  1. A lot of breeders de sex at 12 weeks. As most of these dogs will be pet/companion dogs. Years ago we were always told not to de sex our horses till 2 years now we do them as soon as the Testes drop and we find that there is no ill effect what so ever. I do believe in time we all learn to accept early de sexing as the norm. Also we were always told to de sex the cat after six months and now it is the norm to purchase them around 12 weeks already de sexed.
  2. Plush Puppy Have a good look at there range. http://www.plushpuppy.com.au/home.php?cat=1
  3. In the bath with twin attachments on the taps attached to a spray head.
  4. We are getting a ute soon to make it easier to take our dogs on outing and still have space for camping gear/bikes ect. If we don't get one with a full canvass canopy, I was thinking of getting a canvass cover made for the crate that could have different areas rolled up or down to provide protection from the elements and ventilation, a mattress on the floor and a bucket of water tied into the corner. Does that sound like a safe way for our dogs to travel? I'd like to be able to pop into the shops quickly on the way home sometimes too (atm we have to drive home past the shops then 15 minutes back out to the shop after dropping the dogs off) I'd also have to lock the crate to make sure no one coud let them out. What do you think? I think that would be an excellent idea.
  5. Big dog, please don't get any of us wrong, we don't usually carry dogs on the back of a ute. Good on you for being so enterprising and doing the right thing for your dog/s. A lot of people who transport their dogs a lot and over long distances have dog trailers, all insulated in some way. Often these people when when they get to where they are going, take the dogs and put them into crates/trolleys so they can have the dogs close to where they make their camp. Some people just purchase strong crates for the back of their ute/flat top and when the dogs are out remove them and use those to confine the dogs in at their camp. Being ever mindful of the Queensland summer heat and the distances we travel we always try and keep our dogs in trailers or the car with us, so showing us crates like you are designing no matter how excellent they may be is a bit foreign to some of us. Good luck with your project.
  6. http://www.emigratenz.org/moving-pets-to-n...ealand.htmlHere this link may help you a little. As said before all animals coming into Australian have to do Quarantine with the exception of New Zealand. Under normal circumstances most dogs are Quarantined for 30 days @ $40 per day. So I was told.
  7. No it is not. The breed is American Staffordshire Terrier and the dogs papers will say so.
  8. Absolutely not. Those dogs are not show dogs nor registrable with ANKC.
  9. Depends on what type of crate/cage you are talking about. It usually Aluminium is not strong enough for large dogs. Most are made of metal. You do see lots of different ones on the back of Utes at dog shows. Some flat top Utes have the body of a dog trailer fitted on them.
  10. Just make sure the dog is in your name and you are financial with your states controlling body.
  11. If it was me I would get a good strong crate and train him while I was their with him and then go out for about 5 minutes and come back and do not let the dog out till you have done this a second time. Keep this in and out up for quite awhile till the dog accepts you coming and going. Also lengthen the times you do your in and outs and the amount times you go in and out.
  12. I would suggest that all go and see what an American Staffordshire Terrier looks like in the DOL Profile files.
  13. at first it was because he wanted to see the dog when he was a year old to make sure he was to standard. then he just out right refused to change him after we sent him pictures and got judges to look at him ect not sure on the reason i think he just wanted to control the breed ect. there are several breeders that he told of this arangement but now says we never told him we had intentions of breeding or showing. which is a lie coz we already had 4 other dogs at the time and we had another pup we were interested in as well but he said he would change the dog off LR otherwise we wouldnt have got the pup in the first place. Well, my experience tells me that there are always three sides to every story. But given what you have said here, I'm afraid you must accept at least 75% of the "blame" in this case. Why ANYBODY who already breeds and shows dogs would knowingly accept a dog on LR with those conditions is absolutely beyond me. I'm sorry, but NO puppy is good enough to gamble on in this way. If you can't buy the dog on Main Register to do with what you will, or at the least in a partnership with the terms and conditions clearly laid out IN ADVANCE, then the fact is....you walk away. as i said at the start of the forum. when we accepted this puppy. we unfortunatly didnt know there were breeders out there like the one we encountered. we were always planning to show and breed however we had a business at the time and didnt think it was fair on the dogs to go in when we werent ready to fully comit to it. yes we accept that we were stupid and realise that there were agreements in place to stop this from happening. also we are doing everything possible to fix this. and if worst comes to worst and he doesnt get moved of LR he is still apart of our family and not just breeding stock. so he will still stay with us and be desexed. we are responsible breeders and have much more knowledge now and only wish we had back when this all happend. So i dont beleive your comment was fair at all Kyxen Kennells. Why, if you own registered dogs why would you purchase a dog on the limited register is beyond belief. As I have said previously, the breeder is under no obligation to up grade the dog if the breeder feels it is an inferior specimen of the breed. because we didnt know at the time that LR was a big deal and thought it was just to make sure the pup grew into a nice dog which is understandable. also the dog is not an inferior specimen we have had him looked at by several judges who said he would be an asset to the show ring. if they said he was no good then we wouldn't have a problem not showing him and would be fine leaving him on the LR. and the breeder wouldn't even know if he was inferior because we had taken the dog to see him and he flat at refused to even look at the dog. look i started this topic to get everyones thoughts on the matter. not to be abused by someone that doesn't even know the whole story. You have been given peoples thoughts on the matter and you object to them. We breeders get sick of being breeder bashed all the time.

  15. Yes but what is it........ Is it an undersized Dobe or an over sized German Pinscher
  16. By the way if the owner lives in Qld the dog may be shown continuously in the owners name. Just get them to sign all the entry forms.
  17. About 1 week 10 days at the longest. Speak to the owner and have him transferred now.
  18. Why not do what most of us do. Go and get pet chicken mince and small breed dog food and give more chicken than dry and mix it together. If that doesn't work you could always soak the dry and then mix it through.
  19. Is it just me or does this sounds dodgy as hell? I would never purchase a dog without pedigree papers unless I was adopting from a shelter or rescue group. It seems to happen quite a fair bit where puppies that are sold as pets do not always come with limited reg. papers. Is it all that important? Yes it is. If a breeder is willing to break the rules in one way, then they probably will in others. And no matter what you believe, without papers supplied you can't KNOW the breeder is registered or that the pup is pedigree. May as well pay $50 for a mutt at the pound. It costs about $30 to register a dog (on the main or limit register) and so charging stupid amounts extra for papers is a con. Most likely it's a dodgy breeder who will convince you not to get papers with the high amount because they can't actually supply them. ML, it seems to be quite prevalent where reg. breeders sell pups without limited reg. papers. I am not fussed with that although I am surprised that it is law that they must supply limited reg. papers and yet opt not to do so. I do know for a fact that this breeder is indeed legitimate as he/she sent me photocopies of the pup's parents reg. papers. No problem with mutts, there are some beautiful mutts out there but I really wanted a CKCS. Another thing I have noticed is that pups with full reg. papers are always selling for an extra $100-$200. I have never come across a pup with full reg. papers selling for an extra $30 only. Thats not the case with a lot of breeders. I can honnestly say I don't know one breeder personally who sells their dogs for more because of certain kinds of papers. Further more they shouldn't be charging more for the papers in the first place A friend had enquired about a pup and after much discussion and a fair few questions answered, she decided to go ahead with a pup. She was asked as to whether she wanted a pup solely as a pet or to breed/show. She was told that if she wanted to breed/show she would have to pay an extra $200. I found myself in the very same situation when I was out to get a CKCS. I spoke to quite a few breeders and the same thing applied. If I wanted a CKCS to breed with I would be required to pay between $200-$500 extra for full rego. I spoke to 6 breeders all up. That can be answered quite simply as some breeders charge more for breeding and show stock. If you did not want that option your dog should have come on Limited Registration.
  20. Stitch, If your interested in a good variable speed dog walking machine go to your local Greyhound training track or Race Track. Some times they have for sale notices up over walking machines. They also have 1 dog, 2 dog etc. might be well worth a look and often in Saturday's For Sale columns. Also ring your local Greyhound Control Board to see if they put out news letter as they often have for sales in them.
