My lab boy I lost in Sept to Cancer (RIP darling) was being treated by a Holistic Vet and one of the supplements she prescribed was Tumeric to be added to his food and I had to give him as much as he could tolerate. I used to sprinkle it over his food.

When I brought my lab boy back from NZ to Sydney in Oct 2005 (we relocated back to NZ for 18mths), he was on the same flight as me and I had to pick him up from AQIS which at that time was located at Qantas Bond next to the international terminal on Link Road. I had to go to customs first with necessary paperwork etc. Before I left NZ I was trying to find out where AQIS was located at the Sydney Airport, so I sent an email to [email protected] and my email was forwarded onto the AQIS Assistant Airport Manager who provided me with all the info I needed. Be prepared to spend some time for the necessary processing of documentation and this may take a little while if they are busy. When I arrived my boy was in his crate on the loading bay as I had to walk past it to get into the office and some AQIS staff were already giving him water and attention and stayed with him until I had all the documentation processed . Take a collar and lead so you can let your puppy out to toilet after you pick your pup up and take some poop bags so you can clean up if pup poops I would also have some water handy and a bowl or travel bowl (one that folds up). Enjoy your new puppy :D .

and watch the experienced knowledgeable people all walk away or be driven away People who frequent online forums need to develop tougher hides . In RL we aren't all lovey dovey with one another why expect it to be that way on an online forum . Majority of us are pretty passionate dog lovers and some people have strong views on some things and dont mince words and some others are just pretty thoughtless and tactless or maybe lacking in communication skills to get their point of view across in the way they intended. You cannot put tone around words, so in some cases posts can be misconstrued. You can't please all of the people all of the time and I take the view that you have to take the good with the bad.

This is a PUBLIC forum and as such you will get many diverse opinions and some threads gets heated because people may disagree with OP's views/post or other posts in the thread and some OP's get pissed that people call them into question. This includes dragging up previous threads/posts an OP may have posted which may be at odds with their current thread/post. At the end of the day, if you post a thread asking for advice on a certain situation, you do really need to be prepared for people to post advice that you may not like and yes some people can be blunt or rude. If it upsets you, you can report them as Poodlefan has mentioned previously and I think this forum is moderated fairly well. People need to be able to post replies that may disagree with the OP or another poster without fear that they cannot speak their mind because they disagree with the OP or other posters views. It is totally unrealistic to expect all replies in a thread to be positive replies. You have to learn to shrug it off and focus on what a great place and wealth of information this forum is. If people are ashamed to be members of DOL, then what are they doing still hanging around

Serious ;) are these kennel located in Sydney? Yes, most definitely... and probably much more common than you think! That is very scary :D - surely they must be contravening some boarding kennel regulation :p - if people know about this, are these kennels being dobbed in or anything done to let unsuspecting dog owners know what is happening. If we all think we are using reputable kennels with great premises but are being deceived as these premises are for "show" only :D , then I sure as hell would like to know about it. ETA - apologies to OP for hijacking your thread over this issue, but I am shocked at this revelation :p

Such distressing news and I am truly saddened tonight to read this I am so sorry that you have lost your beautiful girl so quickly I know how devastated you must be feeling right now and my heart goes out to you :hug: You made the gut wrenching courageous decision to end her suffering and free her from any more pain and I know how awful it is to have to make that awful decision when we have spent their whole lives loving and protecting them It is the one final act of love and kindness where we have to put our own feelings aside and do what is right for them, although it is killing us on the inside to have to do that. Hugs to Daisy for her loss also and you are both in my thoughts tonight as you grieve the loss of your beloved Halle . What about chicken? have you cooked up any for her. You can pan fry, grill, roast or boil and if boil, keep the broth and let her drink it, like a soup and add some chicken to it. Were the veges mashed up? If she won't eat the veges, then just give her meat by itself as important for her to eat. If she is eating the biscuits, then mix the meat in with the biscuits. Hope she is doing ok, poor baby

Yes she is truly wonderful and if located closer I would have her as my normal Vet in a heartbeat. If ever any of my dogs need any holistic treatment for whatever reason in the future, she is the one I would take them to, irrespective of distance . I am seriously considering taking my 5mth lab pup to her for his annual vacc and checkup and also desexing when that time arrives if I don't find a suitable new vet that is closer. Your boss sounds wonderful, can you PM me details of your clinic including opening hrs and whether you need to make appts or can just drop in during opening hrs on a first come first serve basis.

Hmmm maybe time to seriously consider using another local vet I am looking at for normal veterinary treatments as have a couple of issues I am not happy with and have really only stuck with my current vet as have been going to them for over 20 yrs now and they are so close to where I live as on the corner of my road and only 5mins away. My dissatisfaction with them really hit new heights last year when my late 10yr old boy was diagnosed with cancer and I got a taste of what is was like to have my boy treated by an extremely supportive and caring vet who is a holistic vet and she used to phone regularly to check how he was going and give advice and support. Didn't get one call from my own vet and no acknowledgement from them when they knew I had lost him . He was treated by them since he was a pup I had actually asked the Holistic Vet to be the one to put him to sleep when the time came as needed it done by someone who obviously cared about my boy :D She also sent me a lovely card and one of those gorgeous My Angel Pet Pins which is a pewter dog with a gold halo and wings and I treasure it dearly. Damn that seems expensive for the neocort,I just checked some receipts from my vet and he charges $7 per 50g tube. Wow that is so so cheap, maybe you got it for cost, where are you located? I'm on the Northside of Brisbane.Just to make sure we're talking about the same stuff,is it ilium neocort,white tube with green writing and a green lid?? Yes that is the one - your price is a huge difference that is why I made mention that maybe you got it at cost - either way you are very lucky

How very sad for both parties, a total mismatch and should never have been allowed to happen, shame on Guide Dog Vics for allowing this to happen . This poor boy should have been rehomed with an active family/couple/person who could meet all the requirements of this young boy and he is missing out on so much, it is so sad ;) . Equally sad is that these poor people have a dog whose needs they cannot meet and have the additional burden of worrying about what will happen to him when they die. I also was under the impression there is a waiting list for failed and retired Guide Dogs as well, so what an earth posssessed Guide Dogs Vic to rehome this youngster with such an elderly couple KismetKat why don't you contact Guide Dogs Vic and ask how such a mismatched rehoming was allowed

I like to ensure I always have a tube of Neocort and Inflamol creams in my house for treatment of any skin conditions/abrasions/infections/hot spots etc and I had to go to vet to replenish my supply of these today, as Tournie's hotspots are currently being treated with the Inflamol which I used the last of this morning, and I had also run out of Neocort which I always like to have a tube of. I thought I would ask what other Dolers pay/charge for these creams at your vets. As these are prescription only in Australia you can't buy them online/over the counter, but wish you could. Just interested to see what the price ranges are I paid $30.00 for the Neocort (50g tube) and $25 for the Inflamol (20g tube).

Hi Brigitte So sorry to hear that your Maggie has been diagnosed with TCC. Whilst I don't know anything about this cancer, I do know personally the shock and devastation that you must be feeling with your girl's diagnosis as I went thru this last year in April when my 9 yearold black lab boy, Fitzy, was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer (Hemangiosarcoma). It truly is an awful and stressful time and being confronted with potentially life/death decisions during a time when you are reeling from receiving the heartbreaking news that your beloved dog has cancer You have received some great advice from Staffyluv who has been fighting this "demon" (cancer) with her dog Ollie, the wonder dog for a number of years now . Unfortunately I lost my beautiful boy in Sep last year :rofl: after a close to 5mth battle with his aggressive cancer including chemo treatment, but the prognosis for his type of cancer from the outset was very grim, but the Chemo brought him some precious time and when his quality of life was being impacted by the chemo, I stopped it . I remember vividly the shock and devastation I felt at receiving the possible news that he could have this cancer and then him having to undergo an emergency splenectomy to remove his spleen and told that I may have to make the decision to PTS if they found cancer in his spleen during the operation or that he could bled out during the operation. It was a truly awful experience, but he survived the operation, no cancer was visible, but I had to wait for the test results which just broke my heart and time stood still that day, as I was confronted with the reality that I may be losing my beautiful boy, the love of my life, in a few weeks/months Having a dog with cancer is an emotional rollercoaster ride and you never really come to terms with it, but you have to be strong to get your dog through it as best as they can and there will be days you will be strong and other days you will just break down. I hope you have a supportive and informative oncologist/vet treating your girl. I had a wonderful oncologist and an extremely supportive Holistic vet treating my boy and they were truly wonderful and very caring in treating my boy, answering my questions and helping me cope with the the most devastating time of my life. Your oncologist or vet if you are not receiving treatment from an oncologist should provide you with information on the cancer, treatment options, what to expect, medications to help with any nausea/diarrhoea whilst on chemo and and importantly, support. I would recommend also that you do some internet research on TCC and dogs with cancer in general as there is a wealth of information on the web, which can sometimes be overwhelming, but you need to sift through it to educate yourself and help your girl. All the best for your girls' chemo treatment and hope things go well for her .

Yes no raw means bones as well. This was the one thing that I found very hard as my beloved Fitzy just LOVED his bones and to not give him any was very difficult as I know how much he enjoyed them, but I took the Oncologist's advice as did want to do anything that could potentially cause any further complications for his system, as it was having to deal with enough as it was with the chemo . I would certainly recommend getting the Artemis Maximal as I could not find any other "grain free", "low carb", "high protein & fat" dryfood in Australia apart from Artemis Maximal and you have probably discovered during your research that carbohydrates "feed the cancer" and grains are a no no. Did they give you any medication to help Halle with vomitting/diarrhoea? Hope she is feeling better soon. I have attached a couple more cancer diet related info sheets for you. Hi halledaisy - when my lab boy was undergoing chemo last year, I had him on a mixture of cooked food and dry food and best dry food I found that was low carb, high protein and fat was the Artemis Maximal Grain Free. I have attached a product info doc on this food that I created when I was doing research last year for my boy. ARTEMIS_MAXIMAL_GRAIN_FREE_DRY_FOOD.doc I have also attached a Homemade Cancer Diet Recipe that the Oncologist who was treating my boy sent me HOMEMADE_CANCER_DIET_RECIPE.doc Prior to getting cancer, my boy was feed about 60-70% raw and 30-40% dry food and I was advised by his Oncologist not to feed raw whilst he was undergoing chemo as she advised that there was a possibility of raw foods containing bugs which would under normal circumstances he could cope with, but not whilst undergoing chemo as his system was compromised enough and didn't want him potentially having to battle anything else on top of that. As it was, he did ok on his first couple of fornightly chemo treatments but then hit the wall on his 3rd treatment and I stopped it after his 4th treatment. He only had one more to go, with a total of 5, but it was knocking him around too much and I told his Oncologist from the outset, that I would stop the chemo when it was affecting his quality of life, which it unfortunately did He was also being treated by a Holistic Vet who was recommended to me by his Oncologist and this Holistic Vet was absolutely wonderful and extremely supportive during an extremely difficult time and she was very careful in prescribing natural therapies/medicines that would not affect his chemo treatment. Best wishes for Halle, I know only how well how stressful it can be :D and I hope your girl responds well to the chemo treatment :thumbsup:t . Is she being treated by an Oncologist or your vet? Later today I will have a look thru other bits and pieces of Cancer food info I found when doing my research last year and attach them for you.

How terrible, those poor poor dogs, what a sickening way to die . I hope he feels the full weight of the law for this awful awful oversight. It was his job to be responsible for those dogs and he let them down in a most terrible way I don't have any sympathy for him as I am so sick of all the excuses under the sun being trundled out to excuse a person's "criminal" behaviour - take responsibility for your actions (or lack thereof) ;) RIP doggies, you deserved so much better

Shocking that they knowingly shipped pups with Parvo The repercussions of this are great and wide on the poor pups, their devastated new families and their properties for years to come and I so hope they get reported So irresponsible it defies belief and obviously shonky operators at best. Beladoza - best wishes for a full recovery for your little girl and the least you should expect is full compensation for the vet bill, not just half , let alone compensation (i.e. full refund) for the stress and angst that they have put you and your family and poor pup thru.
