  1. I work in a vet hospial and we sell it, I would think any vet or city farmers/better pets and gardens type place. It is available over the counter, no need for a consult at the vets.
  2. Thers a product called aquadent that you add to the drinking water, chlorhexadine based from memory. A lady at work tried it with her cav that was about to have surgery for lip fold dermatitis and it helped so much the cav didnt end up having surgery.
  3. I was a spectator there tonight and got to meet and pat Wazzatxolo's dogs. They were exquisite(sp).
  4. After Prince has his operation just make sure he is kept as quiet as possible for 10-14 days. Barking a lot in this time frame could lead to more scar tissue forming and the operation not being as sucsessful. Speak with your vet but some even reccommend sedating the dogs slightly to help keep them from barking.
  5. I had a beautiful black lab that I did show a couple of times, some not so nice showies asked if she was crossed with a greyhound! The pointer people loved her and said things like "look a lab that looks like it can do what it was bred too do" I also had pet lab people say "So thats what a lab looks like before they get fat" , it was like a forgone conclusion that being a lab she would get fat ( left to her own devices she would have :-) ).
  6. I was walking our two male dogs ( amstaff and a ccr), they wear gentle leaders and walk either side of me as the dont like each other (yet). Walking nicely at my side and I hear oh oh, around the corner comes an old overweight goldie, no lead and its two owners on push bikes.!! I move to one side of the path and make my boys sit, the path is right next to a busy road. Owner shouts are yours friendly, me they dont like each other, is your dog under effective control??. We avoided a problem, my boys didnt react to the goldie or each other but it could have been very different.
  7. My oh got BOB and then BIG with his amstaff, Riff. This is their first BIG.
  8. Well done Centitout. It must be great to be out there with dogs/puppies that you have bred yourself.
  9. My oh is going with his amstaff Riff and one of our skinkids.
  10. No vets i know of do the titre test. The vets draw the blood and send it to an outside laboratory, usually Vetpath in Ascot, WA. You would normally pay your vet fot the test, then Vetpath bills the vet.
  11. Is the vet sure its a lymph node is it possible its a salivary gland? Talk with your and ask about having a fine needle biopsy done. This is where they stuck a needle into the middle of the lump, suck out some cells, stain them and look at them under a microscope. Sometimes the slides with the cells on are sent to an outside lab to be checked.
  12. Well done and thank you to the police officer for doing his best. Adult kangaroos are not able to be treated for broken legs, they simply cant be handled and kept safely or fairly. Even as a qualified vet nurse used to dealing with wildlife I believe the best thing to do was shoot this kangaroo. As someone mentioned most, if not all adults like this die of capture myopathy anyway. Also what about the safety of people near by if the kangaroo was not shot, was Hugh Wirth going to step in and get a vein on an injure, wild animal? Just getting close enough to get a vein would be dangerous even for an experienced vet, much less risk to people and stress to the animal to be shot.
  13. Hugs to you and your family at this sad time. Its a testiment to your love and care that Buddy reached to ripe old age of 16yrs.
  14. Maybe you could get your regular vet to run a geriatric profile blood test. It ight not help with the seizure but could help rule in / rule out other problems with other organ systems.
  15. I have worked at different vets, I've been a vet nurse for over 20yrs (qualified in 1988). Over this time I have seen a few cats and bitches present with signs of being in season after being sterilized, the time varies but usually 12mth after op. In all cases some ovarian tissue was left behind, it only needs to be a very, very small amount and then it grows. As it gets bigger it can start to produce enough hormones to bring on signs of heat/seasons. The animals have been re operated on and had the tissue removed, once done the signs of heat/seasons stopped. The ovarian tissue was found at the end of the ovarian stumps not just anywhere in the abdomen.
  16. My CCR has had both hips removed ( done at different times ) and she has had tramadol/tramal as pain relief. I found it worked really well. The clinic I work at also used fentanyl patches.
  17. My family and I all have indoor cats. My dad had a problem with the cats in his street and his flower beds, he now swears by the fertilizer dynamic lifter spread on the flower beds. This is on the front flower beds where his dogs have no acsess. The other thing you could do is set a cat trap (humane one ), trap the cat and then give it a good hosing with water . Hopefully it will not return to your property.
  18. I get asked ll the time if my curly coated retriever is a labradoodle. When I say shes a ccr they look like I've made that breed up, so I follow on with she's an Australian Champion and give a brief history on the breed. I love it when someone gets her breed right.
  19. A dog trainer I know swears by static strips ( black things that hang down and touch the road when the car stops). Her dog has stopped being sick since she put them on her car. now when the dog does get sick she knows its time to replace the static strips.

  21. What rappie says is good advice, could you not use half of a 5mg tablet twice daily, would this possibly be more cost effective
  22. Try warming up the pups food so that he can smell it a bit easier through his snotty nose.
  23. Hi there, I'm a vet nurse that has dealt with bulldogs through my work and yes none seem to have great hips. They dont generally seem to have problems though. Perhaps you could try walking your pup in water that is say chest deep instead of swimming properly.
  24. A friend of mine with a border collie found that those static strips you attatch to the car stop her dog getting car sick. Now when the dog is car sick she replaces the static strip and the dog is fine again.
