  1. If your dog is not standing to your satisfaction, have you checked that it's back is not out. It may be to uncomfortable to hold a stacked position. Just a thought.
  2. I am sure there are many of us that use Panacur. Yes it is a good safe product. I have had it dispensed by a University for a dog with chronic whip/hook worm burden. This dog had been wormed with every known product to no avail and the Panacur is the only thing that worked.
  3. Budget for it......on a pension Well yes, from puppy money and the other things that some do to earn extra on the side, like dog bathing and grooming.Yes things can be hard on limited income but it can be done. I wish it were that easy! As much as I sacrfice and try to save money for interstate jaunts, I'm still hard pressed to afford to travel to shows in Northern Tasmania!! I maintain that for the "average" exhibitor, interstate travel is difficult and getting more difficult as the airlines make it so. And not everybody is in the position of being able to add at least 2 days each side of their trip for travel by ferry either OR come to that is able to get to Devonport by road from the Southern part of the State to get on the boat in the first place with dogs. I'm not saying it CAN'T be done....as I said in my post with careful planning and budgeting, it CAN be done. But unfortunately not for many of us. I live in Tasmania by choice....I don't make a habit of complaining about living here because having lived in other States, I KNOW it is one of the best places to be...but regardless of whether you agree or not, it IS hard to get to the mainland for shows on a regular basis unless you have a money tree or a private jet. Just out of curiosity how far is it from mainland Aust to Tassie and can anyone give an approx cost of say a car and trailer on the ferry? I have never looked into going there and it is quite a travel for me to even consider, but I am asking these questions simply so I may get a bit of an idea of the potential obstacles invovled in travelling from Tasmania to the mainland or vica versa. Really just after a perspective. Sway put up the costs in this thread earlier. $79 each way per car, trailers are extra. I wish it was I would be on the mainland showing. Don't forget add a dog trailer plus your fare with sleeping accomadation + food. Then double it because you have to come back. 4. If you are having problems with washing it, just throw it over the line and give it a good hosing. It will be just as clean. I use the jet setting on my hose gun.
  5. Troy is a one dose only. I do the pups with it at 2 weeks and at 4 weeks I use Paratak Plus tablets.
  6. Yep we have Panacur, it's good but a pain to have give it 3 days in a row.
  7. You will find it much easier if you follow a rib up and cut where the ribs meet. Their is a soft briskey gap that is easy to cut through. If not get the AXE.
  8. I would be giving a Lab. 10 to 20 ml of sandoz.
  9. I have been using the Troy puppy suspension for years now.
  10. Congratulations on your new family. Now you start with the G T W's, Great Time Wasters I also call Foal's that to.
  11. I am against any radius being implemented what so ever. I believe it's my right of choice should I wish to not to attend what ever breed/breeds I have at the time National. As it is yours and any other persons in this country. I am most happy to stay home should I wish to. But what annoys me and many others why does a show somewhere else have to miss out on entries because there is a National on in the state. Now lets go back to the original post. How many dogs were entered ? Now, would those owners given that club those entries had they know that challenges were not on offer ?. Clubs can not afford to lose entry money. Now as to getting off the Apple Isle. No one has said you can't get off, but it can be more difficult arranging times and dates. Let's face it you can only leave when the plane and boat does. It also appears that flight times are no where near as frequent as some mainland ones. All costs are x 2 as you have to come back. I was told it would cost me nearly $1000 to get my car and trailer to Melb. with over night sleeping for me. All these costs are prepaid and if you could not go, I do not know what refunds would be made available, if any. If you live on the mainland and don't go to the show you have entered for, all you lose is the entry fees. All of us here stand to lose a great deal more. Yes, you mainland people have have a distinct advantage, you hop in the car and go where ever you like should the moment arise. You don't know the luxury of it till you have lived here and then lived on the Mainland. I could get in the car and go to whatever shows I wanted any where in the country when ever I wanted to. When you live here you just can't do it that easy or that often, because of the cost factor. This state should be exempt from the 1000 km rule. NT and WA are basically exempt from this rule because of their distances from other states.
  12. I doubt it, it's not like you would do it every weekend or month. That's just the problem, we can't go. You can get in your car and go. You don't have to use sea or air. When you live in this state you are at distinct disadvantage when it comes to going to interstate shows. So why should we be discriminated against.
  13. Yes for the Royal, and if the judges are to my liking i would return again tomorrow. I get sea sick, yet i would do it again. I have friends who go over every year, sometimes twice for both Royals. Im currently showing in NSW 550kms from home, surprise surprise it cost me money to get here Yes SwaY, you loaded the car and got in and drove away. What we are trying to explain is that this state is discriminated against because we can't do that. The costs are just to great to be able to participate for the average worker with a family and lord knows how pensioners would ever cope. Many of our older dog show people would possibly be on a pension. Why should the 1000 km rule discriminate against them going to a dog show and not be able to receive a challenge. and have some fun. Just because there is a National on in Melbourne what has that to do with us. Those that can afford the trip by air or sea do it. Good luck to them for being able to, no one begrudges them, but their are a lot of exhibitors that are not that fortunate to be able to so. Why discriminate against them just because the costs are to great. If most of us could drive to Melbourne I am sure we would. I was born here and lived a large part of my life here and I can assure you that strip of water can make one HUGE difference.
  14. SwaY, no is using the sea as an excuse What we are trying to say is that it is difficult and costly to get off the Island. Good heavens people know I drive from Queensland to Victoria for a dog show and many times at that. That there in lies the problem, its not as easy as getting in the car and setting off. It can be very costly to get yourself and dog on the plane or boat. As for a group on the plane they just don't have the space for the dogs. As I said in a prior post I had to have the dog trailer (Toledo large 4 birth) inspected by the vet before I could use it on the Boat. The cost of car, dog trailer and somewhere to sleep over night can be beyond the means of some. I keep saying why should we be discriminated against (1000 km rule) because it can be a pain the proverbial to get of the Island.
  15. Thanks for all the replys, as it is building a picture as to what is allowed. Also appears that it is only a morning and night flight to use from both airports, Launceston and Hobart. Not much of a choice but we must be thankful for those.
  16. Thanks for that as it appears to be the same in Launceston. I was flat out yesterday I did not have time to do the enquiries myself. Also just having used the Spirit of Tasmania with car and dog trailer the over all length of trailer and car are charged for. Plus you MUST have The Spirit of Tas. signed documentation by a veterinary surgeon that the dog trailer is suitable to carry dogs, and I assure you the vet charges for this. Also be able to provide evidence that the dogs have have been hydatid wormed before entry.
  17. Would somebody please advise this topic if this correct. This only applies to Launceston airport. One flight in of a morning and night. One flight out of a morning and night. Of these flights which can take dogs and up to what size?. Rule out Tiger as they do not carry dogs.
  18. It's a fact, it's not easy getting dogs in or out of Tasmania. Nobody said it could not be done. What a lot of people are saying is that it is to costly to be done for some. The 1000 km rule does discriminate against those that can not go to Nationals. This rule even discriminates against people in Victoria that can't attend Nationals and other states to. In this day and age with the ever decreasing dog showing population this rule can stop people attending their local show. Lets say you live in Mildura, their is a three day weekend of showing and a popular breed National in Melbourne, and you for personal reasons can't go, are you going to enter your dogs if you know full well their are no challenges on offer for your breed, I can't answer for you but I can tell you I wouldn't be giving the club an entry and neither would a lot of others I guess. Clubs need entry fees to survive. As I said before would the club in Hobart received the entries they did if they had known that they couldn't have offered challenges.
  19. How is an interstate flight from Tassie to Melbourne different to an interstate flight from anywhere else in Australia to melbourne? Genuine question. Many of the flights that come here do not accommodate dogs. see the post by ellz.
  20. Lovely to hear. Good luck with them.

Well put ellz, I am not complaining because I came back to Tasmania, It was my choice, the fact that challenges were not awarded does not even effect me, I am a group one person now. I have only been able to afford to go to one show at Churchill Park and the other entry that I sent for group one obviously did not get to the secretary LOL. But I still believe that this state should be exempt from the 1000 km rule. I feel that the 1000km rule is discrimination and this country that is not allowed.
  22. Budget for it......on a pension Well yes, from puppy money and the other things that some do to earn extra on the side, like dog bathing and grooming.Yes things can be hard on limited income but it can be done. Yes your quite right IF you breed and IF you have a Hydro bath. It will also depend what kind of pension you may be on. It would also depend on where you live. I still say this state should be exempt from the 1000 Km rule. The club concerned where the challenges were not offered still received entries, would they have received those entries if the club had known that they could not offer challenges ?. In this day and age NO club can afford to lose income, especially when the only way to get off the Island is by sea or air. If you can afford to go to the Mainland shows, good on you for supporting them. If you can afford to fly to your clubs Nationals , Specialities or the State Royals good on you, but remember their are lot of people left behind that should not be denied the right to attend a dog show and receive a Challenge a BOB and maybe go onto BIS just because a National was held in Victoria.
  23. Hi, How about giving your local vet a ring, they will be able to give you the full details.
  24. agree although it would be great if the could print the correct version on ANKC. The 50 challenge breed rule i have never seen published until now so you have 2 different qualifying tools listed on one site Uh ha the plot thickens
