is on MR and would love to show her but time and my location does not allow unfortunately.I am a vet nurse and Im taking her for her yearly vaccination tomorrow afternoon so will speak to the vet also. Thanks for your input If you are a vet nurse, why are you taking her for yearly vaccinations when you are about to breed her. Your association with the industry surly tells you that this is incorrect. :)
