Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
labsrule replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Yes she will definitely need this to help her with the grieving process With her horses being able to remain on her property and her beloved surviving dogs going to stay with people she knows, will help lift a lot of the anxiety she must be feeling about her surviving dogs. ;) to the people and MDBA helping her during this terrible tragedy and she will definitely need ongoing support as she tries to come to terms with such a huge loss of her beloved dogs :D and her property and possessions :p -

What an awful awful tragedy :D so heartbreaking that she lost 12 of her dogs in such a tragic way :p , she will be absolutely devastated. Jed my heart goes out to you during this terrible terrible time ;) and I hope you are ok. RIP doggies and run free -
Maybe I should have employed this tactic when my 7mth lab pup found (or maybe killed ) a freshly dead LARGE rat :D on our walk yesterday and took off with his prize his first ever failed recall He did however come back after much cajoling (threatening ) and I had to apply pressure to either side of his muzzle to make him release, the still intact (thank god) dead rat Will file this tactic away in the memory banks, hopefully I won't ever have to use it.

A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
labsrule replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
One of my lab boys that I adopted does not like other dogs invading his space so I never take him to a dog park or offleash area where I know that can happen and in my view would be unfair on him and unrealistic to expect no other dogs to come up to him. When I walk him I am always vigilant of other dogs and I will let him offleash in a secluded area when there are no other dogs around, but if any come into view, then I will put him on lead. We have encountered the odd offleash dogs in onlead areas who have been in the process of rushing up to him and I stand between them and him and politely tell their owners that he doesn't like other dogs and to please put their dog on a lead and keep them away from my dog. They do without any fuss and we go on our separate ways. My other two, my 14 year old and 7month year old have no no problems whatsoever with dogs invading their space and quite happily play/socialise with other dogs, obviously my pup more so than my oldest boy I am vigilant with my dogs wherever I take them, and if my dogs are being harrassed by overzealous dogs, then myself and their owners normally step in when required. We haven't encountered any issues in any offlead dog parks/areas/beaches that we have been to with any of my dogs invading another's space or any situations getting out of control with any of the dogs in attendance, but providing my dog doesn't get hurt and was in the wrong, then I would have to put in down to experience and hopefully my dog would learn a lesson and be more cautious about approaching a dog. In all the years I have been frequenting dog parks/offleash areas with my dogs, we have never encountered any issues :D . However, onlead areas, now that is a different story -

Yeah I totally agree I think too many people are far too uptight about their dogs meeting others and expecting every single dog in a dog park/offleash area to be perfectly behaved every single time and that is just a totally unrealistic & unfair expectation. We all have to expect the unexpected as that is life and I don't see the same expectation of perfect behaviour put upon humans as there is upon our dogs. There will always be ratbag dogs and ratbag humans but hey I am not going to curtail my dogs or my own activities in fear of meeting these ratbags -

A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
labsrule replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
Actually my last 3 visits to my local dog park with my 7month old lab pup, the last visit being yesterday have resulted in 3 different dog owners asking me if their dog could play with mine as he looked like a nice friendlyh boy and they were all trying to expand the socialisation of their dogs. The dogs were a standard poodle, a staffy cross and a border collie and during these play sessions, each owner said it was so lovely to see their dog so happy playing with such a lovely and friendly dog who didn't jump all over them, harrass them or dominate them which they were worried about with coming to a dog park as each of these dogs had had limited socialisation. They each thanked me profusely before we left and complimented my boy on his lovely manners and behaviour. When this happened again yesterday for the 3rd time in a row, I thought maybe I should hire my boy out as a "Socialising Partner" for dogs with limited socialisation. -

You know what I never undertand the point of these types of thread anyway as they ALWAYS end up in a b*tch fest about certain breeds, certain dog sizes, irresponsible owners and both sides of the fence arguing over the pros and cons of offlead areas/dog parks and the OP is either castigated or empathised and sympathised with and quite frankly nothing is ever achieved. The same old same old is covered time and time again -

Well true to their pattern of delivering within a day or two of when the dispatch email is sent, I received my overdue order today I won't however be placing any further orders with them, as not only was this last order turnaround time atrocious, but I won't deal with companies that list disconnected contact telephone nos and completely ignore emails from their customers -

Warning: A Rant There have been so many posts on annoying out of control yappy aggressive little dogs. I thought I'd offer "The little dog POV ..." Playful bouncy young labs are among the most dangerous dogs for my old chi cross. He has luxating patellas and a bad back. One playful knock would mean not only pain but quite likely the need for surgery. Even when I keep him on lead and tell the owners of these dogs that he does not like labs or that he may get hurt, they insist their dogs are friendly. When I pick him up to keep him out of their way, they lecture me on how bad it is to pick up small dogs--it makes them aggressive, etc, etc. However, when my dog is in obedience classes with well trained labs in a controlled situation he shows no aggression at all towards them. He'll sit next to a lab in long stays. He'll act as 'a post' and allow the labs to weave around him. We rarely go to off lead areas but even owners with onlead dogs want to force my dog to socialise with their dogs or want to "cure" my dog of his discomfort with bouncy young dogs by forcing him to interact. It drives me nuts. Di I think by naming labs as a "dangerous" dog for your old boy is being a bit unfair, ALL of the large breed dogs would be a danger for him then such as ridgebacks, great danes, boxers, they are all large and high energy. The only reason that labs get picked on is that there are so many of them around. Personally if i had an old dog I would never take them to an off lead park because accidents do happen , a dog could be running for his own ball and step on your oldie by mistake. Please read my post. 1.I clearly stated that labs are "among the most dangerous dogs". The reason labs get "picked on" by me is that their owners are the most likely to say "don't worry, he's friendly" ... 2. I said that this also occurs when my dog is onlead and not at off lead parks. Di Your statement "among the most dangerous dogs" is so ridiculous it is laughable and yes 9 times out of 10 the lab is friendly - pity you can't take a leaf out of the lab's book Labs are so dangerous that they are the most popular breed in Australia, US, UK etc and used as guide dogs, sniffer dogs, therapy dogs etc etc . The fact that our beloved breed is so renowned for its awesome temperament, is so intelligent, so good looking and has so much visibility thru its role as a "service dog" engenders a lot of jealousy in the dog world -

labsrule replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
labsrule - the recent posts were responding to a poster (a lab owner) saying that ALL labs were friendly and NONE were EVER aggressive. People were pointing out that this wasn't true and SOME labs are aggressive - like SOME dogs are in all breeds. When I saw a lab owner had posted I thought "hoorah, a lab owner is going to set this person straight and say that they have to socialise their lab etc, just like you need to do with every other dog". Petty it wasn't so. Why is pointing out the obvious seen as lab bashing???????? Yes this poster's comments were naive, but it didn't take long before the lab bashers started coming in an regaling their stories of dogs being attacked by Labs. I could have countered that with my own story about one of my labs being attacked by a vicious popular breed also and the countless times my dogs have been harrassed by yapping, snapping little bastards, but I didn't Neither did a lot of lab owners on this forum who have had their labs attacked, jumped on, confronted and harrassed by other breeds Of course it it always the poor Labs that come in for so much criticism so often, it is rather tiring -

A Small Tiff In The Off-leash Park
labsrule replied to mrs tornsocks's topic in General Dog Discussion
There are a million and one threads here about people going to off-leash parks and other dogs running up into their dogs faces while the owner says "Oh but he's friendly". Those threads never end well, regardless of the dog's intentions. I'm interested in this, and taking it ever so slightly off thread, does anyone here believe there is no way in the world their dog would not attack (ie provoke an attack) another dog ? I am pretty sure most of us feel like we know our dogs well enough to say that it would simply never happen to us. Put it this way, there aren't too many threads on DOL of dog owners who come in to tell stories of their dog ripping apart another. That said, we'd kinda like to assume that people who let their aggressive dogs off lead with awful outcomes, never thought their dog would attack either. So, given our dogs are animals, do you feel that you could 100% guarantee your dog would never provoke an attack on another in 'everyday' circumstances (ie no injury, bitch on heat, bitch defending pups, whatever) ? Or perhaps it's not that simple. With Fitzy my beloved lab boy I lost last year, I would have to say yes absolutely 100%. Never ever had any issues with him with other dogs, kids or humans. In fact I got told by a few dog owners during his lifetime that we encountered on our walks, parks, beaches etc that he was either the only dog or one of a very select few that their dogs would allow anywhere near them. He was an extremely friendly, outgoing and very happy dog and loved every dog and human he met and they reciprocated He has been the best natured dog I have owned and I think my current pup, Tana is following in his footsteps . As for my current boys, Thomas my 14 yr old who I adopted 4 yrs ago, absolutely 100% as well as he is the most placid, gentle, friendly dog you could ever meet and wouldn't harm a fly and would never ever be provoked. Tournie my soon to be 12 yr old who I adotped 2 yrs ago, on the other hand is not very tolerant of other dogs and there is no way I would take him to an offleash dog park and I only let him offlead during his walks when there are no other dogs around. He is extremely protective of me and resource guards me, so I don't put him in stressful situations around other dogs and we keep our distance from them during walks. My pup Tana is a typical Lab pup, but he is not over the top with other dogs and I take him to a dog park once or twice a week and the other dogs, both large and small actually rush him and jump all over him. I am pretty tolerant with other dogs with him, but I do keep a watchful eye and whenever I see he is being harrassed by an overzealous dog then I will step in and call him over and so does the owner of any dog that may be harrassing him. My pup has extremely good recall for such a youngster, so he reliably comes to me everytime I call him, sometimes with other dogs in tow :D All the other dog owners at this park also keep a watchful eye on their dogs as well . As he is only a pup I can't yet guarantee him 100%, but he is such a typical friendly, extremely good natured pup with fantastic bite inhibition (i.e. has never nipped at all throughout his puppyhood), and not over the top with other dogs, I seriously doubt he would provoke an attack. I am actually off in a few mins to take him to this park -

Normally when I get the dispatch advice from this company I have received the goods within a couple of days of this notification, so hopefully the same will apply. I think they can probably keep their prices low as they don't have any overheads for customers service or phones, both of which are non existent in their organisation -

Well shiver me timbers I just received a dispatch email for my well overdue order Hopefully I receive this order though as it contains an item that I could not find anywhere else and was going to order more if I like the product. Maybe they were manufacturing this product, hence the delay :p Will have to contact my bank if I do receive it, which I think is highly probable, given I have now received the dispatch advice. Will keep you posted. -
Would You Eat Food Offered To You By A Dog?
labsrule replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am quite amazed at the number of people who would not accept food in a covered basket/container from a dog. I think a well looked after dog is probably a lot cleaner than a lot of humans. :p Lots of humans serving food don't wash their hands after going to the loo, but you would accept food from these people, particularly the males who actually have to touch their private parts :p Whilst I draw the line at dogs licking human crockery/utensils and being allowed to eat off human plates etc, I have no qualms whatsoever about having dogs around food. My boys insist on helping me get their food from my refrigerator and cupboards. Dog hair gets into the most ridiculous places Bub photos of your doggie waiter carryng the basket are a must when the special event happens -

Yes you will receive an order receipt confirmation when you place your order. You should then receive a dispatch email the day your goods are dispatched and it normally arrives anywhere from same day as order confirmation or up to 48 hrs after your order confirmation. If you receive the dispatch email, then you you will probably get your goods. I never received the dispatch email for my last order, only the order confirmation email. However, for my previous orders I placed with this company, I received both confirmation and dispatch emails and received my goods. Hopefully you will receive the dispatch email and your goods. Let us know how you go. -

I have been shopping online for years using AUS and overseas websites for both dog related and non dog related products and have never ever had any issues with being ripped off or orders stuffed up, until this last order and I buy a hell of a lot of stuff online . I have an alternative supplier for the dryfood range which I will revert back to now that they have dropped their pricing on that range. Pet Deli don't stock the range I buy Charleswentworth -
Anyone Had Any Bad Experiences With This Company

Hi Labsrule, I couldn't help myself and Googled the people you were talking about as I am interested in buying dog stuff...this is a site that features that Company... http://www.scamwarners.com/forum/viewtopic...?f=6&t=4422 You are probably aware of this site though. I hope you will get your credit eventually. Tks Boronia and no I wasn't aware of that scamwarners website and I had no reason to suspect they were scammers as have had my previous orders delivered without any issues . Interestingly, the posts on the scamwarners website relating to this company are in 2009. Sounds like they may have got their act together and then slipped back to their scamming ways and/or probably haven't paid their suppliers who probably won't deal with them anymore :D Based on this info, I would recommend dolers don't place any orders with this website. -
I have been ordering dry food and other products from this website as their pricing was very good and up until my last order placed on 19/4/10 they had a pretty good order turnaround of 2-3 days depending on what I ordered. However, that all changed with my last order placed on 19/4/10 when I didn't receive any despatch advice, so I tried calling on their contact phone no. which was constantly engaged. I then sent an email enquiring as to the whereabouts of my order and received no reply and I sent another two emails and once again no reply. Another doler advised me they had a similar experience but got eventually got their order a couple of weeks later and they advised the contact phone no. had been disconnected. I eventually cancelled my order and requested a credit be processed against my credit card and once again, no answer/acknowledgement of my email and their listed contact phone number has definitely been disconnected. I have now contacted my bank to process a Dispute Claim to be actioned to recover the credit. I would advise caution against placing order with this company and would be interested to hear from anyone else who has experienced similar problems. It is a real concern that they are still listing a contact phone no. that is disconnected and of course not answering any emails.

Would You Eat Food Offered To You By A Dog?

Cute trick, but yeah as others have mentioned I would keep the food covered. As smart as our Labs are, one would be truly tempting fate if they tried to train a Lab to do this trick -
jamieson I do hope you stick around and keep us informed how Pearl is doing and of course how the pups are going when the birth happens. :D This forum is full of very passionate dog lovers, myself included who are anti BYB's and puppy farmers who breed and cross breed our beloved breeds in appalling conditions with scant regard to any of the dogs/pups health and welfare all in the name of profit . Many here are involved in Rescue so are confronted daily with dogs in atrocious conditions, heartbreaking stories of so many dogs being abandoned/dumped and the neverending quest to rehablitate and rehome these poor unfortunate dogs. Our beloved breed, the Labrador, being the most popular breed is bred and crossbred unmercilessly by puppyfarmers and BYB'S all for profit and with no or little regard to mum, dad or pups health and welfare. These poor unfortunate pups who are not given the best start in life, then find themselves in unsuitable homes as the people that bred them do not care what type of home they go to as screening potential puppy buyers is not the priority, the exchanging of the money is Despite the flak and criticism you have come under, there has also been some great advice, so I do hope you take it all on board in a constructive manner and learn from it and understand why people feel the way that they do. If you are considering breeding again, I really hope you do something about becoming a registered breeder and find an experienced Lab breeder as a mentor and of course have mum & dad given all the relevant health tests to ensure any future lab pups are given the best chance in life health wise. We all care about what happens to Pearl and her babies and wish her all the best for the whelping and hope she produces healthy lab puppies who will all find wonderful loving homes. Please keep us updated
