I would like to tell all of you about my experience with worming puppies. I always start to worm my pups at 2 weeks and then every 2 weeks there after. I go to the trouble of weighing my pups so they get a correct dose. I was using a well known brand of puppy wormer liquid. I have always used another brand but was not able to purchase it this time. At six weeks I gave tablets to the pups and after about 4 to 6 hours you should have seen what came out of those pups. The round worm infestation was so great I rang the vet. Now this the funny part...the vet said good bring them in I need some round worms to show clients what they look like.!!!!!!!!. When I took the collected worms in the poor vet nearly had a fit. When I said they had a worm burden I meant a worm burden. All the pups just poo'd round worms no poo. Well the vet got his worms and I eventually got rid of the last of the worms. But this goes to show you can purchase of the vet the top brand of puppy wormer and still have worms. I also reported this to the company and had the the rep come out. Now this story has a strange twist to it, I was speaking to my friend in Tasmania and mentioned the worm episode and she replied that she had the same problem with her own litter of pups. (not the same breed) She had also used the same product as me. Please don't always blame breeders, their are some of us whom do the right thing by our pups and clients and can still get caught through no fault of their own. Cheers.

Are you talking weeks or months early de sexing ?. Cheers.

I think it's pretty good. I think Artemis has better ingredients. Why do you cook mince ? I cook up mince with mixed vegetables, some stock, and bag it up for a serving each and freeze it. I usually make up enough for about three weeks. What we mean is why do you cook it?. Cooked vegetables is a waste of time as dogs do not absorb any of the nutrients. Vegetables contain cellulose and dogs can not digest cellulose. If you want to feed veges they must be pulverized to liquid. Add the veges and fruit (if you want to) mix to the meat and freeze. Add some meaty bones and hey presto no cooking to do.

And people wonder why we complain about vets. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Licking Her Ummm Private Parts

Could she be becoming a little bit incontinent and is just keeping herself clean. -
Hi, Meat is meat where ever you purchase it. The only difference is, what you purchase from the butcher/supermarket has been hygienically processed for human consumption. What you get for pet food has not necessarily been processed in the same manor.

Yes, definitely pros and cons. But I think this is mainly for the town and suburbs where people have large neighbor problems. Still does not mean that the occasional snake may be encountered in the newer outer suburbs. It's for the owner to weigh up what is best.....death or de bark. I am in the country and I still have a dog or two de barked. I also have dogs that only bark when something is not right.
-
Yes Rysup, maybe we should also be educating the public better. I have seen life improve for the dogs concerned as one is not constantly growling (pardon the pun) back at it to shut up. I had a Sheltie many moons ago that would constantly bark and spin in circles and the dog would not put on weight. After de barking all the spinning and barking stopped and the dog put on weight. After that I thought the dog may have been sending himself neurotic from it's own barking. The neighbors were thrilled. :p

I suppose that I shall get shot down in flames but here goes. Maybe we should be "Lobbying" to get this procedure made fully legal. Just stop for a minute and think. No more neighbor disputes, no more council visits, no more punch ups over barking dogs. Also, remember the case where a person died after a dispute over a dog. It's a simple procedure down the throat and takes only a few minutes. The dog's vocal cords are cauterized and the dog STILL barks but at a soft level that will not bother the neighbors or anybody else. I believe this is better answer than euthanasia.

Sorry to hear that may think that he could have taken another fit. Don't forget That hounds can suffer from thyroid deficiencies and many have recovered from taking fits by the addition of Thyroxine. A simple blood test at the vets is all that's required to determine the Thyroids activity..
-
Have his Thyroid tested if he continues to have fits. It is now known that a low Thyroid can cause fitting. Dogs have been known to take fits if they have been over vaccinated. My Whippets only receive two DHP vaccines one before 3 months and one at about 4 months and then I Titre test for antibodies. If antibodies are present no more vaccine is required as the anti bodies last for life. Cheers.

labsrule, agree with you there, cannot fathom why they would deviate from the original "recipe". At a rough guess,........................ninimum outlay for maximum profit.
-
My vet suggests every 3 years Once the dog has anti bodies in their system they are there for life.
-
Just how many vaccinations does your vet do ?. One at eight weeks and one after 12 weeks, maybe at about 4 months, then titre test for anti bodies.

What do I use...... I use Nobivac DHP, made in Australia at Bendigo. Why ?. Because it has less distance to travel. I am not sure how well some other brands are packaged to travel around the world.

Hi, Go and have a look at the ones for sale on DOL classifieds. Look on the bottom of this page. You may get lucky and find just what you want. May even be close to you. If you don't have an out let you will have to spray the water out and bucket out the rest.

Yes some dogs do it as as a nasty habit but there is also a condition where the dog lacks a digestive enzyme, Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Another cause can be that the dog's diet doesn't have enough protein in it and to many carbs. Pineapple doesn't work. It may not have worked for you but it has worked for thousands of others. Yes, some dogs do have a digestive problem, but they are few and far between, unless you have it in a specific line or lines or if you have a breeds that may be prone to it..
-
No problems here and I feed all the dogs on chicken frames.

Golden's, please do not use capitals. It is considered very rude and implies that you are yelling. Capitals are usually used to emphasize words. Cheers.
-
Thousands of dog all over the world have a habit of eating Poo. Some give up after a while and some never stop. It has NOTHING to do with their diet or lack of vitamins, they just do it. If you want to stop the dog from doing it go and by some cheap plain label Pineapple and add that to the dog food. Cheers.

Their has been a strong thought that it also can be connected with prostrate problems when the penis slips forward while the dog is in a straining position. I have seen this happen to young dogs also but it appears to be more prone to older dogs.
-
Hi, No worries, the dog will have been wormed. It takes about 20/ 30 minutes for them to get into the stomach. Its when they bring them straight up, lets say ten minutes, you start to wonder. Good Luck.
-
How long did the dog keep the tablets down ?.
-
Did you ever top to think that the vet is correct. Just because you accept the dog the way it is doesn't mean the dog isn't hypo. I see lots of dogs that are hypo and the owners think that is the way their dog behaves. Some owners create a hypo dog through the food they feed. As long as your happy with the dog that way.

Death breath and that lingering smell on your hands that makes eating lunch suddenly not so attractive. You've nevers said a truer word....Death Breath....Had a friend that insisted on taking one of these dog in the car at all times.
