Agree. Many purchasers have never read a breed standard. In many cases the breed standard can say aloof and many purchasers can not tell the difference shy and aloof. Mouths can correct, the bottom jaw is the last of the dog to finish growing. I am not saying the above statement is correct in this case, but it is something worth while to keep in mind.

When Is The Appropriate Age To Give A Puppy Raw Meat?
oakway replied to Catarina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My puppies start on raw meat at 3 weeks. Meat is a naturel diet for dogs, but meat alone is not a good diet. What Sandra 777 says. -
Residents Warned To Keep Pets Out Of Capalaba Regional Park
oakway replied to Boronia's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well done to the council and newspaper for this timely warning. -
Not just backyard breeders !!! I have just found out that a girl we sold into an experienced show home in NSW has had a litter - she is from our H Litter they were 12 mths old on 11/09/12 - she whelped her litter on 14/11/12. Even if this was a "mistake" (and I don't believe that for one second - these people have been in dogs forever) you just wouldn't let it go to term in a 12 mth old dobermann bitch. Understand your feeling Bisart Dobes. The only consulation you may have in the future if this ruleing is accepted Australia wide then future litters not conforming to breeding age I assume will not be eligible for registration, not that, that helps the bitch.

Leaving Clam Shells With Water In Dog Runs
oakway replied to mantis's topic in General Dog Discussion
I allways had clam shells for the whippets in summer. When filled with water there was no way they could be tipped over as they are to heavey to tip. Try and lift one to empty it. :) -

It is never nice not knowing what the actual cause is, you have my sympathy. I went through a similar thing (Nothing like your case) just four days of vomiting when I introduced a new food. I'll never know if it was a bug or the food as I will not feed it again.

I know dogs that have been reared on dry all their lives and live till ripe old ages and their sires and dams before them. Whats more they were they were Australian Grand Champions. To me its a choice of what the owner wishes to feed.

Copied from a previous discussion on VIP Posted 14 December 2012 - 08:25 AM anniek, on 13 December 2012 - 10:02 PM, said: My only complaint about it - is that it should come in much bigger bags! LOL, OK anniek I think I may be able to help you here or give you some hope. I rang VIP foods and spoke to a lady about the product and this is what she said. They hope to have the product in Coles in about 2 months they are negotiating with them (Coles) at the moment about stocking the product. Also they are hoping to get it out in 8Kg bags but it appeared as though the supermarkets prefer it in small bags, could be something to do with space on their shelves I think. Keep your fingers crossed that it may be able to be purchased at another supermarket soon and that may appear in 8 Kg bags.

And the back yard breeders can still breed what they like when they like and to whom they wish. What a joke.

Yes, seems to be the case.

At birth when wet. Then I do a final look at 8 weeks.

As someone who does show neuter dogs and I see you are in Queensland - do you know if Dogs Qld has made any further statements about neuter classes than the one in 2010 that I linked earlier in the thread? Neuter classes are now available with points towards their title but the classes are NOT mandatory at each show and it is up to the individual club if they offer them. I rang the office and asked. Without the classes being mandatory I feel not much has changed.

yes..no 'slop' here. It's messy , and lapping is not easy for puppies ... I give either a large meaty bone with meat well scored , on which they initially suck..then learn to chew ..OR tiny balls of mince ... no added anything .. ..and gradually increase as needed, adding supplements /edible bone and kibble... fresh water is always available in a heavy container .. often one of those cake tins with a hole in the centre :) This stops crowding, paddling , and drowning :) Yep cake tin with the big dome in the centre. :) But here's another one you can use especially for large litters. The large biscuit/cheese platters with a dip section moulded in the centre. About $2 in the Opp Shop makes a great puppy feeding dish.

One meal a day of solid mince meat, then after about 3 days of that I offer a small amount to each pup individually twice a day. After about 4 to 5 days of this I start to feed them all together. I soak a small mount of dry and start to add that to the mince and build that up to what I consider a normal amount. Then when they are doing well on this I introduce chicken necks at about 5 to 6 weeks.

I Need Some Calcium (sandoz) Syrup Quickly
oakway replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes I use while they are whelping and dose or two after. (My bitches have no calcium problems after whelping. I just have it there to make sure they get plenty while whelping.) It is a high dose Calcium supplement. -
I Need Some Calcium (sandoz) Syrup Quickly
oakway replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Go to the chemists and purchase some CalSource Ca1000 Does exactly the same thing and NO loose stools to contend with. Just put one tablet into a half glass of water and use when you want to. Keep it stired as it can settle on the bottom of the glass. -
Why don't you use the standard DOL one.
-
Wait and get a pure bred from a reputable registered breeder that is registered with your states controlling body. This way you will have full back up from the breeder and be able to get a history, something from a pound could be a problem with not knowing any history and lets be honest, why take on someone else's problem from a pound. Many of the dogs are in there because they were failures, it's only a few dogs that get there through no fault of their own.

What Shampoo Do You Use And Why?
oakway replied to skyehaven's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
All Plush Puppy products. As the dogs are shown just about weekly they can often be bathed before a show and after it ready for the next one the next day. :) -

As I said in the beginning Jed this election would not be about those that voted, but about those that did not vote.
