Most of us use Cocktail Saveloy's as bait in the ring.

Sorry, but I can't see what all the fuss is about paying $3000 for a dog. I know of people that pay much more than that for a top quality dog. If your wealthy and can afford to purchase a top dog, good on you. I only pray that it is my breed and it is brought to Australia and I can use it at stud.

Oakway I think its time that breeders starting getting a message to that section of the general public who want to buy a puppy in the future. "Start saving for it NOW!" We see people clamouring for more and more laws with regard to animal breeding. Lots of young impressionable students see this is as a wonderful thing. Well, the upshot of all those extra laws is that there will be fewer and fewer people wanting to breed good dogs for those same students when they want to buy a puppy for their children in a few years time. For most Australians "Europe" is where you save to go for a holiday, or it is where some of your ancestors came from. The concept of Europe's laws and fanatical attitudes being responsible for them having to pay thousands of dollars for a puppy .....is just way too ...... hellllooooo Souff, what the hell are you talking about now? Dont expect people to understand later. Too late then. "Oh, you cant find a breeder in Queensland anymore?" Oh, really? And you cant find one in Victoria either? How odd. Nobody knows why the breeders of that particular breed cant be found anymore!!!! And they bred such lovely dogs!!!! At least if people are publicly warned now, "Yes, some breeders will stick around and continue to breed under a barrage of new laws and restrictions, but you can expect to pay a lot more for puppies in the future" they cant say they weren't warned. But they will probably blame the increased prices on global warming anyway ........ Souff I agree with you whole heartedly. I also think "that" day is approaching us faster than most believe.

In the future you are going to find many breeds of puppy are expensive. Not just British Bulldog puppies. This is the future that puppy buyers now face. In Europe today, breeds such as British Bulldogs have had bans slapped on them, because fanatics have decreed that the features of these breeds must disappear. Features that have been around a very long time. Fanatics are declaring that all BBs must have a "pump handle tail". Few people today would know what a pump handle tail looks like on a British Bulldog! Australia does what Europe does, like it or not. There are not a lot of BB breeders around. So, there are a not a lot of BB puppies around. Do you know what happens when lovely things become "hard to get"? The price goes UP. We are looking at a future where syndicates and trust funds will be needed to keep breeds such as the British Bulldog around for future generations to enjoy. They wont be a puppy that you will be able to buy on the open market. They will be a collectors item and will only be able to be purchased by wealthy people who have an interest in breeding. This is the future for many breeds of dog. $3000 for a British Bulldog puppy? It is now an investment, it is no longer just a pet. Souff edited cos the brain went out to lunch You never said a truer word ;)

$3000 sounds about the right price. Have any of you asked the stud fee's for Bulldogs ?. What with the cost of an out of hours C section and 24/7 care and even then the loss rate can be high, plus all the necessary test to try and produce good healthy ones I would not complain about the price.

Take the pup to the vet and have the eye checked out. It may have just scratched the eye and an eye ulcer may be forming. Keep the pup in the dark or in a dark as possible room, do not let it out in the sun. If possible take it out to relieve its self in the most shaded areas.

Ooohhhhhh all those Worms You have my heart felt sympathy. It's a shame nothing can be done about the camp dogs legally, they are nothing but a pestiferous nuisance
-
Absolutely not. They are the ones running around spreading parvo, distemper and hepatitis around the town Ive been in this town 18 months and Ive seen 3 cases of hepatitis (CAV), 5 cases of distemper and 10 cases of parvo per week on average. Its ridiculous Just wondered if there was a pro gramme running to vaccinate the camp dogs. (pretty difficult to do) As camp dogs are biggest problems in some areas. Yes, we know camp dogs spread every thing.
-
Cavalier, Would the majority of the dogs vaccinated be camp dogs ?.
-
Hi, If I was was in your position I would try and find a vet that uses the Nobivac C3 and give at 10 weeks. (I find that the Nobivac causes the least problems and has about a 36 hour vaccination period....well so my vet said) As for kennel cough that is up to you. Yes, you are correct many Boarding Kennels will not take in a boarder that has not had Kennel Cough.
-
This discussion was not about vaccine reactions. The OP asked our views on what and when we as breeders used. We gave those views. I have gone through the Jean Dodd's seminar notes and can find NO reference given by Jean Dodd's to vaccination causing Cancer, Thyroid etc.
-
Hey, wait a minute, hang on, I am not talking about adverse reactions to vaccines. (I have had them) I am talking about Autoimmune problems caused by over vaccination.
-
So don't get mad with me for asking you to clarify or back up the information you provide. I have an inquiring mind too. Turns out Dr Jean Dodds is much more conservative in what she claims about vaccine side effects than many people on this thread have been (although obviously much more convinced of the importance of vaccine side effects than many vets are)... interesting to get the info straight from the horse's mouth. Thanks for the email address, Oakway. Something just popped into my thoughts. You said you had mailed Jean Dodds so why thank me for the addy. You must have already had it. I also would like a copy of her reply.

Hmm, didn't think the vets needed to "stand up for their profession". Where was the profession questioned? I must have missed that. *sigh* She's published I dunno how many papers, some is opinion, a lot is researched facts. *sigh* I sigh along with you. Why is it that when people have been breeding longer than some people have been vets or for that matter been alive.....think that some us of don't keep abreast of the times. There are some of us that are dedicated breeders and we want to do the best for our dogs and the clients who purchase them. The only way we can do this is to keep abreast of the times. Yes, we speak to the TOP people in their field and yes, they give us answers. Then we tell the vet. Shouldn't that be the other way round.? Then you all wonder why we get cranky with SOME vets.!!! Then you wonder why when we inform people on lists. Usually this knowledge that we have acquired is first put into practice on our own litters and we find that it works. Don't get mad with us because we have inquiring minds.

Give her an e-mail. She will only to happy to oblige. Jean Dodds E-mail Address(es): [email protected]

How many dogs are "many"? And can you please link to the studies about non-response to vaccines being associated with being a breed predisposed to immune disorders. The only relevant studies I've seen showed that the vast majority of dogs seroconverted after vaccination for parvo. It is a shame that we breeders & pet owners dont have statistics for you on websites & books, perhaps you can ask the expert in the field to get a list of breeds & some sort of stats...Australia is very poor in such things as we have no experts here. But email Dr Jean Dodds, she visited Australia last year & educated many folk, sadly, I only know of ONE Vet that turned up at the Sydney lecture, and they were very impressed & enlightened afterward. What a shame that all Vet clinics & universities werent represented to learn about immunity. There are many of us who take our knowledge from the world authorities not the local vet.

In all my years in dogs I NEVER seen or heard a dog with kennel cough at a show. I try to tell people that kennel cough, as in real kennel cough, is so bad that the dogs rupture their lungs and spray blood ever where. The grunty coughs that you hear now days is what I have been hearing as husk for as long as I can remember.

Eight to ten weeks C3 after 3 months C3. No kennell cough vacc.

Hi loulouB, What you have been told is correct. -
First Chewing Gum, Then Wd40, Then Dish Washing Liquid!
oakway replied to Sam&Saki's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Dunno about this..................... Think of all those spot-on flea/ tick treatments that are absorbed thru skin e.g. Advantix, Frontline. I was told that they bond to the coat. That is why it is best not put on right after a bath. It is best put on a day or two after as it bonds better to the coat. If this has changed, I am sure people will let me know. Dogs do not sweat through their skin they sweat through their mouth and feet. If fluid carn't get out it will not be able to get in. :D -

WD40 will bring out chewing Gum. It's only oil. Just wash the area well after use. Dogs don't absorb through their skin. -
Ear Infection Getting Worse With Treatment
oakway replied to no longer registered's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
chocobo When you make the Malaseb up use a spray bottle and keep the Malaseb flowing through the ear for about a minute. You may find that lots of gunk will flow out. Keep this up once a day for five days. Then see how it is coming along. Some ear infections can also come from the food the dog is being fed. Some ear infections may mean allergies. -
Ahhhhh, reading down the page you beat me to it.
