Who said Tasmania wants a German Shepherd National ? . I am quite sure the German Shepherd Club of Tasmania are fully capable of speaking up should they wish to host one. This discussion has nothing to do with German Shepherds. It just happened that an owner of this breed was the OP . This discussion started because we are an Island and its dam hard (but not impossible) to get off. It's not like we just get into our cars and drive. Every National on the eastern Seaboard can effect the status of a show depending where it is held in Tasmania.

Hi Keshwar, I am going to put my normal signature on the bottom of this reply. :D After seeing it do you really think dog showing would reduce me to tears. I more than likely may not even go to a show if a National was on for my two breeds, I might not even like the judge that is judging on the day. I could possibly show my other breed and have a lovely day. But it's not about me, it's about all the others that will miss out on points just because of the 1000 km rule and the fact they can't attend their National for various reasons. Why punish them with no points. ;) Jill Marks Oakway Whippets [email protected] The Home Of Champions BIS BISS + INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONS.

No one is saying you can't enter. Good on those that did. I am sure the club appreciated the entries. :D But why should those exhibitors be discriminated against because they did not go to their National. I have never been to a Whippet National and as far as I am aware I never will be able to. (unless I win Lotto LOL) But why stop me from taking my dogs to a show where I can obtain points. Is that punishment because I didn't go ?. Remember I did say those that did not go were discriminated against. So be careful with your answers. ;) I have also said those that live a long way away only have to keep going to a local show that is out of the 1000 km zone and may show with points. Again, why should I suffer just because I live closer to the National and can't afford to go.

No it isn't. In cockers a specialty will attract approx 50 entries (if it is lucky) a National will attract approx 300. A National (cockers) MUST have a British A list judge, a big cost to the club holding the National. They are also a 2 day show with a presentation dinner, huge prizes and held every 2 years in a different state. Not in WA, NT or TAS because there are no breed clubs to hold it. So very very different to a specialty!! If you really want a National in Tas then approach your breed club. I voted no CCs Aust wide. I don't care what you call it it's still only a breed show for cockers. Or any other breed for that matter with the name National. We are not talking about individual breeds we are discussing the 1000 km rule. I just don't understand why any of the dog showing fraternity would want to do a local poll and vote to ban points being offered anywhere in Australia and stop clubs from receiving the normal amount of entries for that breed when the owners were not going to attend the National anyway. Sorry I fail to see the logic in that.

Sounds fair to me Megz.

We agree with you, it won't "HURT" any of us to stay at home. But why should we, when we can go to and support another show if points were offered It appears to me that if the original poster had known that no points were on offer they would not have entered the show. Especially, when in this state as it can rather difficult and costly to get out of, and said previously we just can't get in the car and drive there. If people want to go, they will be there, but don't discriminate against those that couldn't or carn't go. We have two other states have distance problems also, but they are not effected by the 1000 km rule, we are. As far as I am aware, any Nationals held in Vic., SA., Can. and NSW will effect this state depending on where the show is held. This rule does not bring more entries to a National than those that wish to enter. All it does is stop other clubs within the 1000 km radius getting entries because no points are available on that day. If it was no points Australia wide, the Clubs would be screaming because of the loss of entries in the numerically large breeds.

We hear of such things on this list from time to time. The emergency centres are the worst. I would write a complaint to the relevant veterinary board. I am so pleased that you rang Fair Trading. Should be more of it and put a few of these vets that trade on peoples emotions at a tragic time in their place. Some vets are left with huge unpaid bills and dishonest people can cause us great angst when we are willing to pay. So sorry for the loss of your loved one.

Tedington said. love greyhounds but i have a cat and a rabbit so i think i would be waiting quite a long time for a suitable dog. another reason i would like a pup, so they are exposed to the other pets from a young age. Hi, If it helps and you say you do like Greyhounds, you can purchase a baby puppy from a registered reliable breeder of show (exhibition) greyhounds in your state. Also the GAP Greyhounds are fully temperament tested before they are allowed to live with you. Many sleep with cats and various other animals.

Not in this day and age their are some who can't afford to do that. Crikey that's like going and buying a lottery ticket and knowing your number is not going to be put in. Not likely.

Just skimmed through the April - May Gazette. There are 2 shows in there. Yep once you take out breed shows and all the obedience and agility there are only 2 champ shows. I'll take every opportunity I can get to show my dog locally thanks, that's the point. If there was a Breed show on the mainland somewhere in those 2 months that would mean we only get 1 show! I know this sounds like just whinging and moaning but I think we do have a point, even if not everyone sees or agrees with it, it doesn't make it any less valid. And everyone keeps bringing up WA and Darwin... they would fall outside the km radius wouldn't they? You think you have a small number of shows?? From September to March we have 1 show a month, of any description - be it Specialty or Championship. Perhaps the clubs could have moved the show to a weekend either side of the National instead of having it on the same weekend, if there as few shows as us, and the Nationals give you plenty of notice of when and where they will be help giving plenty of time for the club to approach TCA to have the date adjusted. There are so many ways around this rule that don't require people to feel hard done by and like they've missed out. You could try having to fork out $1000 at the minimum per weekend of showing away from home. Even to travel within our own state it is 1500km drive to the bottom of the NT. I rarely hear the NT showers complaining about the distance and logistics of showing down south, recently a GSD exhibitor sent her dog down for the Specialty, I didn't hear her complaining about freight costs one way which would have been more than the ferry costs return total. Hi Megz People in WA, NT and Tas are at a disadvantage when we wish to travel. We are ever mindful of the distances that some other states have to travel, but at least you are not effected by the 1000 km rule. You are not going to make people go to shows they don't want to for various reasons by not offering points for that particular breed at other shows.
-
No one is stopping them supporting another club, THEY themselves are because they can't get CC points. At last some one has got the message. :D Who is going to go if no points are offered. So all clubs miss out on that particular breed through out Australia. Not on in my books. Just do away with the 1000 km rule. :p Really that's just being dog in the manger. (if I can't go no else can) ;) In my eyes and mine only (and I'm known for calling a spade a shovel) a National is another name for a Speciality, well..... only the same breed there. At a speciality the 1000 km rule doesn't apply so why at breed show with just another name.
-
But the Canine Association DIDN"T notify the club......NOT THE CLUB'S FAULT. Oh Ok , dont bite my head off :D What I was trying to say was, that's what I thought the original post was actually about or maybe I'm on the wrong track anyway, as per normal :p I meant it more as a comment, not so much as it's "THAT CLUB'S" fault, sorry I forgot that someone said 20 pages ago, the post has gone so far off topic , ;) that it was the Canine Councils fault, for not notifying the club, Anyway I'm of to do the poll No we are not off topic this is all about the 1000 km rule and many of us think that in this day and age it should be done away with. It is wrong to stop people from getting a challenge and supporting another club other than the National that may be on that day. What is being said is some people can't go for varying reasons and because challenges are not offered within 1000km radius all the clubs then miss out. Not only that, when you live in Tasmania it can be a pain in the butt and costly to get off the Island.

I think that is blowing it WAY out of proportion. Anyway, i'm voting for Australia Wide. Why stop people going out and supporting the club of their choice and having a bit of fun, isn't that what Dog Shows should be about, having fun. Because it is a breed NATIONAL, a show that should showcase the best the country has to offer. I am not having a go at you for not being able to get there, unfortunately some circumstances do mean people can't get to it. In fact i am an example. I recently missed the Lab National because work wouldn't allow me to have it off. It wouldn't phase me in the least (obviously i am supporting it) that the show here on that weekend didn't allow CCs for Labs. I do have a problem with people thinking they can get an easy ride when Nationals are on ( not necessarily you or anyone else in this debate), i see it too often. Yes I fully understand what you are saying and appreciate it, but would it really hurt if some person got a challenge at another show. Just think how happy they would be. Would it really matter that much ?. Times and people are changing. Look at this way if I lived 900 km away and their was a show on 150 km away I could go and get a challenge but the person that lives near the show can't show at any show within a 1000 km and get points, now that's not fair. If people don't want attend a national why stop them supporting another club that can use the entry fees.
-
We know we can't get points that's what we are complaining about. ;) Are you going to pay entries let's say 4 dogs knowing full well you can't be awarded anything but a first in your class. That's not fun. You miss out and so does the club. In this day and age of falling entries clubs can't afford the loss.
-
I think that is blowing it WAY out of proportion. Anyway, i'm voting for Australia Wide. No it's not :D , that's just what it is, discrimination against those that are less fortunate in not being able to travel long distances or can not afford the fares to go to a National.. Why stop people going out and supporting the club of their choice and having a bit of fun, isn't that what Dog Shows should be about, having fun. Not being told when and where we can go. Because that's just what this rule does.
-
So are you saying if a national is held in Melbourne and I wish to travel to Geelong (example only) to an All breeds show I can still get a challenge?? I think NOT. My oath I'm saying it. :D Why should you or I be told where we can show our dogs and not receive challenges. I call it discrimination. If you want to go to a National with your dog, good on you for going and I hope you win BIS, but those that do not wish to go, or can not afford to go, or think it is to far for them to drive, should not be penalized for wanting to go to a show elsewhere and receive a challenge.
-
I am not voting as I believe that the their should be no such rule. Maybe you should put up a spot for do away with the rule altogether.

I have been led to believe that you can not leave a dog in a car overnight. It must go into the kenneling provided. See my above post for kenneling fees. You can have you dog in your car or trailer if suitable. You don't have to use their kennel facilities, I for one don't use them. Of the Tassie regulars that i know use the boat for travel I think I would be hard pressed to find one who does. Oakway why don't you have a chat to people who are regular travellers and see what their experiences have been, you will be quite surprised. :D I have been using the boats or Roll on Roll Off Ferries for 40 years. I can even remember the old Taroona and that used to dock in Launceston.
-
You said it could not be done, now you say it can in a crate. And who would be silly enough to leave a dog lose in the car, or be stupid to leave it on the back of the ute. That is just plain stupid. No I did not :D You can not leave a dog in a car over night. I should have been more explicit and said said loose in a car. Who would be so stupid, the man in the ute in front of me and to the left.
-
You can do it and many have done it. I saw at least 15 people with cars do it when i went over for the Royal, plus trailers with dogs - and that was just the night i went over. Capanash went to Tassie earlier in the year and her Poodle stayed in the van fro the trip. Yes in a crate in a van and yes in your own trailer but not loose in a car. Also not allowed to be left loose or tied in the back of a ute.

How about a nice Greyhound. Beautiful natures and short coats. Great companions. Plenty looking for homes out there.

Just a few and the locals are the majority. Often the few that do come make it a holiday and do a few shows. (To the best of my knowledge).
