Hold it horizontally with the coarsest sanding cylinder there is on it. Hold the nail and press down on the rotating cylinder.. Edited to add. Just had a thought are you right or left handed. Use it in your right hand, in the left it may be going in the wrong direction.

Oakway, KCC is open to general dog owning public as well as triallers and showies. I'd just rather be sure.
-
I for one would say that KCC Park would be the best place to take a puppy. Any other permanent show ground should be safe also. Do you know of anybody that would take an un vaccinated dog to these areas. A far safer place than a community dog park. Also with the newer vaccination protocols = one vaccination before 12 weeks and one after your puppy should be alright.

I also agree. Me to.

Just wishing you all the farts in the world along with the burps. I am sure you will have a happy healthy boy in the morning. Please keep us all up to date. If the rescue remedy is out I suggest YOU start on the Brandy. Good Luck. -
Try googling Optimum. Yes I use the adult small/medium for baby puppies, because most new owners can find it in a local supermarket. I do not feed babies puppy food as they grow to quick on it. Do what the vet said (orthopedic) grow then slow and I won't see them later on.

Any dried or smoked bones can be a potential health hazard for any dog.

How Many Times A Day Should A Dog "go" No. 2's?
oakway replied to LizT's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Are any of these brands Australian Made? What difference would it make as to where it is made. ?.If it is better for your dog. I purchase what suits the dogs best. -
sas No, the OP asked about getting their dog white. The nose was just part of it. They are wanting to show. Could be a lot of work getting the whites, white enough to show.. Could even come down to stripping and bleaching the coat out. That could be a lot of work and money wasted if the dog is not show quality. :p
-
If the dog has not been shown before, 4 years of grime may hard to move. Are you sure the dog is of show quality ?. It might be wise to get the dog assessed by the breeder.

Latest Recommended Vaccination Schedule
oakway replied to yellowgirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
You'd think so wouldn't you. I can't understand if the research has been done, why companies are still bringing out annual vaccines. It wasn't that long ago (6months maybe?) that we had a rep come by trying to push their new particular vaccine, which was still an annual, and their selling point was how it had a stronger hit on the immune system and so was more reliable, or something ridiculous. I think annual check-ups are still really important, though, and people shouldn't stop going in for check-ups simply because they're not getting vaccines. Companies will be the last to change as they have their shareholders to think of. They don't think of the animals as we do. They just think about making a profit. -
Yes, you were one of the lucky ones. Now days it's nothing to what it was when it first hit. I do remember a vet in Tas. along with a lot others using the cat flu vaccine.
-
You know its that long ago now I have difficulty in remembering exactly. Could be well over 30 years ago. If I remember correctly It first started in WA, and within a day or two it was in SA then Vic and then hit us bad in Tas. That was what I called the real Kennel Cough. As far as I can remember there was no secondary infection, that was it Kennel Cough and that's what it did.
-
I see so many questions about Kennel Cough. What most of you describe, to me is nothing but a common problem called Husk. Lets go back to the beginning. The first start of Kennel Cough. The dogs started this terrible hacking cough. It didn't stop it was continuous. The dog had pus in their eyes and from the nostrils. They could do nothing, some were so bad they could not stand. The vets tried so hard but it was something so new to all of us. Then the the dogs were coughing blood. They coughed so bad the blood was sprayed on the walls from ruptured lungs and then you knew that their was little hope or I should say NO hope of survival. Whole kennels were wiped out. Especially some Greyhound Kennels. It was the most pitiful time I have ever spent in dogs. We are lucky now days, what with the help of preventative medicines and vaccines. I hope this gives some of you an incite to what the original out break of Kennel Cough was like. By the way if your dog has a nasty cough no matter what, seek advise and treatment.

Latest Recommended Vaccination Schedule

Just got to ask yellowgirl - when you "ring around" do you speak to the vet or to the underpaid kid on the front desk? I think you might find that if you actually spoke to the vets in the practice you would get a whole different story than you get from the girl on the phone (I know I do!) ETA: Gotta wonder about the internet hoax thing though! When the MDBA hosted Dr. Dodd's seminars in Australia, I phoned around to gauge support from vets. I only spoke to veterinrians, and the result was 90% totally uninterested. They were not interested in doing anything except annual vacs, and most of those with whom I spoke hadn't heard about "new" vaccination protocols,(since 1998 in North America, wasn't it?) and were appalled that there was some possibility that dogs (and cats) might not be having annual vacs. And they didn;t want to go with it, so whomever Yellow girl spoke to gave her similar responses to those I received. This was raised at an AVA conference some years, but there was no resolution. The AVA was again asked earlier this year if they intended changing the vaccination protocol. The response was that they were "looking into it" *sigh* Sad isn't it. The attitude of some of the Veterinary Practitioners leaves a lot to be desired. It also leaves one with the attitude that some Vets are less honorable than others and the desire for dollars can in some cases be more important than the animals health. -
Have you had him checked yet for Thyroid deficiency. This is one of the most common problems for causing hounds to fit.

I think the term that we are looking for is......I feed by eye. It sometimes concerns me that I see where people say feed a % of the dogs weight. My answer would be what if the dog is very active....what if the the dogs metabolism is greater than the next.....what if...........what if........ I find it's better to tell new owners if it looks thin it most probably is and feed more until it looks right. The same if it looks to fat. I also have noticed that owners of more square and muscled breeds think that the slightly oblong dog at a good weight can look thin to many.

Don't Think It's Poisoning, Do You?
oakway replied to suezija's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Suez, What about a spider bite. Another thing you might not believe is that I found a cane toad in the yard the other day. Well it's worth thinking about. Not much difference in the temperature from my place to yours so it may be worth a think. Although one would think a bit of frothing would of occurred. I also found a red back so be careful. -
The bad breath could be from Tonsillitis. He may just of hurt his gums chewing.
